I'm probably in the minority here but I do like the lack of promotion. It's more laid back this time and I really don't mind it. I don't need my music to be advertised like washing powder, tampons or Coca Cola. I'm ok with this being low-key. I think Warner isn't putting so much into promotion in order to avoid another over-hyped flop like Trilogy. If revrad doesn't do very well, it won't look so blatantly like a failure the way Trilogy did, because the way they promote it isn't really promising anything (eg. compare the way they bragged about the Trilogy with the fact that this time they haven't brought out the cliche "this album is our best" at all). My guess is that the video will come out somewhat closer to the release date so BB bounces back.9 points

Actually music very much is a competition. Sales don't directly affect us, but first, being a huge fan, I want to see them do well. But, the record company is concerned with sales and if a record doesn't perform, it could affect a bands standing in the record company. And if you think GD is too big to worry about what the record company thinks, talk to Bon Jovi.5 points

This stuff: you may know it as laundry detergent. (It's a very overly TV-advertised product)4 points

I agree with you about how they started the promotion, they were doing a very good job of social media marketing. However, what you don't want, from a marketing standpoint, is to lose momentum. They were successful very quickly and didn't have any additional promotion to keep that momentum going. It is much easier to stay on top then to try and climb back up. Now it is really too soon to tell, but the lack of promotion after the initial release is surprising. That does not mean the record will not be a success and I'm not saying it won't. I'm simply saying that usually there is a promotion plan after a release to keep the momentum going. Also, what the hell is washing powder?4 points

The Facebook exclusive lyric video says "little man". The YouTube video says "leading man". Since the YouTube video came after, I can only assume the YouTube video is the corrected version with the right lyrics.3 points

I've said it before but I think the song will climb the charts faster after their music video is released and their label actually has something new and exciting to promote Anybody have a clue when that's gonna happen, btw?3 points

Oh c'mon now. Sales matter to us psychologically because we want the music and band we like to be in the spotlight to justify our effort and devotion. Green Day's standing in the record company is not going to change, especially if song doesn't sell well. They're one of the biggest rock bands of the past 25 years, they've sold a ridiculous amount of albums, and they're basically immortal with the Hall of Fame status now. They just released 3 albums that tanked and were out of commission do to Billie's drug addiction, and that did hardly any damage to their status with Warner. Worst comes to worst they release independently or move to the hundreds of other labels that would pick them up in a heartbeat.3 points

I keep thinking that more promotion will happen closer to the albums release..... but of course this begs the question: why have such a big gap between the singles release and the albums release? Apart from the odd selfie on Billies Instagram account (i.e on the set of Bang Bang's video) and the twitter ''takeover'' in which they goofed around for two hours, things seem to have gone a bit flat. Even the bands official twitter and Instagram accounts have hardly posted anything. This photo basically sums up my mood as I wait for something exciting to happen:3 points

It's beautiful...their voices are beautiful. And the best thing about it is that I could listen to it together with my grandma.3 points

He always does that! His eyebrows are so unique, like he doesn't just raise them, they shift in a 100° angle see, normal eyebrows being raised vs. Mike's eyebrows being raised: sorry for the ugly painting2 points

Am I the only one who doesn't give a crap about single sales. Album sales are the important thing to me that indicates whether a band is doing well. I mean singles are important too, but I think the airplay is more important than sales, as that actually gets more people to hear the song2 points
-
Yet another discussion that gets blown out of proportion. I don't think anyone is worried about sales, or GD being dropped, or whatever. The number of views that the lyric video has had proves that the song is doing well despite the lack of promotion. I think the one genuine gripe that people do have is this huge gap between the singles release and the albums release as there is now this dead period that is as flat as a fart where we are waiting for something exciting to happen. But things will happen soon closer to the albums release2 points

Anyone find it weird that Bang Bang really hasn't been promoted? Like after the day it was released, the band hasn't really mentioned it much besides with hash tags in photos. Normally bands would have posted a bunch of times to check out their new song. Regardless, I'm glad it's not doing terrible considering the promotion has been weak2 points

I was walking home from school last year and i heard this piano coming from the house i was walking past. They had a big window that i could glance in from on the sidewalk (sounds creepier than it was) and it was this older lady. I quickly realized she was playing ¡Viva la gloria! I just wanted to shout out loud i was so happy.2 points

Everything in my life circles back around to Green Day. When I was a kid, one of my favorite GD live videos were the footage from Paint Factory '89. I was in love with the echo. Flash forward to 2012, I'm in college and finally get to go to local punk shows like the ones I had watched and dreamed about for 7 years. I became a regular at a famous underground dive bar/venue called the Brass Mug. The scenes were different by then, less punk, more post-hardcore at the time. Now it's all thrash/death metal. No complaints. Well anyway the first time I went there, I stole my moms car and drove 2 hours into the city for the sake of it. It was a really horrible band honestly but what saved the night was my time spent with the old timers at the bar, who told me that they saw Green Day in this venue (but in a different part of town, it's changed locations 3 times now) back when they were my age. Flash forward again to 2015, my boyfriend and I were watching random videos and I pulled up the Star Club vids and he goes "you know this was here right? This is what the Mug was called back then." And to this day I can't believe it. 12 year old me would have never guessed that her favorite video (16 @ Star Club 89) was the same show that her friends would reminisce about 20+ years later. She never thought that she'd be booking local shows at the same venue, being friends with the same owner, and falling in love with someone who was playing on the same stage the night we met (well, not really. I'm sure a different stage was put up or modified by that point but still). And it's all thanks to Green Day. Anyway rant over. Enjoy the video (Green Day Brazil also uploaded a better version of the full show, but it's labeled as 1990 instead)2 points

I'm debating pre-ordering that Bang Bang single. I know as soon as Best Buy opens on 9/23 I'll be going there, but my fear is that they won't have it. #FirstWorldProblems2 points

I've just watched their performance of Hitchin a ride at Goat Island- the one where they shout at the boat behind them- and I'm crying with laughter2 points

Was at a bar on the beach last night listening to a bunch of lame stuff (they usually only play reggae or "island" music everywhere in Hawaii) suddenly East Jesus Nowhere came on and they blasted it. It was awesome.2 points

Just googled 'Mike Dirnt eyebrows'. They're a good set of eyebrows, but I wouldn't say they stand out as a defining feature1 point

what, they're amazing! pay attention to them, there's so much expression...1 point

Yeah, I wish they would do at least a few promotional shows and TV appearances during Sepember. I suppose this will be a part of 'second leg' of the promo together with the music video/second single. You're right about this. They are keeping it low now...They really should get out and play bb live to keep the song going now, that's the least they can do. Do you have a different word for it or you don't have laundry in the US?1 point

I sometimes do that too!! I actually did think it was 'fucking' the first few times I heard the song until I read the lyric book and realised it was flunkie And it's been nearly three weeks and I'm still singing 'I got my vol au vent' instead of 'I got my photobomb' during Bang Bang1 point

Well, I heard Holiday playing in this random gas station in North Carolina that was filled with these old hill billy's who were buying beers and donuts at the register. Then I heard it in the women's bathroom playing Boulevard of Broken Dreams....it actually helped relieve my constipation! Actually no...I was just washing my hands.1 point
