  5. I also happened to talk to the guy who was driving Green Day's equipment and wardrobe around for this portion of the tour at the show on Monday and he told me he was 90% sure they filmed a video for Still Breathing. So I'm really hoping that guy wasn't fucking with me.

  6. Yes!! I have CBDS 7inch with Ashville on it and it's great though I prefer the vocals on PHGP version. I love Mundt and have some of their 7 inches also but haven't heard their version of the PHGP songs. I need to track them down now The great thing about Aaron is that you could spend forever chasing down all the bands he was in just to discover he's in a new one. It's endless Aaron has a bizarre obsession with jumping into hedges I'm serious he really has/had a thing about diving into hedges and seems to take the whole thing rather seriously. This is taken from Lanky and I'm only taking part of what he said about jumping into the "legendary cross shaped hedge" because it's way too long! "There is a particularly fulfilling feeling of diving into a hedge. Of losing yourself in it, deep among the leaves and dusty debris, swimming, losing your hat in it usually too and getting pulled out by your crew just in time for a mad dash from the angry neighbours and neighbourhood watchers. It's an addictive feeling not unlike the best dancing, when you lose all sense of up and down. You even lose track of the distinction between your body and other bodies - or walls, floors, and drumsets. But a good hedge has even more of an anti-gravity effect. Firm, yet pliant. Gentle and loving, yet brutal and unforgiving. At once familiar and full of surprises; surprises consisting of but not limited to: broken bottles, old toys, sharp sticks, bricks, thorns, and our favourite, metal fences. Many a night we were impaled, nay, flayed, by an errant hedge. Nights for which we still bear the scars. We all sat together, grouped like a list of afflictions or synonyms for suffering. Gathered in front of the reservoir in the early morning mist, still soaked from the rain and sore from the battle, licking our wounds. Did I mention it was my birthday party? 19. The years, they pass so fast." Now try looking at a hedge the same way again!

  7. My ideal Green Day setlist would look completely different of course but I tried to create one that is more realistic and similar to the setlists they're currently playing. I just want them to drop their most annoying song ever (King For A Day) as well as their old "rarities" they always play (Burnout, Christie Road, Hitchin A Ride,...) and replace them with songs they don't usually play. They have an enormous catalogue and songs like Sassafras Roots, Worry Rock and Jackass are just examples and could be replaced by any other song obviously. I know other people want them to drop Jesus of Suburbia but this song is just too good to be dropped. Minority shouldn't be extended that much though. In addition, I hate their acoustic encore, shows should end with a banger, therefore Going To Pasalacqua seems to be a good choice just like in Sacramento 2009. As I said, this is not my dream setlist since there are still too many singles in it but you can't drop them all. But I don't see any problem with replacing some regular old songs with other ones. I don't really like their structure anymore but it's too complicated to create a structure since there are lots of things you have to consider. 1. Bang Bang 2. Revolution Radio 3. Know Your Enemy 4. Holiday 5. Letterbomb 6. Boulevard of Broken Dreams 7. Longview 8. Private Ale 9. Armatage Shanks 10. Stuart and the Ave. 11. 409 in Your Coffeemaker 12. Brat 13. One of My Lies 14. I Was There 15. 8. Where I read it in Despite Everything (reprinted from Cometbus #29 in a chapter called "Come to the bus") he said it was "the most ridiculous rumour I've ever heard" and also mentioned "...- what the fuck??!? I was perplexed when I heard this, half amused and half angry. It was a good story and all, and much more interesting than the boring truth, which was that before the show I'd dumpstered a few big bags of buttons, and we'd used markers to make them 'Blatz', 'Green Day' and 'Cometbus' buttons, then I'd tossed them out at the show. We didn't tell any girls to 'come to the bus', in fact nobody talked to us and we just wandered off and got drunk and destroyed some hedges and I lost my hat in one and then we slept on a cold floor. It wasn't the glorious stuff rumours are made of. So I couldn't figure out that damn rumour at all until...". So yeah he definitely didn't like it and wanted to make sure it was straightened out, although he did see the funny side as well by the time he wrote about it at least. And yes his lyrics are wonderful (as well as his writing)

  12. It still sounds more angry than emotional to me and it doesn't change the music not reflecting the emotion of the lyrics unlike Still Breathing. We'll have to agree to disagree on that one

  13. It's a simple google search, ya'll: "Excess alcohol consumption can cause dehydration in a variety of ways. Firstly, alcohol decreases the body's production of anti-diuretic hormone, which is used by the body to reabsorb water. With less anti-diuretic hormone available, your body loses more fluid than normal through increased urination." Billie's suggestion is good advice despite not being presented scientifically.

  14. At the last show, they played Bang Bang, Rev Rad, Ordinary World, Youngblood, Somewhere Now, Forever Now and Still Breathing. That is more than half the album.

  16. Thank you! Yeah I know, no interview can be 100% truthful because they're just promotion really. I did get the impression they were really proud of 21CB, though. Either way, I still find it funny that people were insisting the band hated it just because they didn't like it when he was saying that
    2 points
  17. I think what they say in an interview about an album doesn't necessarily mean that this is how they truly feel about it. Of course they're gonna say it's the best album they've ever made when they're promoting it and want people to buy / listen to it. Nobody's gonna buy an album if even the band says they hate it But I doubt they hate it, because the album is one of the best they've ever made

  20. But isn't Troubled Times exactly about being speechless? About the fact that you just can't put into words what happened in Paris - and in Europe right now, in general? The horrible attacks in Paris might have inspired Billie to write this, but to me, the song is much more. I feel that it's about the whole continent falling apart, with terrorism turning us against each other, the rise of right-wing powers and talking about putting borders back up because we start to distrust each other. And we all know what happened the last time when Europe started to fall apart, but obviously we didn't learn anything ("What part of history we've learned, when it's repeated?"). What's happening right now on this continent is scaring the hell out of me and I'm angry and helpless at the same time. Maybe I'm reading way too much out of this song because I'm sitting right in the middle of this conflict around me, but I think the song captures the mixed feelings and the dark future this continent might be facing in the future perfectly, even without many words. It feels dark, depressing and threatening and makes me even more uncomfortable when I listen to it and think about the Europe I used to love and that's standing at the edge (of the world) right now...

  21. Do you know the song is not talking about period right. It's about being old enough to be hurt by the world.

  24. I thought the line was a bit... odd the first few times I listened to it, but I was never uncomfortable about it. I appreciate it even more knowing it makes certain kinds of men squirmy Wait, it isn't? Then what does that line mean? And I've gotta admit I've never really analysed the Tubbies' songs for much meaning, so it's news to me about Red Tide hahaha. I just enjoy that record for what it is on the surface, but I haven't listened to it properly in years and might take a different approach to it now.

  25. Just going to say that Aaron said that this was the absolute worst rumour he ever heard about himself because it made him sound so sleazy and disgusting. He hated it and actually ranted about it. Absolutely. He writes about it constantly and discusses it openly in interviews. They absolutely rule!! He has about a million bands but they're probably my favourite after Pinhead Gunpowder (who in fairness I prefer to GD).

  29. Errr, 21CB was not successful? How do you figure that? 21 Guns was everywhere, the Grammys, the fact it coincided with the musical etc. all made it seem pretty successful to me. I'm very confused about how a #1 album is deemed unsuccessful.

  30. I have the vinyl and I don't remember what I paid for it which is probably a good thing because with shipping it was probably horrendous I got it from No Idea Records and the copy I got was scribbled on on the outside with pink marker which they claimed was done by Aaron himself. I've no idea if that's true or not but I was happier buying it from them than from eBay or Discogs. I didn't know that the CD had different tracks Oh no...now you've started me off on a search for the CD

  35. Anyone know what interview this is? I knew he'd said that in Kerrang but I didn't realise he'd said it in other interviews too. Makes it even more amusing that people were insisting the band hated 21CB when it came out

  36. It's not about periods, but it does deliberately bring starting periods to mind as a metaphor for being old enough to be hurt by the world or exploited by the world. I think Red Tide is more about PMS/the effect of hormones during a period than the "red tide" itself. I dig that they'll happily write about periods and even managed to make a song about periods sexy, don't know how popular/unpopular that is

  37. The key to my perfect show would be Timmy Chunks, touring guitar tech extraordinaire, sound checking Blue as they set up GD's stage at a festival sometime again. During the '98-'02 era he would stand center stage and punch away at random power chords at full volume while they furiously set up GD's equipment at festivals. During the shows I saw during this era (Warped, local radio festivals such as River Rave) this would seriously get the crowd even more fired up than the Pink Bunny does today. Long live Timmy Chunks and jamming on Blue before Green Day came out. It was awesome. Yes, screen name bias noted.

  39. Yes if you listen closely you'll find that the ahh-ahhs actually mean "Yes, that was the actual chorus, deal with It". Exactly! I didn't know that song so thanks for posting it, it's very nice You're absolutely in the right thread. And I disagree. I think that another factor to be taken into consideration is how a song is written (aside from the fact that songs don't necessarily need to be meaningful and there's nothing wrong with fun or light hearted songs). It's the difference between an hypothetic bland line like "we need to figure out a way to make our relationship work because we're kinda struggling with it" and a song like Church on Sunday. If you read my line you could say "yeah my relationship is exactly like this because my partner bla bla and I totally relate to this", but my line still sucks and Church on Sunday, even if it says the same thing, is beautiful.

  41. I love Too Dumb To Die! Might be my second favourite on RevRad. I didn't like the intro at first but it's grown on me and I just love that verse about his dad. Still Breathing isn't Billie's most complex lyrical venture, but I don't really feel it's cliched or impersonal. Some of the lines can come across as cliches depending on how you look at it, but the way he sings it, gradually building up to him screaming the chorus, rescues them for me. As well as relating to his own life I think the comparisons to others (soldier, single mother, junkie, etc) reflect well what he said about "how we're all intertwined". When it was released and everyone was inspired to share their personal struggles with strangers around the world, I really felt that. All the stories were different and the people sharing them were all totally different people, but it showed that as he said, we are all intertwined. I may well be biased because it hit me so hard on a personal level, but "my head's above the rain and roses / making my way to you" are definitely my favourite lines from the album.

  42. As mentioned it's like the word comet and the word bus (his real name being Aaron Elliott - Cometbus isn't a real surname and just comes from the name of his zine Cometbus, which is fully titled 'Ride the Wohl Whip Cometbus', a title made up by a guy he knew which he apparently has no idea of the meaning of). But it's funny you ask that because there was a story Aaron told once about how when he was a roadie for Green Day in their early days they made some buttons that said "Green Day" and "Cometbus" on them (but because they were small it was on two lines like "Green/Day" "Come/tbus") and gave a load of them out to the crowd at a show. Then afterwards he heard a ridiculous rumour that at Green Day's show the band and their roadie had given girls they wanted to sleep with buttons that said "come to the bus". He couldn't work out why anyone would think that, until he realised that the way it was written on the button it kind of looked like "come to bus" . You just totally reminded me of it.

  43. His real name is Aaron Elliot , but Cometbus is pronounced "Comet-Bus" If you like his lyrics, I suggest checking out his band Cleveland Bound Death Sentence! And Crimpshrine's a classic, although Jeff Ott's vocals are an aquired taste
