I was at my sister's yesterday and I was putting punk songs on YouTube and talking about all the old punk bands who are still going, Basket Case autoplayed so I pointed to them as an example and she replied "Green Day are more of an institution really, like you wouldn't refer to the Statue Of Liberty as 'still going', it just is." She's not even really a fan, so that's cool.7 points

The guys and Billie in particular sound so good in the interviews they've done so far! I find his talking much more focused and on point, he has clearly worked on it. I don't know, he seems more mature and he has even almost completely removed the "y'knows", I could barely hear any in his recent interviews. Have you guys noticed that too?2 points

I want to hug that Rock Sound interview and never let go of it. Wow. I'll try to upload screenshots later (I bought it with the app), but I'm sure scans would still be preferred if anyone has them.2 points

I agree - I also think he'd miss Mike and Tre too much to move over here full time hahah2 points

The years won't go in vain, and my opinions have now a closed spot (hopefully). Good things: - There is songs that deserve a shiny place being played live constantly, along the classics. Nuclear Family, Stay the night, Rusty James, Missing You, Stray Heart are all good songs and I need them in live context. Nuclear Family could be easily mistaken with a Nimrod song, if weren't for the guitar tone. - Guitar work. A lot of amazing solos, quite a step up looking all records after 39/Smooth. Loss of Control, Wow, that's loud, Makeout Party, among others. Tasty - Sound challenge: piano driven songs, beatles-esque songs, some old school rock and roll and even rap! You can hate Nightlife all you want, but can't deny that this band has guts to release songs like that! - Interesting themes: Little boy named Train and X-kid are highlights to me 'cause they bring something new to the table. Growing up and getting demoralized to the point of wishing death is hard. Hard also is, the lack of identificacion with things that society tells you must identificate yourself with that, while feeling that you don't fit with any of the descriptions. Bad things: - Guitar tone: plain death. They wanted to leave more space to drums and bass, but there are other ways to achive that. - Leaving "State of Shock" and "Dreamcatcher" outside the records. The last one still hurts me - Lack of promotion: I know that rehab shaked all things up, but they opted for a small tour, then playing dookie and goodbye. So many cool things went to waste - Song structures: with 37 songs, they could make it better instead the common verse/chorus/verse in the mayority of songs. But well, is not that Green Day is an expert doing uncommon shapes for songs. They are a pop band after all. In the middle - Mid-life crisis lyrics: I like honesty, and Billie Joe was way more frontal in lyrics than in American Idiot or Breakdown, but not at the point he looked like bleeding after a beatup in the floor. I mean, Lazy bones is cool, but too open for my taste. I prefer the aproach of Rusty James or 8th Avenue Serenade, even Sex, Drugs & Violence.2 points

"Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong cracked his biggest smile of a joyous night at Webster Hall on Saturday when the raucous capacity crowd began screaming the words to “Still Breathing” back to him." http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/music/green-day-celebrates-30th-anniversary-at-webster-hall-show-1.124280002 points

Well, being sober probably helps with being more mature and well-spoken quite a bit. It's hard to think straight if your brain is cloudy (and you don't even necessarily need to be abusing anything for prescriptions to make you foggy). He keeps talking about having more clarity now, and it definitely shows. He has been awesome in interviews lately, and definitely seems to have done some growing up, but in the best way. It makes me so happy to see him in such a good spot. Life is pretty damn good right now.1 point

I've been listening to the recording of the American Idiot musical for days now (sometimes switching things up a little and listening to RevRad a few times in a row) and I'm honestly so in love with it. I listened to it like 3 months ago for the first time and now I bought the CD and I can't stop listening to it. I think this is as close as I'm gonna get to experiencing the musical and I'm so glad they recorded it. Absolutely beautiful and I'm realizing now how much I've been missing out on in the past 5-6 years.1 point

He'd probably go to England though, which can hardly be considered "Team Europe" anymore I mean geographically yes still Europe but it does feel like England are leaving #teameurope.1 point

Since 2009 I've successfully bought tickets for 2 arena shows, a stadium show and 2 smaller (3000/5000 people) shows through Idiot Club presales, never once failed. I know it doesn't always work out that way for everyone, and I haven't ever tried buying them in a general sale so I can't compare it, but from my experience at least I'd say it's worth it. If nothing else it's just nice to have that extra chance before the general sale, knowing you'll still have a second shot even if you don't get them.1 point

Got a couple here I just can't unhear: In Somewhere Now "Now I shop online so I can booze at the speed of light"! and In Too Dumb to Die "My daddy always was a trike"! Sorry Billie to mishear your lyrics so badly!1 point

I would never consider 'too open' a negative in music? Everyone is different of course but no such thing as too open in music for me! I also want to hear Kill The DJ live. I find that song to actually be quite personal under surface level because I've always listened to it with the viewpoint that the DJ is the voice of addiction/mental illness spinning bullshit in your brain and you trying to hold it underwear till that mother fucker drowns... just my take.1 point

I would love to hear Lazy Bones live! It's one of my favorites off of the Trilogy. I don't know how many times I scream/sang along to this song in the car crying when it came out. I'm not sure if we'll get to hear it this time around. I understand why he would mentally - just for now - need to not really revisit these songs. I won't be surprised if they skip over the albums for this tour but who knows, maybe next tour around they'll all feel good to pepper some in. Or maybe we'll get a few as they start picking up steam this time around, guessing game.1 point

He kinda blew me away playing St. Jimmy on Broadway. He was very emotive, and added a lot of little details to the performance that fleshed the character out. And for the singing side of the performance, he was amazing. I went with my parents and my mom was thinking he wouldn't stack up well next to classically trained Broadway singers, but to this day she talks about how incredible he sounded. I think it's cool that he likes trying other creative outlets, whether it is acting or just trying out a different genre like he did with Norah Jones. I love that he's open to trying new things and doesn't limit himself to staying in one box. He's super talented, so he definitely should keep trying new things.1 point

Point taken. I have seen many footages of Billie playing St. Jimmy and he was good. Now I realized that this would be more like musical not "normal" movie. For me he's just not a good actor and that was my point. I'm not like "Billie should only play in Green Day". I really appreciate that he's doing something else and his other ideas are not related to Green Day (I'm really greatful that Green Day as band isn't part of Foreverly). I just think that he shouldn't play in movies but that's only my opinion1 point

@Billie Hoe I know, I feel bad. I mean, you put yourself in the position of being criticized any time you talk politics, and I'm sure Billie knows that. But like...what do people want from him? Hillary isn't the ideal democratic candidate for a lot of folks, and I understand that. But the choice is her or Trump. As much as I'd like an independent candidate to be a legitimate option, they just won't be in the running. That's not how our voting system is set up, so the choice comes down to Trump or Clinton. That's not Billie's fault, he's just being practical here. I'm super proud that my favorite artist is so outspoken against Trump and is encouraging people to vote for love instead of hate. A lot of times when people are fed up they choose to not vote at all, and that drives me mad. So good for Billie.1 point

Billie got so much hate for his "I'm with her" comment from Hillary haters and/or Trump supporters and wannabe punks on facebook that they took the picture down. Sad it has to come to this every single time he so much as utters Trump's name in any context. I didn't know what these people expected? He's a person who was so outspoken about Bush years ago and the world celebrated Green Day for it but now suddenly it has become a problem? Suddenly he's supposed to "shut up about politics and stick to music"? Why do people STILL act like Hillary is just as bad as Trump? Why is Billie the stupid one for knowing that voting third party or not voting at all (looking at the punk scene) isn't gonna help. What is happening?!1 point

Let me know if you want to know something else! Here's a couple additional things I remember us bringing up in the past. The following is a post from August of 2013 by Andres from this thread talking about the history of the sites There's also a thread about how the site looked over the years if you're interested as well.1 point

Mike saying that he "isn't anywhere near done" with making music on SiriusXM was great to hear. I know Billie says it all the time, but hearing Mike verbalize the same emotions let me knows that there's many albums to come.1 point

iTunes added "Stop Drop and Roll" to the Green Day iTunes page. Maybe this will help that great album get exposure. Also, International Superhits is 99 cents on Google Play!1 point

Saying this here so I'm not going off topic elsewhere, I keep seeing people saying the 99 Revs tour was bad but I honestly don't think there was anything wrong with the majority of shows I went to. Yeah, looking back the pre-rehab stuff was off and they were definitely nervous in Chicago because it was the first arena show, but at all the others I went to I thought they were at their best. Two of the best GD shows I've ever seen (Pittsburgh and Emirates) were on that tour. I got accused of blindly loving everything they do last time I said this but that is definitely not the case When you've been travelling and lining up for a lot of shows it's easy to get ratty and critical but I really didn't.1 point

The trilogy is massively underrated and seems to be very misunderstood. The three records were like one great record with all the cool b-sides included. Why in the eff wouldn't a Green Day fan be over the moon for these records is beyond me. I love the fun Green Day / Foxboro Hot Tubs kind of songs that were very present on Dos especially but really all throughout the records. I like the honestly of the lyrics and showcasing ideas of fun & love. Not everything has to be a massive political statement. A lot of us are miserable in our day to day lives. Fun is a good thing for us. The songs are fun & different enough to be exciting & the lyrics seem honest & real in so many of the songs. The same people complaining about the cartoony caricature writing of American Idiot & 21CB also seem to be dumping on the trilogy. The trilogy has some of the most honest & raw writing I've seen in years of Green Day records. Sometimes a grown man has a hangover or a crush or a thought about a missing friend or all kinds of crazy stuff! I'm so happy Billie Joe wrote honestly as the character of himself & how he might feel lazy or nostalgic or what-have-you. It happens. And sometimes an artist will write something funny, lazy, epic, spontaneous & strange. I like how the trilogy gives a fan the best of what makes Green Day Green Day plus a whole lot more. Growing up with Green Day has been a blast and the trilogy was a great gift for me. Uno, Dos, Tre was a very ambitious project & am super grateful they did it. I hope they'll play a lot more songs from those albums live. Seems to be missing from the current set lists. Please for the love of all that is good bring back some trilogy songs to the set lists and realize these songs are appreciated & fans would love to hear them again!1 point
