I think taken out of context, without the explanation of why he thinks Trump is like Hitler (which he explains when talking about his supporters), it just sounds like a brash statement. And that's exactly what the media outlets were trying to make it out to be, which sucks – some articles even used pics of him looking squinty/off from an event where there were plenty of nice images to choose from, which didn't go unnoticed by me. The media was spinning it into something it wasn't, and I believe him when he says he doesn't want to add to the fear and anger this election has created. I think that's why he get the need to soften what was said a bit. I've really enjoyed what he has had to say about this election, actually. That feeling of optimism from how far Bernie got and how younger people are getting more politically involved is a sentiment I definitely share. Sometimes it hits me that outsiders have a very different perspective of him then fans do. They see certain things and hear certain quotes. They don't know this is a man who also spends his time creating an Instagram for his dog and putting commentary on cat videos.3 points

I'm totally on the same page as Billie with those comments–I've made similar comments myself, honestly. No, Trump isn't committing genocide. But he's taking advantage of people who feel their voice isn't heard and is turning fear into hatred. Billie backed up his point and I think it's completely valid.3 points

What BJ said actually made sense (can't we just appreciate this fact? :P) I kind of think it's bs to expect a group of conservative people to accept his opinion. Groups of people who share same views tend to assure itself about being right and aren't likely to collectively question whether their beliefs are flawed or not when someone comes up and begs to differ - they are more likely to write off differing opinions. And proving that the minority/disagreeing person is not only wrong opinion-wise but a complete waste of human flesh is a common mechanism. One person goes: don't listen to him, he's unqualified, someone else goes: you can't play violin, your opinion is invalid!!! Etc etc. That's the way it works. Most people surround themselves with people who agree with them, especially online. That makes emotions grow stronger when it comes to disagreements.3 points

That's disappointing to hear. It seems like most fans have viewed the song as a great comeback song for them. It's fast, it's loud, it's the exact opposite of a lot of the stuff on the trilogy. We can agree on the lyrics. I don't mind them, they fit the song, but they could have been better. I'm curious what you're comparing it to that you'd consider it a "bad album track". For me, it's one of the best songs they've had since Horseshoes & Handgrenades. I appreciate that it doesn't sound exactly like any other Green Day song, but still familiar, and I appreciate that it has a message behind it.2 points

It's impossible for me to listen to this song and not make my fists into guns and shoot the air for the "Bang, bang" line.2 points

I mean, there is a possible reference to the feeling of entitlement to sex leading to violence ("give me death or give me head", inspired by the Elliot Rodger case maybe) which is an example of a culture that promotes certain things as being expected or owed as part of being male being harmful. But it's really a stretch to make out the song is condemning men from that, like you said it's looking at how many different factors can combine to cause someone to commit violence and isn't about condemning a group or placing the blame in one place, and about media sensationalism more than anything.2 points

Is there an ending guitar fade on the beggining of the song (kinda like Holiday/BOBD) or am I completely crazy? Also I was wondering how I thought Bang Bang was a terrible title but I ended up loving it after listening to the song for this past few weeks. Maybe the other plausible title would be Celebrity Martyr but Bang Bang sounds amazing to me now2 points

I've seen people say BJ should shut up if his history knowledge only goes as far as Hitler. Which is fucking stupid, because he was completely right in that interview, and that comparison is very much on point. Seems like some people need to educate themselves more about the Second Reich and volksgemeinschaft. It's a little upsetting that he had to draw back and make a milder comparison, I wish he stood his ground, but I suppose anything to make the people understand. And they still won't.2 points

I think Beej was drawing upon comparisons to post-WWI, pre-WW2 Hitler. A man who loved his country, and saw that many Germans (who were recently bitch-slapped by WWI) were in need of a leader who restored a sense of pride to his countrymen. Much like what Trump and his followers post-9/11 are currently experiencing. It was very easy for Germans to get caught up in all the propaganda, they didn't even realize what was happening before it was too late. My family that lived there at the time were terrified once they realized that anything they said could be misinterpreted and have them killed. They had to watch neighbors who were not "real Germans" be dragged away and they couldn't say anything against it for fear of being labeled as sympathizers. Anyway, I think Billie kind of sees this happening in the States as well, where anyone with dark skin and dark eyes are labeled as terrorists, and standing up for them makes you un-American and on "their side". By building a wall, by excessively killing people of color, by condemning a group of people based on their religion.....all in the name of restoring a country to its former glory.....that is very Hitler-esque. Anyone with an education will be able to see these comparisons without letting personal bias interfere. Trump, as well as Hitler, did not originally have such crazy intentions. They were just in love with who they were, and where they came from, and wanted to share this pride with their fellow citizens. There are going to be radicals of any ideology, be it far-right or far-left. The Nazis were just a reflection of what could happen when a particular party begins to snowball.2 points

Hugely underrated/overhated song. Really nice little bass riff and quite a fun song. People take it too seriously I think.2 points

My take on it was possibly it was a shooter testifying in court (obviously following the act) and as he is testifying he is reliving the memory of the event and enjoying it like a lullaby to send him off to sleep. Especially as the next line is "broadcasting live and it's on my radio", which makes me think of trials that are broadcast live, giving the shooter more fame which is evidently something he desperately craves to begin with. Then the "and it's on my radio" part could refer to the shooter having a radio in prison and hearing the trial being reported about on said radio and therefore knowing he has reached notoriety. Just my thoughts anyway1 point

Man if you have Tumblr you should post this on there. Everyone's talking about that Kerrang! Stuff on there.1 point

For a while it would confuse me because how Lazy Bones ended. Messed with my head making me ask myself "How long have I been listening to Wild One?" even though it just started. Although I do like Wild One1 point

The times have changed. Back in the mid-2000's, GD, U2 and Coldplay (back when they put out rock albums) ruled the charts. Now, dance and hip hop-infused alternative rule the charts because it caters to the masses. A music video will certainly help, though I agree that Bang Bang has less of a head start than Bored to Death had. I can't think of many recent hits without a music video. It will certainly help boost chart positions and sales.1 point

Do songs normally do well without a music video circulating? I'm assuming exposure on the music channels will give it a boost once it's out.1 point

And you liked this song before. +people thought more of it as an bad song rather than a bad single, they just didn't think the question too far cause they didn't like the song as much as this one. Also Oh Love was way more heavily promoted and also it kinda rided on the successs of 21stcb (like the whole trilogy did). I mean after the commercial disaster trilogy, It was pretty obvious that this one wasn't going to do so well at the beginning like Oh Love.1 point

I can't make my mind up about the trilogy. Initially when it was released I loved it but overtime I thought I had accepted that it just wasn't the bands best work. But right know I'm drinking at home waiting for the McGregor Fight at UFC202 and have a playlist of green day songs playing while I wait. To my own amazement most of the songs are trilogy songs. Maybe I just need some drink onboard to really appreciate them1 point

THANK YOU. This is exactly what I've been saying the entire time, only you've put it more eloquently. Billie is just speaking up about his worries and you can't really roast him for that, especially when his worries are justified. Trump and Pre-WW2-Hitler share a lot of similarities, and it's not wrong to compare them.1 point

I read through the FB comments under his last insta post, just because I never say no to an entertaining flame. Sometimes it was hard to say who was trolling and who wasn't. I must say that I'm glad he posted his clarification because tbh, the headline sounded lame as hell. What he actually said Trump in the interview made sense and it wasn't extreme by any means. There is this kind of people who can't stand different opinions. I really hate to say so, but this trait usually correlates with being dumb. It's not nice to get bashed by this kind of internet users, and it's not nice to watch them talk shit about others but it doesn't matter much. Reacting to a perfectly normal opinions you happen to disagree with hatespeech and degrading opponents indicates lack of arguments. No point in discussing, no point in sweating it too much. Your opinion sucks because I don't like you is a 4-year-old's logic.1 point

I get what you mean by that, it's a happy sounding chorus for a dark theme. But I think they've done that on purpose; this song is from the perspective of the shooter, so while it may be dark to an onlooker, the jubilant tone actually serves to make it even darker. This guy's having all these thoughts about this horrible stuff, yet he's happy about it. That really emphasises the twisted mentality of a mass shooter.1 point

Well I don't think he forced Fuck Time since that was written before the trilogy for Foxboro Hot Tubs1 point

Everyone has different "favourite songs" off the trilogy. That's why a single album would've been a terrible idea.1 point

Am I the only one that didn't want the trilogy to be a single album with the "best songs"? Listening to the entire trilogy for the first time was a hell of a ride. I was pretty satisfied with all that sweet sweet Green Day greatness.1 point
