  2. The Stray Heart video's cool though! One of the best GD videos this century imo, even with the downside of the band not being in it.

  3. That video is so great! I had to re-watch it again now and noticed that they already had the burning RevRad radio in it.

  5. I always liked that line because I took it as he was surprised that he didn't piss the bed.

  6. You have good points there, End of the World. I agree that only a fraction of the 37 songs are not good (in my opinion) but I at least gave the other songs like Nuclear Family, X-Kid, Angel Blue, and Stop When The Red Lights Flash a try. I even tried songs I dislike Oh Love, Kill the DJ, and Nightlife, and those didn't work for me. The evolution part is true--I'm glad that Green Day has a lot of variety in their discography, even Nimrod has a nice variety of songs in it. The thing is that when a band evolves, you're either going to like their new style or not like it. I've heard people not like American Idiot because they say Green Day sold out to the emo crowd, and while I see their point, that doesn't mean I dislike American Idiot. I actually love that album & the rock opera behind it. Different songs and themes work for different people. And yeah, releasing a few albums within 3 months is awesome. Green Day is the only band I know of that's done just that.

  7. I really like the Trilogy. I can't understand why it's so underrated. What I like much of Uno, Dos and Trè is their mixing, that a lot of people seem to consider one of its worst thing. I mean, when Nuclear Family begins it's so powerful and the sound is very full. Of course you can't ask a band to keep always the same raw sound of Dookie/Insomniac: GD need to evolve, right? Another fact is that GD released 37 songs where at least two thirds of them can compare with their greatest works (all the singles, expecially X-Kid and songs like Lady Cobra, Ashley, Little Boy Named Train, Nuclear Family and the amazing Brutal Love). IMO most people don't appreciate the albums just because of that third of songs they don't like. I tried several times to listen to the three albums in order and it has always been awesome, because I could experience all kinds of emotions from the fun of Kill The DJ to the sadness of The Forgotten. Maybe people just don't like the idea of 3 albums released in 3 months. Actually that's very cool. I remember listening to it while playing NFS

  8. Exactly! I think for a lot of people, a trilogy of albums released in quick succession was probably a lot to take in, even more so that it isn't the bands best material. I've seen people mention that a different lead single (to replace Oh Love) could have possibly made the trilogy more appealing for them! And tbh, whenever the trilogy is discussed with the friend I mentioned, the first thing that is criticised is the artwork, rather than the actual music. I think that promotion/single choices/artwork may have influenced a lot of opinions on the trilogy. I have to admit, when I first heard about the trilogy, I was a little bit skeptical (as were a good few others). However, there are so many hidden gems in the trilogy that need and deserve more attention (DRB/99 Revolutions/Kill the DJ/Nuclear Family etc)!

  9. I think that's all the song references . There's also the real life stories: Billie attending a barbecue and having to piss a lot and eventually ending up actually pissing on the barbecue, Billie's brother accidentally pissing in Billie's mouth when they were in the bath together as little kids, Adrienne informing Billie that he'd got up in the night and pissed in the hotel cupboard and flushed the hanger, and Billie drinking a lot of Guinness and going to sleep and dreaming that he pissed in his suitcase and then waking up and finding piss in his suitcase. Life experience reflected in art Edit: Just thought of another one to add to your list lol, "I'll stand above you just to piss on your grave"

  10. And I agree! That was more of a grower for me though, I wasn't sure at first. It took Still Breathing to really get me excited.

  11. As simple as it is, I love the Nuclear Family video. It got me really excited for the Trilogy, and the song itself is still up there with some of their best stuff.

  12. Can I be 1000% honest right now on this board? Ok, here is goes: I've never watched that video in full (only seen stills and small snipets) and have never seen a single ounce of any other Trilogy music video. In fact, I don't even know what other songs have videos. I saw one piece of the KTD music vid and I was like "lol nope, no time for that bye"

  13. Smells Like Teen Spirit, Holiday, BOBD, AI, WElcome to the Black Parade, etc He has most definitely had some misses, but he has had a hell of alot of hits too. I would say he is a spotty director

  15. I like that line. It definitely helps convey the "oh fuck" theme running through the song. Fell For You is one of my favourite Green Day love songs. In other news, repping the trilogy #trilogy4lyf A guy once spotted this t-shirt and my Uno Chucks and started ranting about how new Green Day sucks. It was a bad time.

  16. Didn't even think of it that way, even better . It always makes me think of that "like a dog [horrible fart noise] that just pissed on the barbecue" line in Sick of Me as well (incidentally there was an interview around that time where Billie mentioned that he had actually pissed on a barbecue recently lol). But of course no one ever complains about that since it's not on the trilogy, they're allowed to have funny/silly lyrics on other albums

  17. Just listened to Last of the American Girls and I've noticed that the vocal range of BJ in this song is of just 3 notes (B, C# and D#, try to sing it). Simple and perfect.

  18. What bothers me about the trilogy is that Green Day has proven to me with albums such as Warning and American Idiot that they are capable of writing original songs. However, there are barely any original songs in the trilogy--it's almost all just about romance and sex, which is wayyy too common with mainstream music. To me, Tre has the most original songs: X-Kid, Dirty Rotten Bastards, 99 Revolutions, and A Little Boy Named Train. Otherwise, I only enjoy songs like Missing You, Let Yourself Go, and Stay the Night for the sound & not for the lyrics, if this makes sense. My favorite album in the trilogy is Tre, and like I said in the Overhated GD Songs thread, I think there's only 2 or 3 songs from that album that I don't like, but I haven't listened to the entire album yet (almost every song however). I really enjoy the good songs in Tre--I just wish the guitars had more of that Dookie, Nimrod, or American Idiot sound to them. My least favorite album in the trilogy is Dos, and it's because of the wild party & sex theme throughout (which is not my thing unless under the context of humor). The only songs I enjoy are Stray Heart, Lazy Bones, Fuck Time, and Stop When The Red Lights Flash, all pretty much for the tune except Lazy Bones. I do like how Stop When The Red Lights Flash reminds me of traffic lights--that's a cool part of the song. I know this doesn't count as a part of the trilogy but I also love Demolicious--the demos are oftentimes better than the album equivalents, for example, Angel Blue & Let Yourself Go are better on Demolicious. I haven't seen the movie Quatro yet but I think I'll enjoy watching it.

  20. Just when the people talk, the video itself and what's happening during the song is fine. Why must the characters in the video say anything, it is pretty obvious what is going on just based on the lyrics.

  22. David was simple man he had no better sense one day he pissed on an electric fence it curled up his hair and it tingled in his balls one day is F(woo)ed up his overalls.

  23. And AI and 21CB weren't even real serious. Those songs sound so fake and insincere. Trilogy on the other hand is so personal. That's why I like it so much. Fuck Time -> Top 10 GD song

  24. You know what? I think, at least for me, a lot of the dislike isn't so much in the songs themselves but just the era as a whole. It wasn't the best concept, I associate it with them struggling and me being distant from the fandom and...those are what overshadows any quality in just purely the music and songs themselves. If I think about it, the only trilogy album I truly would say I dislike and disliked listening to was Dos. (Which is heartbreaking bc Mike has always been my fave)

  25. Oh Love's music video is very very over hated music video for no reason. Worked for the song!

  26. The Kill the DJ video isn't bad, kind of average but not terrible, it's quite entertaining. I'd forgotten that existed , should give it another watch. But now you've reminded me of the amazing fan made Nuclear Family video that they picked as a contest winner! So cute and awesome. @RougeRogue if you haven't seen any trilogy videos you must at least see this one

  27. Also the F/B live thing where BJ said if you like Bang Bang Im pretty sure you are going to like RevRad.

  29. And SLTS was only good because Kurt went in and re edited Sam's edit was not good never seen the Black Parade but BOBD AI and Holiday were storyboarded by GD were they not that may be the reason for that have you seen the movie he directed? The Nightmare remake just horrible

  30. Yeah, which communicates how intense his feelings were. I'm also happy to be analysing this lyric Going to listen to it now

  31. OK the fart noise has been complained about, fair enough. But the piss lyric hasn't And yeah, it's the fact he'd think he'd pissed the bed before he'd think he'd just been sweating though . I guess it indicates that it was an unusually large amount of sweat. (btw I'm so happy to be analysing this lyric )

  32. Brutal Love is probably my favorite song of theirs, and possibly my favorite song, period. There's something so visceral about it. Brilliantly written and so emotionally performed.

  33. I loved Brutal Love followed by Good Riddance at Brixton in 2013, couldn't get a more perfect ending! Can't complain too much about it being gone since I've already got to see it but it would be great if they brought it back.

  35. Haha I find the pissed the bed line amusingly blunt. Plus going by the number of pissing stories Billie's told over the years it's most likely inspired by real life experience

  36. I think it's super cheesy, but I like it anyway.

  37. I feel 21st century breakdown(though it is my favorite album) was very weak with its singles. I mean, KYE is ok, but not first single worthy. I would probably trade it and the last 2 for little girl, murder city, and Before the lobotomy. Add in a little more promotion for these songs and they have 5 hits. Also, I think the static age is ok, but there are better options.

  39. 1. I was just explaining why I was criticizing Troublemaker to Hermione 2. It's amazing that that's coming from you. If anybody even mentions American Idiot, 21CB or RevRad, you have to make your comment about how shit they are when A) Everyone already knows your opinion and B) Nobody gives a fuck about it

  40. I mean, he's just describing this silly situation of this "troublemaker" character seeing a girl at the traffic lights who has a BMW, attractive boobs, a crazy tattoo and lives at the W (a hotel chain) and flirting with her, with some silly word play thrown in. Not exactly meaningful, but it isn't trying to be, it's meant to be silly and is silly so I don't really know why everyone takes such issue with it. Overall I think it's a fun and catchy song and sounds cool musically.
    1 point
  41. I will agree that Troublemaker has some of Billie's worst lyrics but the song itself is super catchy. I don't find myself totally distracted by the lyrics when I listen to it and not all of them are bad, so I don't mind it. These are the lyrics that make me say that: I like your BMW / I like your BM-excellent tits / With a tattoo of a pig sniffing glue / You're living at the W But I assume he's using things that are stereotypically desirable to men as metaphors for the girl being desirable. The W fits in with the New York theme going on. I'm not denying they're cringeworthy and OK, I don't get the pig sniffing glue But I sort of get what he was trying to say in general and the BM-excellent tits have given me a laugh.

  42. Remember to remove videos and images from quotes people It's open because threads for talking about all Green Day's albums are allowed on GDC not just the new one. If you don't like it don't post in it. Some of Seagull's posts might be stupid shit but so is making fun of someone for liking a Green Day album and trying to prevent them from talking about it while on a Green Day forum. "I wouldn't say I'm straight 'cause I'm bent out of shape" is the most badass line of the trilogy and one of my favourite GD lyrics, that whole part of the song including the solo before it is so cool! I know people like to dwell on one deliberately silly joke line but that's not all there is to the song . I love Troublemaker and Uno! Did u know Drama Queen was originally on 21st CB? It was on early tracklistings and versions of the album played for journalists and they had to change it right at the last minute when they decided to replace it with Murder City. Could it be you like a 21st CB song?
