And my itunes playlist is at 193 and that doesn't count the times I've watched the video. I kind of like the song.4 points

I re-watched Quatro yesterday after reading the new Kerrang-interview, and somehow it made me sad. I've always liked the trilogy, at least most parts of it, and some songs even turned into some of my favourites (e.g.Brutal Love, Lazy Bones, DRB, X-Kid). But watching Quatro just made it so obvious that they tried so hard to turn the trilogy into something it never became. It was supposed to be a relief from the heaviness of AI and 21CBD, but eventually turned out to be a burden. I mean, everything that could go wrong went wrong, and that's not only because of Billie's iHeartRadio meltdown. Something felt wrong from the very start when they announced those three albums. I loved their idea of playing new songs in small clubs, like a young band that has to convince the audience and find itself (they describe it like this in Quatro). But something went very wrong there, too, the pressure and the expectations were too high. A burden, again. Remember when in one of their clubs shows from 2011 fans demanded old GD songs, and Billie said something like: "No, we're only playing new stuff. Forget the past, think about now and think about the future, that's all you have to care about." And now in the Kerrang interview, they say that this was exactly the thing they had never done, although they needed it so badly: pausing for a moment and looking back instead of always running straightforward, faster and faster. Maybe my emotions get mixed up a little because when the trilogy came out, I went through a very tough time, I was severely sick back then. So I think listening to trilogy-songs will always leave a slightly bad taste in my mouth, maybe because of my personal experience, maybe because of the trilogy-release that turned into a nightmare, or maybe both. But we have something to look forward to now, and I feel like it's something big Still hoping the setlist will contain some trilogy-songs; Brutal Love is a killer live and I also loved Oh Love and Let Yourself Go on their 2013 tour Sorry if this was a bit confusing. Just had a feeling that it had to come out.4 points

Hugely underrated/overhated song. Really nice little bass riff and quite a fun song. People take it too seriously I think.3 points

CDs are lossless, the reason the HDtracks versions sound better is because they're a different master that's less squashed and compressed.3 points

I agree, I'm experiencing the same thing right now- I was afraid I'd get sick of it, but it's getting better with each play. And I think I've listened to it over 50 times. They throw so much at you throughout the song. I love how they structured it, and the musicianship is top notch. I could probably listen to Tre's drum solo for 10 hours straight and not get bored. I keep comparing this with KYE- I wasn't able to listen to that one more than a few times without it getting repetitive. I knew right away that KYE was a 3 out of 10 as far as GD songs go. This one is a 9.5 and I am convinced I'll still feel that way 10 years from now. Great recommendation, I will absolutely check out that format. Glad you're back and adding value as always! This will be great for the re-listening of previous albums while we wait for RevRad to come out. This single is going to do very well. I usually don't care at all about chart performance, but in this case I am so happy for the band to see this unfolding with BB- I don't think it will be AI huge, but it is going to be one of the biggest rock tracks of the year. I could feel this coming when my semi-fan friends started texting me about their excitement over the song; these are the types of folks that really got into AI and Dookie but not much else. It's a bit of a leap since we haven't heard any of the other tracks, but based on early feedback about the album (Kerrang had some incredibly positive things to say), I think RevRad is going to be a big one. Again, not AI/ Dookie success- that's a high bar, and I believe the music landscape has changed too much to allow a repeat of that type of mainstream reception- but I fully expect this to be the rock album of the year. No pressure guys!3 points

Sounds like it comes later, as they mentioned that this is the highest debut in a year.3 points

21CB is, in my opinion, wildly under appreciated. It's one of my favorite albums of theirs, if not my very favorite. I know American Idiot tells a more linear story, but there's something about 21CB that is truly an EXPERIENCE when listening to it front to back in one sitting. It's diverse, it's fun, and features some really clever writing. The way the album starts off with Christian raging that people need to "know your enemy," only to later realize in Restless Heart Syndrome that he is his own worst enemy? Wow wow wow. The line "You are your own worst enemy...know your enemy" before the guitars kick in gives me chills every time.3 points

And your opinion is fine, but it's still your opinion. I prefer the AI/21CB era because it just sounded like a more ambitious, natural evolution of the band and the harmonies and instruments sounded incredible.3 points

I'll quote myself from your status update: "Dude, when he said "Shame you guys don't like it", he didn't mean people should be ashamed for not liking it. He just likes the song, and finds it unfortunate people don't feel the same way."2 points
-
Speaking up for it is fine, but telling people they should be ashamed for not liking it is not. All I can say is I've never given you shit for liking rap and if someone was in this thread and I saw it I'd be talking to them in disappointment right now. It goes both ways.2 points

Sweet 16 is definitely one of my favorites from that album, and pretty overlooked. I really like the story behind it, describing going back to your roots, remembering sleeping on the floor in random places and people's houses. Billie mentioned in the Nobody Likes You book that that's all they did during 1029/kerplunk, while they were playing shows outside Rodeo. But that they also made a lot of lifelong friends doing that. I agree. When I first heard it, I liked it because it was completely different. Plus, the bass in that song is badass.2 points

I've only listened to it about 5 times. I don't want it to get overplayed by the time the album comes out. I may not listen to the second single at all - it bugs me that I already know two songs out of 12. No need for more. Holy fuck! You average at 92 minutes of Bang Bang a day Damn, off to listen to Jinx2 points

I'm only at 117, I feel like a slacker. But I watched the video many many other times before I managed to get ahold of it on iTunes, so.2 points

I'm on 216! It's an alright song I guess. Not too fussed. Was trying to think what Nimrod song the guitar in Bang Bang sounds like and just realised, it's Jinx!2 points

I feel the same way. My mom got very sick right around the time the trilogy came out, and it was a pretty difficult time for me. Between my personal issues and the band's issues that came to light, I was a bit of a mess (and I'm not a messy person in general, lol). I think it was particularly hard because Green Day had ALWAYS been there for me when I was going through a hard time, and this time, when I needed them the most, they were only adding to my stress and worry. I know this sounds silly and selfish to say, but at the time I think I resented them a bit for making my life even darker when they were supposed to be my bright spot. But in the end, I learned that I needed to work more on creating my own happiness and drawing strength from within, which at 19 is indeed important to realize. It's difficult for me to divorce everything I was feeling at that time from the songs themselves. And yet, Brutal Love is in my mind one of the best songs they've ever written. I know it's probably not a time they want to revisit too much, but I do hope they hang on to some of the highlights, because there are some spectacular gems in there.2 points

Green Day's "Bang Bang" may reach alternative radio's Top 10 in just its second week (and first full week) of availability. Despite launching late in the tracking period, Green Day’s “Bang Bang” debuted at #17 on last week’s Mediabase alternative airplay chart. It may reach the Top 10 this week. The new single received 521 spins during the first two days of the August 14-20 tracking period. The count positions “Bang Bang” at #9 on Mediabase’s building chart. Because the week is still young — and because airplay for new songs can be erratic — one cannot yet guarantee “Bang Bang” will reach the Top 10. What one can say with certainty, however, is that alternative radio is expressing significant early interest in the single. http://headlineplanet.com/home/2016/08/16/green-days-bang-bang-trending-top-10-alternative-radio/2 points

One thing that helps a bit is FLAC if you have players that support it. Less compression than CD/AAC/MP3, you can play it louder, and you get a slightly richer sound out of it (hell, even Horseshoes & Handgrenades kicks up a half-notch when you listen to its FLAC copy). American Idiot, 21st CB, and the Trilogy are all available on FLAC and you can bet your ass I'll buy RevRad when it's released in that format. P.S. Thanks to Matt for introducing me to that format.2 points

it's fine it ain't that serious, watch fuck the trilogy see? Everyone can have fun1 point

ACTUALLY, the real 'rawness' can only be heard on the first two records, which was also result of low budget the band had at the time. Dookie was polished, and so were the next albums from that point on. There will always be purists, which is totally ok, but there are also a lot of assholes among them, who are just babbling about the same fucking thing all the time, whose 'arguments' can't really be taken seriously if you look at them from a logical and wider, objective point of view (which avoids personal favorism of albums). Also, a lot of these fans who preach 'rawness' and first records, became fans maybe a couple of years ago, whose first GD music they heard was trilogy or Breakdown. I guess some of them have a complex of sort, so they need to prove their 'real' fan status to I don't even know who, by saying old school music is better than new or whatever. I don't know, it's really dumb and pointless. Also, at least some musical and producing knowledge would be desirable in pointless shit talk about term that doesn't exist - overproduced.1 point

At this point, I can't believe his serious. Must be trolling or something. I mean, I love early Green Day. Paper Lanterns, 80, 1000 Hours.. those are my jams, but it's a fact that the quality in AI and 21CB (and at some stages, even the trilogy) it's far better than those early releases. In every aspect.1 point

I'm limiting the times of play of this song, don't wanna get tired of it just yet. Today I listened to it twice. Done for the day.1 point

I think the trilogy started out very successfully, but then after the iHeart incident things started to fall apart, promotion wise. And Oh Love is still more radio friendly than the other singles, I guess that's why.1 point

Only time I've seen Look For Love go for over $1000 was when it was signed by Billie Joe! Normally they go for about $500. As for Laytonville records, it's only the coloured ones that are normally the high end price.1 point

Florence Welch on Covering Green Day It's hard to imagine, but you were really into skate punk. The first CD I ever bought was Green Day's Dookie. It was my first clue that there could be a whole identity around the music you liked. I had the shoes and the world's baggiest cords. The only thing I didn't have was a skateboard. You even recorded a complete cover of Green Day's Nimrod a few years ago. I was going to see punk bands, and [producer-artist] Dev Hynes and I bonded. We were talking about how we loved Nimrod, and we recorded it in his kitchen with just his guitar. It's out there on the Internet! Later, I met Billie Joe Armstrong, and he told me he liked it. My 13-year-old self's head was exploding somewhere in the past. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/florence-welch-talks-covering-green-day-quitting-drinking-201605111 point
