I really feel like a lot of Revolution Radio sounds closer to the vibe of the Trilogy than it does to any other Green Day record. At least 75% of the Trilogy to me felt like Green Day embracing power pop, 50s and 60s pop, and garage rock n roll to the max, more so than any other record of theirs. Of course Green Day throws their own sort of spin on those styles, and of course Green Day has dabbled in those sounds in the past, but the Trilogy to me felt like the first time they whole heartedly embraced those styles of pop. IMO, Somewhere Now, Forever Now, Bouncing Off The Walls, Too Dumb To Die, Young Blood, all sound like 70s/80s power pop. Outlaws to me sounds like 50s/60s pop. But then I hear everyone comparing Rev Rad to AI and 21CB. I suppose everyone hears things differently, which isn't a bad thing. But IMO, Rev Rad is like a sibling to the Trilogy. Which isn't a bad thing to me at all. What do you guys think about all this? This might been talked about a shit load already, in which case, apologies...3 points

I am about to begin a GD hiatus starting from tonight. I've listened to them a lot recently and I feel that I need to stop now before I become sick of listening to them. I can see from my iTunes account that I've listened to Still Breathing 40 times on my IPod, and I've listened to it countless times through the music video and live videos! After tonight, the next time I hear a GD song will be a live performance of KYE two weeks on Sunday! If GD bring out a music video or live video I guess I'll have to watch it in silent mode. I really don't know how I will do this hiatus as I listen to GD almost every day but I'm determined to do this.2 points

I agree. I think it's more the politics (RR, TT, SG etc) and epic songs (Forever Now) that reminds them more of AI and 21CB, although the trilogy had its share of epic/political songs, mainly on Tré (99 Revolutions, DRB, Brutal Love etc). I think RevRad is a clear continuation of the trilogy although it could have easily been considered the successor of 21CB as well. The trilogy was more experimenting with the sound that would eventually make it onto RevRad2 points

Its something like...they were at this hotel and watched the oakland raiders game (playoff?) ( and they were excited and emotional about it). Wives were seen in the city (shopping) while they practiced. Also it mentions they made no particular requests (not for food nor for stage items) other than asking about what was there to visit.they seemed interested in truffle and barolo (wine) . Last part is about fans.also mentions they had 8 trucks versus the 33 of madonna, and they have a cook travelling with them. Nice article. thank for sharing.2 points

If so, they could make a compilation of the 12 videos of RevRad called Revolution Video (RevVid) and release it. Why not?2 points

This is hilarious, but now that you mention it... Perhaps that's why I internally freak out every time someone changes their avatar, it's like they're doing plastic surgery. Oh god. I'm laughing out loud.2 points

What made me very happy and a bit teary at the same time at the GD show yesterday was the fact that there were so many different people: young kids of maybe 12 years, students, families, old people, even old people in their wheelchairs, black, white, brown, whatever: And they all came together to celebrate this great band. It's just what Billie also said on stage, that this is how life is supposed to be, that we should be togehter and celebrate life no matter what kind of shit is happening in the world. In the rows behind me was a mother (maybe about 40 years) with her small son and they were rocking the fuck out of that place. Some rows behind them were two older women, they looked like secretaries with perfectly dressed hair and perfect make-up, but wore Dookie-shirts I could just cry because it makes me so happy: If anyone asks me ever again if Green Day is still relevant or if anyone cares about them anymore, I will proudly say: A band that manages to get together all those people and unite them like a big family of 12,0000 people - yes, a band like this is still fucking relevant.2 points

Today I went to the Women's March that happened in my city and one guy yelled "Don't wanna be an american idiot!" once but he didn't repeat it. I got a kick out of that. it was a fun event!1 point

The idea of going on a Green Day fast seems interesting. I would do it, but come to think of it I haven't actually listened to any music for a long time. I kind of just always have songs in my head so it kind of feels like listening to it.1 point

Totally agree with you! I think it has elements of AI and 21st CB as well but that's mostly in the lyrics/themes and the epic quality some of the songs have. As far as the overall sound (and also some elements of the lyrics - both have a snappy one liner thing going on) it's very similar to the trilogy. I agree about it being like a sibling to it, you have the wild midlife crisis and then the sober aftermath thinking more clearly and looking out to wider issues, all in a natural progression in the same musical direction. I enjoy listening to the trilogy and then Rev Rad as a follow up.1 point

So I haven't seen anyone actually review the coffee yet on here? So I just had a cup and wanna share my thoughts on the thread so some people know what they're getting into. First of all, as many have said in the thread so far, Amazon is only selling the whole beans at this time, so before you order, you'll have to make sure that either A. you have a good quality coffee grinder at home, or B. there's a grocery store or Kitchen Kapers in your area that has a grinder you can use in the store or purchase. From personal experience, I can tell you that it'll be so much easier if you can get your hands on a bigger grinder; the grinder I have at home can only do maybe an ounce at a time, so it took me upwards to half an hour to grind the whole 12-oz. bag. Once you have it ground, you're ready to brew. The directions on the bag say 3-4 tablespoons for every 10 ounces of water, but you can use more if you want the flavor to be a bit stronger. I did 4 tablespoons for 10 ounces and it came out as it should. Now, on to the taste: I got the Atomic Garden blend from Amazon because the Gardenista blend at CostCo's website cost too much for me, the Andean is only available in a few restaurants/cafés in Cali, and the single-serve Fourth Wave blend isn't available yet, so the Atomic Garden was the best way for me to go. And after trying it, I gotta say: it was extremely good! Probably the best I've ever had, but then again, the only coffee I've ever really experienced is Melitta (my mom never drank anything else, and my dad still only drinks it), Starbucks, and Dunkin Donuts. It has an impressive bite, but overall it's a very full flavor that went down really smooth. All of which I guess you would have to expect from a medium-dark roast, y'know, smooth but with a dark bite, but whatever. I did have it with cream and sugar, which I don't know if that's sacrilegious or not among coffee nuts, but I didn't put much in so I still got a good sense of the coffee's flavor. I definitely recommend it! I don't normally pay attention to caffeine content, so I'm not sure exactly how strong it is. Actually, come to think of it, it's not even listed on the bag or anywhere on the company website, but I imagine it's just enough to wake you up and get you feeling nice and relaxed in the morning. If you're reading this trying to decide whether or not to get it, I say go for it. It's a bit more expensive than regular brand-name coffee, and grinding the whole beans takes a bit of time and effort, but trust me, it's definitely worth it for a good cup o' Joe to start your morning! Oh, and one last tip: my dad told me that once you're done using it for the time being, seal the rest inside the bag nice and tight and store the bag in the freezer. This keeps the flavor nice and fresh each time you pull it out to use.1 point

Yeah I did! Can't remember it exactly but it was pretty simple, I'm thinking ravioli, tomatoes, pine nuts, garlic and herbs were involved. I prefer my own tomatoey pasta recipe tbh1 point

I played Temple Run for the first time in ages yesterday and had Misery playing in the background. I have no idea why, but I thought that the sound of screeching apes fit right in with the song Revolution Video aka RevVid does have a nice ring to it! Kind of like International Superhits and International Supervideos1 point

They've already done 7 lyric videos from Rev Rad so they might as well do the lyric videos for the remaining songs to complete the album. I really want to see a Forever Now lyric video.1 point

This be the feel good thread today Also, something I realized today, I literally - for god knows what reason - expect everyone on GDC to look exactly like their avatars. Which is kind of funny imagining a couple dozen different versions of Billie in a room together. Also explains why Seagull always freaked me out a bit1 point

In my Irish class today, we were discussing our favourite hobbies. After I said mine was music, my teacher asked me who my favourite band is, and when I said Green Day, a tiny smile crept onto her face1 point

Top 5 Best Pop Punk Bands GREEN DAY– Best Pop Punk Bands Continuing where the Ramones left off, and adding their own flair, Green Day has clicked with a younger audience. Twenty years later, Green Day have become more commercial. Generally recognized and popular, but still rocked the establishment even more fiercely than before. Green Day remains leaders of this musical genre. From Dookie to today, everything is great! https://jambothompson.staging.wpengine.com/best-pop-punk-bands/1 point

Ok, I am 100% convinced that someone on that worked on ER (the show) was a serious Green Day fan because after the episodes with Good Riddance and At The Library (the most unexpected of song choices), I have now run into an episode with Give Me Novacaine from 2005. And the hilarious part is that it's a sex scene1 point

I think right now they really try to remove those 4 years of their lives.... I would love to hear some trilogy songs, too, but at the same time I understand them. The great thing about GD live shows is that you can feel that the guys enjoy the songs they play. And if they just can't enjoy trilogy songs right now because they remind them of bad times or because they just don't feel right, it's better not to play them at all. I hope (and think!) that there will be the day when they make peace with the trilogy. Like Tré once said, time will be kind to those records... We should give them some time.1 point
