I literally spent the entire morning watching live videos of Green Day performing "Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?". It's such a great song, one of my favourites off Kerplunk along with 80 and Christie Road!5 points

Just found out that Longview is "I locked the door to my own cell" instead of "I locked the door to my hotel."4 points

Why would that be a better lyric? I'm not saying "Waste away tonight" is a great lyric but at least it rhymes more with the "Far away" bit. And I don't think "this amazing night" makes any sense in that song.2 points

Not sure if anyone has posted this but Green Day will be in the Rock Sound 2017 calendar (July 2017). You can order it here: https://shop.rocksound.tv/collections/in-stock-issues/products/rock-sound-issue-221-pre-order-with-a-free-2017-calendar?utm_source=Rock+Sound&utm_campaign=c19f644415-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_12_02&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b32ce54f40-c19f644415-110128365&mc_cid=c19f644415&mc_eid=a65986559c2 points

Getting back on topic........ Tonight I was at a bar with some friends after work. There was a radio station with sports talk, it must have been like Sirius or something. Anyway, they took a commercial break and when it came back on "We Are the Waiting" was playing in the background. I whipped my head around to look at where it was coming from but then it was over. It only played for a few seconds. I though that was pretty cool to hear and a unique song choice since it's not really a well known song.2 points

Oh Love is one that I heard wrong when we started hearing crummy leaks of it. I heard "this amazing night" instead of "waste away tonight". Like in most cases, I think my lyric is better. I was so pissed when I saw the official lyrics. Maybe some of the earliest recordings were what I heard, maybe not. Don't know. Also, here's one I feel guilty about. "Scattered" is one of my all time favorite songs, but I can't understand any of the second verse: Loose ends tied in knots leaving a lump down in my throat Gagging on a souvenir Lodged to fill another year Drag it on and on until my skin is ripped to shreds Leaving my self wide open Living out a sacrifice but back to RevRad: "I'm high on cellular waves" sounds like "On my own cellular waves". and it's "pillows" not "pillow" in "Somewhere Now". What the hell does Green Day have against the letter S? TELL ME PLEAE! and "spirit's place to roam" is shown in infinite varieties everywhere I look.1 point

I think it's "Don't want to think about the old". So he's basically saying he doesn't want to think about the future or the past1 point
-
In Shoplifter, where it goes "But you'll be caught stealing", I always thought he sang something among the lines of "But Jimmy's caught stealing", as a reference to St Jimmy or something.1 point

Good picture they used! Which is more than can be said for most of the all-GD calendars I've seen (usually a load of random not great live photos)1 point

We use to do self made Green Day calendar months right here on GDC. Was quite awesome.1 point
-
Thanks a lot. It's REALLY cool. The instrumental part is just great. Too bad I don't like so much the voice of the singer... But who cares, I loved it.1 point
-
My guess is when he heard it, it had to have been a fan working there that put it on. So the next question would be, why didn't you hear anything else from Awesome As F**k? Would be weird for them to just put on one song, and also, that specific one. I personally would want to find them and be like wow, good song choice.1 point

Yeah, that's what we do too and on top of this the teacher is a royal dick. Literally the only reason why he hasn't been fired yet is that he's an union leader.1 point

not any news but Billie Joe gets mentioned in this hilarious article (sort of) http://thehardtimes.net/2015/12/07/roadie-swaps-out-of-tune-tim-armstrong-for-fresh-tim-armstrong-mid-song/1 point

LOL I love people jumping in to defend Insomniac and not AI I totally agree, my least favourite Green Day album is still better than any other album not by Green Day1 point
-
I think this is where people who love Insomniac get caught up. I'm not saying I hate any Green Day record, or actually any record I can even think of by anyone. Not for me =/= hate, you guys. The beauty of music is that there's something for everyone, and that seems especially true of Green Day because I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have to look too hard to find a song that would appeal to your grandparents while Insomniac is there for those of you who are into harder/punk music. I only listen to Insomniac when I'm doing a discography listen over a few days. If I hated it, I would entirely skip the whole thing.1 point

people who don't like Insomniac are just wrong sad people (i still love y'all tho)1 point

I know a girl who has the exact same name as me. First AND last name. Same spelling.1 point

I have to run through Insomniac at least once a week! The first three albums too, even if I am gearing up for another bands show. Could never live without them and would have to say Insomniac is the one that hit's hardest every time. Wish to hell it would get a minimum of 4 songs in every set!1 point
-
I've said this before and I'll say it again, Insomniac is one of the greatest punk albums of all time. Easily stands alongside Give 'Em Enough Rope.1 point

A radio station here played Revolution Radio a few weeks ago. I was in the car and my dad was talking about something. I just interrupted him screaming "turn up the radio, turn up the radio". They rarely play Green Day here.1 point

It means nothing special in my opinion. Just "stop when the red lights flash", literally. But when I listen to the song I remember crashing my car on Need For Speed (it was on the soundtrack).1 point
-
I have to disagree with you. First, stop when the red lights flash is not a line in That's All Right. I don't believe it is a metaphor for Billie going off the deep end, but a sign that he needs to stop before he gets there. Here emergency vehicles, such as police, fire trucks, ambulances are equipped with flashing red lights. Also, a standard traffic signal is if the red traffic signal is flashing, it means to come to a complete stop.1 point
-
I always interpreted "stop when the red lights flash" as referring to sex and temptation in the context of the albums, since Oh Love is about sexual tension and he tells the girl/himself "don't stop when the red lights flash" (ignore the warning signs, give in to temptation). Then he says it as more of a phrase by the time things have escalated to "I'll make you surrender". The "red lights" = forbidden contact, so them "flashing" is a warning. It reflects the whole "forbidden love" theme. I've never thought it's directly referring to his issues, but I guess we'll never know for sure since I doubt he'll talk about these songs now.1 point

coincidentally i'm wearing this one right now they were at primark a long while ago... or just very very similar ones1 point

That set where they played 43 songs is crazy! Only song that isn't there is Welcome To Paradise, other than that they hit so many deep cuts in that set. Be quite lucky to attend that one.1 point

Hyde Park will be my 7th Green Day show which is insane to me! I'm only doing one show with two friends (who aren't superfans but we're friends from another fandom and they've let me drag them to the musical already so they knew it was coming ) but hoping to maybe see some GDCers at the other shows1 point
-
I always thought the red light thing is a very personal metaphor and some kind of central theme of the trilogy. It could be about Billie's condition at that time, like he already realized that his situation got more and more out of control and he knew that he should stop (he saw the red lights flash), but he couldn't stop, he wasn't able to change anything yet. But maybe I'm reading way too much into this and it's really only about sex Thinking about the song Stop When the Red Lights Flash, I just remembered that it is GREAT live! I don't like it too much on the album, but it rocks like hell on stage. I hope they'll play it again some day in the future.1 point
-
Yeah, aren't those lights orange here? Doesn't have quite the same ring to it. Too many syllables1 point
-
The first time I did this was agonising enough, and that was before I had let RevRad sink into my bones. I admire the ability some of you have to churn these out so fast Will have a ponder and try to construct a new setlist1 point
-
For years I heard "the world stoned me so fuuck youu!!" in the Grouch. Revolution Radio the first line is Scream, second one is "sing".1 point
-
He doesn't say the word because he doesn't want to think about it and convinces himself it doesn't matter anyway. So the listener has to guess what the word might be/it can be something else for anyone and it's open to interpretation. Or maybe he couldn't come up with a rhyme.1 point

Back when Uno came out, I showed one of my friends the entire album. We got to sweet 16 and she looked at me with confusion and a little concern. When I asked her what was wrong, she said to me 'did he just say "sweet sex thing?" and now I can't (or don't want to) hear it any other way because of how much it made me laugh1 point
-
Its hard to hear it - it doesnt help either with the lyric video - there is a lag with "War"1 point
-
ah, the more you know i was watching it on facebook because last time i checked the YT video was BLOCKED in Germany fucking GEMA1 point

The video is wrong? What's the POINT of a lyric video when the lyrics are WRONG1 point

Well, since it's a new thread, I guess I'll post this again. Does anyone have a bigger version of this adorable Billie pic? It's so cute and I wish it was larger!1 point
