  3. I think taken out of context, without the explanation of why he thinks Trump is like Hitler (which he explains when talking about his supporters), it just sounds like a brash statement. And that's exactly what the media outlets were trying to make it out to be, which sucks – some articles even used pics of him looking squinty/off from an event where there were plenty of nice images to choose from, which didn't go unnoticed by me. The media was spinning it into something it wasn't, and I believe him when he says he doesn't want to add to the fear and anger this election has created. I think that's why he get the need to soften what was said a bit. I've really enjoyed what he has had to say about this election, actually. That feeling of optimism from how far Bernie got and how younger people are getting more politically involved is a sentiment I definitely share. Sometimes it hits me that outsiders have a very different perspective of him then fans do. They see certain things and hear certain quotes. They don't know this is a man who also spends his time creating an Instagram for his dog and putting commentary on cat videos.

  4. I'm totally on the same page as Billie with those comments–I've made similar comments myself, honestly. No, Trump isn't committing genocide. But he's taking advantage of people who feel their voice isn't heard and is turning fear into hatred. Billie backed up his point and I think it's completely valid.

  5. What BJ said actually made sense (can't we just appreciate this fact? :P) I kind of think it's bs to expect a group of conservative people to accept his opinion. Groups of people who share same views tend to assure itself about being right and aren't likely to collectively question whether their beliefs are flawed or not when someone comes up and begs to differ - they are more likely to write off differing opinions. And proving that the minority/disagreeing person is not only wrong opinion-wise but a complete waste of human flesh is a common mechanism. One person goes: don't listen to him, he's unqualified, someone else goes: you can't play violin, your opinion is invalid!!! Etc etc. That's the way it works. Most people surround themselves with people who agree with them, especially online. That makes emotions grow stronger when it comes to disagreements.

  7. That's disappointing to hear. It seems like most fans have viewed the song as a great comeback song for them. It's fast, it's loud, it's the exact opposite of a lot of the stuff on the trilogy. We can agree on the lyrics. I don't mind them, they fit the song, but they could have been better. I'm curious what you're comparing it to that you'd consider it a "bad album track". For me, it's one of the best songs they've had since Horseshoes & Handgrenades. I appreciate that it doesn't sound exactly like any other Green Day song, but still familiar, and I appreciate that it has a message behind it.

  10. I mean, there is a possible reference to the feeling of entitlement to sex leading to violence ("give me death or give me head", inspired by the Elliot Rodger case maybe) which is an example of a culture that promotes certain things as being expected or owed as part of being male being harmful. But it's really a stretch to make out the song is condemning men from that, like you said it's looking at how many different factors can combine to cause someone to commit violence and isn't about condemning a group or placing the blame in one place, and about media sensationalism more than anything.

  11. Is there an ending guitar fade on the beggining of the song (kinda like Holiday/BOBD) or am I completely crazy? Also I was wondering how I thought Bang Bang was a terrible title but I ended up loving it after listening to the song for this past few weeks. Maybe the other plausible title would be Celebrity Martyr but Bang Bang sounds amazing to me now

  12. I've seen people say BJ should shut up if his history knowledge only goes as far as Hitler. Which is fucking stupid, because he was completely right in that interview, and that comparison is very much on point. Seems like some people need to educate themselves more about the Second Reich and volksgemeinschaft. It's a little upsetting that he had to draw back and make a milder comparison, I wish he stood his ground, but I suppose anything to make the people understand. And they still won't.

  13. I think Beej was drawing upon comparisons to post-WWI, pre-WW2 Hitler. A man who loved his country, and saw that many Germans (who were recently bitch-slapped by WWI) were in need of a leader who restored a sense of pride to his countrymen. Much like what Trump and his followers post-9/11 are currently experiencing. It was very easy for Germans to get caught up in all the propaganda, they didn't even realize what was happening before it was too late. My family that lived there at the time were terrified once they realized that anything they said could be misinterpreted and have them killed. They had to watch neighbors who were not "real Germans" be dragged away and they couldn't say anything against it for fear of being labeled as sympathizers. Anyway, I think Billie kind of sees this happening in the States as well, where anyone with dark skin and dark eyes are labeled as terrorists, and standing up for them makes you un-American and on "their side". By building a wall, by excessively killing people of color, by condemning a group of people based on their religion.....all in the name of restoring a country to its former glory.....that is very Hitler-esque. Anyone with an education will be able to see these comparisons without letting personal bias interfere. Trump, as well as Hitler, did not originally have such crazy intentions. They were just in love with who they were, and where they came from, and wanted to share this pride with their fellow citizens. There are going to be radicals of any ideology, be it far-right or far-left. The Nazis were just a reflection of what could happen when a particular party begins to snowball.

  19. Bang Bang has done well in the rock charts because rock fans know the song has been released, but it isn't doing well in the mainstream charts because rap/dance/RnB are getting more airplay. This isn't a problem that only GD have as I see that the 1st single from the new RHCP album only got to #72 in the UK singles chart. Around the time that AI came out a lot of rock bands were doing well in the mainstream chart.....it sucks that kids are listening to the shite that is in the charts nowadays As for the video, I was expecting them to have put it out by now. As much as I like the lyric video- there are only so many times you can watch a lyric video. Hopefully music channels will actually bother play the music video when they receive it.

  22. Easy. No one hates Supernatural more than Supernatural fans And yeah, many people have tried to get into that head space, of course: Writers, actors, psychologists, detectives, special ops.....in the end, the only one who really knows is the people who do it. Though behavioral psychology has come a long way in attempting to describe it and detect warning signs. That being said, even the most docile person can be pushed to murder under the right circumstances....mass shooters are no different in that regard--they don't just wake up one day and decide to kill a bunch of people--but the pathology is often much more complicated and sinister than one person killing another person in the heat of the moment.

  26. Haha! How'd you guess? I actually agree with you in that it's more of a satire piece than a real analysis of a shooter POV. The lyrics aren't rational, nor do they attempt to justify or even explore that viewpoint (because how can they really.) It's full of sarcasm and mocking of what a shooter might be thinking. And a lot of it doesn't make sense because who the fuck can make sense of something like that?

  28. Finally got my copy of Kerrang today and had the chance to read it properly rather than squinting at the pics on the Kerrang thread and read that Billie got the inspiration for the song from the shooter (Elliot Rodgers) in San Diego in 2014 which I actually found many of the lyrics fit perfectly with/reminded me of before he had said that. I watched a documentary on the guy and it was scary as hell. His mentality and the way he documented his behaviour and ideas on social media both in YouTube videos and in a detailed blog "broadcasting from my room" and his obsession with guns "playing with my toys". As it transpired in the case of Rodgers police had searched his apartment a week before the mass shooting looking for guns as his parents had been concerned but the police did not search Rodgers bedroom hence failed to find the weapons later used in the attack. Also his entire reason for killing people was because he couldn't get girls "give me death or give me head" and he also craved attention "I wanna be a celebrity martyr". I guess given the intro with the various news reports the song grew to be about the wider culture of mass shootings not just one case and that would account for lines like "I testify like a lullaby of memories, Broadcasting live and it's on my radio". To me that sounds like a shooter testifying at trial and the memory of the shooting is like a lullaby for him and while it's being broadcast live, giving him more "fame" which is what he so desperately seeks it's on his radio in his cell in prison. My favourite line though is "I got my photo bomb, I got my Vietnam" It's just so screwed up like oh well, you're all dead but I got my photo op and my chance at playing soldier or zombie apocalypse for thirty minutes. And you know that there are people out there that have thought and do think like this and scarier yet they have access to weapons. Anyway I really love the lyrics. So brilliant. So many clever references and metaphors. Sorry for the long post

  32. I get what you mean by that, it's a happy sounding chorus for a dark theme. But I think they've done that on purpose; this song is from the perspective of the shooter, so while it may be dark to an onlooker, the jubilant tone actually serves to make it even darker. This guy's having all these thoughts about this horrible stuff, yet he's happy about it. That really emphasises the twisted mentality of a mass shooter.

  35. If you're going to make a double album, you may as well just say "fuck it" and release a triple album like they did. There's really no point on saying stuff like "They should've released a single album with these songs", they did what they have to and I'm glad.

  44. It only really struck me yesterday how incredible the lyrics of Jesus Of Suburbia are. Obviously loads of people love the "home is where the heart is" line, but every single verse speaks to me on some level. For a song with so many lines to be so consistently great lyrically is just mindblowing. There's just so much that seems to get overlooked due to its length. Plus the craftsmanship in putting so many "soundbite" type lines together and making it not seem over the top is admirable.
