  1. I never said Nightlife was a masterpiece or the greatest song ever but I love the music and I love Billie's parts it's dark depressing to me escp the "I'm rollin', strollin' into town Is it me or am I going crazy? This dirty city is my sugar town My little angel of death is my nightlife" part escp during 2012 when the song came out spending the entire day in the hospital for the entire month of Dec watching my grandmother die and spending the night driving around Houston alone swallowing Vicodins like skittles and drinking codeine all night listening to this song and other songs so I do like Nightlife cause of memories attached to the song for me

  2. I wouldn't call it awesome, but there's something mystique about that song I've always liked. I'm surprised that I like it much more now than back in 2012 when it came out. I think we can't take the lyrics literally, I'm pretty sure they are almost 100% metaphorical. To me, it always felt like the song is about the path that GD or celebrities in general take while they become famous: There's temptation everywhere, and yes, it can be sexual temptation, but also alcohol, drugs, money, fame... There's always something on that path that whispers "Hey boy, come over...". I have the strong feeling that Billie is dealing with his addiction there, too. "Taking a ride to my old haunt, she's in my blood" makes that pretty obvious, at least to me. I might be wrong, but that's the way I feel about the song.

  3. This is exactly what I was thinking. Lady Cobra could be seen as the embodiment of all Billie's vices. As sexual as the lyrics sound, they never outright mention sex, and could so easily refer to any of the many temptations of a rockstar (or even normal) lifestyle. But even if you aren't looking for a deeper meaning, nightlife is still a fun song. My only complaint was the electric drum beat, until I realised that I actually fits the song better than tre banging away on a kit. It's great fun to listen to and the duet I do with my sister is amusing.

  4. I want to hate Bang Bang so much because the lyrics aren't clicking for me, but it's such a damn good song I find myself singing it all the time Speaking of lyrics clicking, it took me 11 years to realize that "welcome to a new kind of tension, all across the alien nation" is actually "alienation" which means that, at least to me, the line has two different meanings. An "alien nation" is a blanket term for any foreign country, but to "alienate as a nation" is to fear-monger by tightening borders and becoming increasingly xenophobic. Sound familiar?

  6. Until like 2009 they had merch from all eras there and it was great, you could get a Nimrod shirt or a Kerplunk scarf and all sorts of things. It's a shame they only sell new stuff now, I'm sure they're missing out on profit by not selling stuff with classic/popular designs that loads of people would want.

  7. the sight of him drinking something non-alcoholic instead of the regular beer you would normally see in his hands in a situation like this makes me very, very happy

  8. just read this online, pretty weird: more time has passed between Revolution Radio and American Idiot than between American Idiot and Dookie

  9. I'm not particularly fond of Nightlife but a song doesn't have to have profound - or even particularly great - lyrics for people to find it awesome. People like different things.

  10. I almost got one once when I won a contest on GDC and could choose a prize from the store, but I went for the Kerplunk scarf instead. It's cool but kind of massive and not very wearable, should've got the pillowcase

  11. I just donated because what the hell, I'll help the chimps and maybe I will be lucky. The thank you letter is an email with Billie Joe Armstrong as sender. I will save that email for the rest of my life.

  13. There's been various different contests on here in the past, sometimes with prizes (although we haven't had any for a while ). This was in like 2008 though.

  14. American Idiot turns 12 today. I'm feeling a bit nostalgic—that album opened up an entirely new universe for me. Had this album not come into my life, I very literally would not be who I am. Happy Birthday, AI!

  15. Yeah not a day goes past that I'm not grateful for lyrics like "I hope there's more in your pants than a bus route" Lady Cobra is indeed a true hero among mere mortals.

  16. Thank you! I've never thought about the length of the songs this way. It does make sense that shortening them might make them better. But leave Rusty James alone. I agree it's dragged on too much, but I'm totally OK with that.

  17. Oh! He's so pretty; look at that nose and those eyes! Weirdly enough though, from this angle, he kinda resembles my French teacher.

  18. This is by far the most praise for Last Ride In I've ever seen in one place, I love it.

  19. I think the bridge to Haushinka may be my favorite part of a Green Day song ever. That doesn't mean the entire song is my favorite, either. It's just... so fucking epic when that song builds to the bridge and final chorus and I will never stop loving it. I'd kill to see that live someday.
