  1. Brutal Love >>>>>> All other Trilogy songs

  2. Kill the DJ is amazing. My one complaint is that the "someone kill the dj" line is repeated way too much at the tail end of the song, but overall that song has such a cool feel to it and is definitely experimental for Green Day.

  3. It's the way it's put. It is from the shooter's point of view but he wouldn't be using cheeky, sarcastic phrases like "daddy's little psycho" or "give me death or give me head" or "I wanna start a rager!" to describe his motives, he'd make his justifications and describe himself with much more serious/emotional words. I think Billie expresses the shooter's motives through these sarcastic phrases in a way that exposes how irrational they are (without having to actually say it) while at the same time satirizing the way the media makes criminals famous. I don't think that takes away from the seriousness of the subject or the darkness of the song though, on the contrary these snappy phrases contrasted with the extremely dark subject matter only further highlight how dark it is. I agree that line is self reflection, but the way it's phrased adds another layer to it.

  4. Absolutely. One of their best ever. And some of Billie's absolute best writing. That song evokes such interesting, strong emotions. It has a sense of struggle and longing that isn't typically captured in a song. It describes exactly what it says it does, brutal love.

  6. The only song that I truly disliked from the Trilogy was "Nightlife". There were some tracks that I felt "meh" about but didn't outright hate. However, it seems like everyone hates "Kill the DJ", which is such a mystery to me. That was the song (along with "Nuclear Family") that made me want to purchase Uno. Green Day accomplished a pretty amazing feat with that song IMO--they got me to become addicted to something that falls under the category of dance music.

  7. Lazy Bones is one of the best songs on the Trilogy. One of my all-time favorites of theirs, actually.

  11. September is here once again and so are the "don't make Wake Me Up jokes posts". They are the one and only reason someone still will make this joke for the 12th time. If I make one joke for every don't joke post, the internet will explode on October 1st.

  12. Yes! I think it's one of their best, ever. Great song. I Also LOVE 8th Ave. Serenade and X Kid. Those three are as good as any songs they have ever done.

  17. Not necessarily Green Day news, but who knows.. Punknews.org posted that The Smugglers will be playing something called "The Lookouting'' at Gilman, early next year. From their words, ''The Berkley, CA show will feature a number of veteran acts from the now-defunct Lookout Records family performing between January 6th and 8th of 2017. Other bands performing include Corrupted Morals, Jüke and Wynona Riders with more to be announced.'' - that's the part that got me intrigued. I think we can definitely consider Green Day as Gilman veteran act, and they're on good terms with them now, so who knows.. Here's a link to event - https://www.facebook.com/events/925558114217132/

  18. What about his turbulent on again off again romance with Paul Westerberg? That had us all hoping he wouldn't end up with hurt feelings.

  19. It's interesting. For most bands, these sales figures would have been a success; for Green Day, they signified a failure. Not because they didn't sell any albums, but because they didn't sell anywhere near as many as they were expected to, as many as they could or should have done. They just didn't live up to expectations. It's like if I ran 100m in 11 seconds that would be awesome, but for usain bolt that would be a failure. It's all relative. The same goes for the critics. Green Day are capable of putting out albums with far better reviews than mixed-positive, that's a failure for them, or rather an area in which they could have done better.

  27. I stopped listening to Bang Bang like for a week or two and just now I've been relistening the song and wow, it is amazing. After some live performances I can totally see this song being a Green Day classic.

  28. Yeah, probably. If he was talking about Bang Bang the song, I'd take as an average review but I just don't see the point in focusing on the lyrics video. (At first I thought he saw a preview of the music video, the headline was a bit clickbait-y) He's mixing apples and oranges. (But I have to appreciate the mention of Harambe.)

  30. Why can't the shooter say "daddy's little psycho?" If he, for instance, got more support from his mother and his dad actually left because he couldn't handle his son's issues then I think this could be some sort of self-reflection, but in the way how his dad and his mom sees him. He doesn't think that of himself.

If lead single “Bang Bang” is any indication, the upcoming Revolution Radio will be just as politically caustic and palette-cleansing. —Jason Lipshutz

  34. Guys, do you think they will perform trilogy songs in the upcoming tour? My guess is that they will, but maybe only songs from ¡Uno! since it was the only one that get more sales and everything.

  35. Who said it's mocking the shooter? I think it's satire about the entire situation, particularly the media's role in the issue. It is giving the shooter's point of view but there's more to the lyrics than just that, the sarcastic turns of phrase and references to the media add other meanings and make it satirical social commentary rather than just a description. It comes across much more as a comment on the media than an in depth psychological exploration to me (even if that's done through psychological exploration). @Hero_Of_The_Hour Just because Billie put himself in the mind of the shooter while writing the song, and said the Rodgers case was an influence, that doesn't mean the only possible interpretation is that it's just a straight description of what Rodgers did. Billie didn't say those were the only things that went into the song, and listening to the lyrics it sounds like there's more to it. And the song doesn't present psychological problems as the only reason for murder, it presents a range of reasons that could contribute to it. Satire on how the media makes murderers famous or what a messed up phenomenon mass shootings are isn't mockery of the crimes themselves or the victims. How is "give me death or give me head" or "hurrah! hurrah! the hero of the hour" or "daddy's little soldier" or "I get my kicks and I wanna start a rager" anything but dark sarcasm?

  36. I don't think that line isn't first person though. I think the whole song is first person. That lyric ("Daddy's little psycho, mommy's little soldier") is arguably the punchline of the song and, I think, the most obviously satirical. Isn't satire a form of rhetoric?

  37. We can't understand the POV is what I was trying to say. We know the surface reason. Just because it's written from that POV doesn't mean it's attempting to understand it or speak literally from the shooter's mouth. The shooter wouldn't call himself daddy's little psycho. That's a satirical line. Maybe you need to re-read the lyrics.

  38. Yes. He may not be entirely literal in his portrayal of the shooter's point of view, but he isn't satirical - he's serious.

  41. I don't think you always have to directly relate to a song. To me it's more that it's a subject that's important and that everyone has thought about and wants to make sense of after seeing it happening so much. So it's compelling to see it explored and in some way explained - not relatable as in directly relating to what's being described, but relatable as in also wanting to make sense of this subject. I do think it's a shame it isn't being promoted more, so it can do as well as it deserves but mostly just because I'd like to see it being played live or hear the band talking about it on TV!

  42. Holy Cow: The Statues Have Arrived Several cow statues have popped up all over the city this week, with hopes of drawing attention to a cause. Dana Yarger, a Dana Point resident and an ambassador to the Elephant Parade, began looking for a new project to bring to the city. “Since the city had a good support with the elephants, I think the city will engage with the cows,” Yarger said. After gaining the recommendation from the City’s Arts and Culture Commission, the City Council approved of the statues, bringing Cowabunga Dana Point to the city. “We’re happy to be hosting this,” said Assistant City Manager Mike Killebrew. “The City Council has been interested in the art in public places for several years.” The statues will be auctioned off at the end of the summer with proceeds going to Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times. The camp is a program of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California which hosts children diagnosed with cancer and their families. http://www.danapointtimes.com/holy-cow-the-statues-have-arrived/

  43. OK, I played it. It says that the guy created it for his girlfriend. It is pretty stupid, but funny as hell too. When you lose, it pipes in with Billie and the "I've been around since 1988" line.

  44. 21CB is, in my opinion, wildly under appreciated. It's one of my favorite albums of theirs, if not my very favorite. I know American Idiot tells a more linear story, but there's something about 21CB that is truly an EXPERIENCE when listening to it front to back in one sitting. It's diverse, it's fun, and features some really clever writing. The way the album starts off with Christian raging that people need to "know your enemy," only to later realize in Restless Heart Syndrome that he is his own worst enemy? Wow wow wow. The line "You are your own worst enemy...know your enemy" before the guitars kick in gives me chills every time.
