My fiance does not agree with my assessment of Youngblood You're not crazy!! Even though I've been lucky enough to see them a lot of times before I'm still super happy and overwhelmed that I get to see them multiple times again. Let alone when I think that I'm going to see them at one of the venues I first saw them in 2009, I go all fuzzy inside and get emotional. Other than my mum and my partner no one in my life gets it either, but we're just too cool for them4 points

Anyways, I MUST like the Trilogy. It's a part of my life (my middle school). If I had never listened to Stray Heart on MTV that 22 of December 2012 (that's why my name is End Of The World, I discovered GD the day after the predicted end of the world, December 21st 2012) now I wouldn't know anything about GD. I grew up with that albums and I learned to play the bass with that songs...3 points

I agree with almost everything that you wrote, but specially with this part. I also like very much the mixing of the trilogy, that many people bash. I find it very clear, you can hear everything, all the instruments, and it's very powerfull to me. The more I see people criticise the trilogy, more i get the feeling that people got bothered by the sexual content of some songs, the whole rehab thing, and the consequent lack commercial sucess and just decided to turn their back to the albuns. There's people that barely listened to the trilogy and criticise it. Sometimes it may be tough for someone to ignore the outside context of the era and pay atention only to the music, but I think that any green day fan that give it a shot with a open heart, can be positively surprised. I know I probably one of the few to say that, but I like almost all the songs on the albuns. I don't think the trilogy is Green Day's best work, but I also don't find it to be their worst, and I think that it's sooo underestimated.3 points

That's exactly how I see the Trilogy. They wrote AI, world loves it. They tried to top it with 21CB, didn't work out as well. I feel like they just said "fuck it" and started having fun with writing again rather than trying to outdo what they did before. Does that mean they needed to release all three albums worth of songs? Nah, they definitely could have cut a few out and it would have been better, but overall I like the Trilogy. It produced a shit ton of new favorites for me. But I still haven't listened to RevRad though lol.3 points

I also remember that (only I was 19). It was the first new video to be coming out since I'd got into Green Day so I was really looking forward to it. The disappointment was crushing. Unbearably poseurish and the characters are hateable. You're not! Could be the most beloved trilogy song. Omg what are you waiting for?!2 points

I I totally agree with you! I think that a lot of people may disregard the trilogy because of the rough time it was for the band (eg Billie's addictions and things like that). The band seem to want to distance themselves from the trilogy because of the time of their career it represents, and maybe some GD fans want to distance themselves from it too? Nevertheless, there's a good chunk of trilogy songs that I am happy to listen to whenever they pop up in my GD playlist!!2 points

Outlaws , at first i heard "Burgerrrrrrrssss we destroyed suburbia" He pronounces it like how we pronounce "burger" in my country..I didn't get "hooligans" at the beginning.2 points

I couldn't agree with you more! A lot of people I know made a judgement of the trilogy after only listening to one song (and a few sneaky comments about the artwork!). There's so much variety in the 37 trilogy songs that every GD fan (or general music fan) should be able to find one that they can enjoy! And for me, I don't see that releasing the trilogy was a mistake on GDs part (despite what my friends think!!!). The band tried something new, realised any flaws/acknowledged the reception the albums got and were able to establish what sort of sound they wanted for themselves - eventually bringing us the absolute masterpiece that is Rev Rad!!2 points

Amen! JOS is so cringeworthy I can't watch it.2 points

That video is so great! I had to re-watch it again now and noticed that they already had the burning RevRad radio in it.2 points

I would think a minimum of even 35-40 songs would be enough to include what most people want to hear and more.1 point

I dunno if this is the right thread for this, but I saw an article last night about fans meeting celebrities and there was a story about a fan meeting Tre Cool twice http://www.suggest.com/celebs/1578832/17-people-share-their-heartwarming-encounters-with-celebrities-that-prove-theyre-just-like-us/?_fc=1578832&utm_campaign=sug-fbk-d-us-27c8349e&utm_source=fbk&_fcs#page=161 point

I mean, I don't care for it either tbh. I just...tend to not have the patience for slow GD songs. 21 Guns? Skip. Forgotten? Skip. Rest, No One Knows, and hell, even September most of the time. Brutal Love is in that bunch too. The only exception to this rule is Ordinary World. And maybe Good Riddance.1 point

I really like the Trilogy. I can't understand why it's so underrated. What I like much of Uno, Dos and Trè is their mixing, that a lot of people seem to consider one of its worst thing. I mean, when Nuclear Family begins it's so powerful and the sound is very full. Of course you can't ask a band to keep always the same raw sound of Dookie/Insomniac: GD need to evolve, right? Another fact is that GD released 37 songs where at least two thirds of them can compare with their greatest works (all the singles, expecially X-Kid and songs like Lady Cobra, Ashley, Little Boy Named Train, Nuclear Family and the amazing Brutal Love). IMO most people don't appreciate the albums just because of that third of songs they don't like. I tried several times to listen to the three albums in order and it has always been awesome, because I could experience all kinds of emotions from the fun of Kill The DJ to the sadness of The Forgotten. Maybe people just don't like the idea of 3 albums released in 3 months. Actually that's very cool. I remember listening to it while playing NFS1 point

As much as I hate Kill the DJ because it's so repetative and dumb lyrics, I really like the video. Agreed. I love JOS and WMUWSE songs but hate both videos. They're just aweful!1 point

Only videos I can't really watch are JOS and Wake Me Up When September Ends. They are fine until the music breaks and all that bullshit goes on, really turns me off the video, would rather just see the parts with the band playing, through and through. Seems any video with them and their music entertains me.1 point

The Oh Love video was awful. But I don't blame the band for it when Sam Bayer supposedly came out of retirement to direct it Not saying they had no say in it, but I doubt it was all them with a director like that (yes, I know how it works, my fiance is a musician) and Billie not being in a great state of mind. It's a shame because I actually like the way it's shot and the location, and the models thing could have been done well but it wasn't. Kill the DJ was pretty bad too, the bike part has no relevance to the rest at all1 point

Haha I find the pissed the bed line amusingly blunt. Plus going by the number of pissing stories Billie's told over the years it's most likely inspired by real life experience1 point

I'd like to see a 65 song show. Keep the Hey Oh's away and it could be done in 3 1/2 hours. A 50 song setlist would be more realistic though. Billie can't stop with the Hey Oh's.1 point

i'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but i always find myself skipping 'outlaws' and i really don't know why. i love the lyrics and really want to like it, but i just.. don't. as soon as i hear it, i skip it. whyyyyy.1 point

Ok, I tried to be very realistic using the same schema they have been doing for the club shows. That one should be great for the arena shows! 1. Somewhere Now (just stop with KYE in the beginning) 2. Bang Bang 3. Revolution Radio 4. Holiday 5. Letterbomb 6. Boulevard of Broken Dreams 7. Say Goodbye / East Jesus Nowhere (or even a medley of these two) 8. Chump 9. Longview 10. Welcome to Paradise 11. Stuart and the Ave. or 86 (or both one after another) 12. Only Of You 13. Prosthetic Head (actually I dream about this one) 14. Fashion Victim 15. Restless Heart Syndrome 16. Hitchin' A Ride 17. Waiting 18. Too Dumb To Die 19. Are We The Waiting 20. St. Jimmy 21. When I Come Around 22. Basket Case 23. Nice Guys Finish Last 24. Who Wrote Holden Coulfield? (on some concert Tre randomly plays All By Myseld and DLS here) 25. Viva La Gloria (Little Girl) (just add some 21st CB for god's sake!) Before 26 Billie Joe comes up ranting "We won't play fucking KFAD today, are you fucking ready??" 26. Still Breathing 27. Forever Now Encore: 28. American Idiot 29. Homecoming (I love JOS, but for the sake of variety) 30. Brutal Love or X-Kid or Stray Heart (some Trilogy good song, Brutal Love probably the best choice) or WMUWSE at some shows wheni BJ is emotionally ready Encore 2: 31. Ordinary World 32. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)1 point

I mean, he's just describing this silly situation of this "troublemaker" character seeing a girl at the traffic lights who has a BMW, attractive boobs, a crazy tattoo and lives at the W (a hotel chain) and flirting with her, with some silly word play thrown in. Not exactly meaningful, but it isn't trying to be, it's meant to be silly and is silly so I don't really know why everyone takes such issue with it. Overall I think it's a fun and catchy song and sounds cool musically.1 point

As I've mentioned, a while ago my mum misheard "Ashley" as "actually". Well today she heard it playing again from the next room and said, "Why does he keep singing 'ashtray'?"1 point

I thought that the song "Amanda" was about a transgender person. Kind of like "Lola". I thought some of the lyrics were. "Amanda, couldn't be a man? ". And " is this some kind of love, that only he would understand", and I thought that the lyrics "You're a different woman That's for certain I don't know a thing about" , and the playing with your mind bit were also alluding to this. Apparently i am very wrong. 😬1 point
