Exactly. I get excited every time I see a Green Day shirt. I don't care how big of a fan they are, I just like that they're enough of a fan to wear a shirt. I'll talk to anyone in person about Green Day, even if it's just about Boulevard of Broken Dreams.5 points

Same, even if it's just both agreeing that Green Day are cool it's great! Wouldn't cross my mind to try and test how big a fan they are.4 points

This confirms my theory that Trilogy caused very little harm to their reputation outside gdc3 points

I can see both sides to it, on one hand it's always cool to see people liking Green Day to any degree but it is annoying when someone turns out to not actually be as much a fan as you'd think, like I was wearing one of my GD shirts at uni once and someone came up to me saying they were a fan too, I asked them what they thought of the Trilogy and they had no idea what I was talking about, I explained and they said they only really knew the old classics like American Idiot and 21 Guns.3 points

The only harm the trilogy did to green days reputation was make all of reddit think they are sell outs. Mainly because reddit has nothing better to do than to critique every little thing about the universe. Outside that you are totally right.2 points

He sang it all the way through in Brixton, Reading and Leeds in 2013 when they played Dookie in full: I think the last time without playing Dookie in full was Costa Rica (not 100% sure about that, may be wrong)1 point

That might be less rare than people wearing T-shirts withought being fans. I met like 4 people in gd t-shirts in all my life. Two of them were diehard fans.1 point

I guess it's not going to lead to as long a conversation. I'd still consider a bit of Green Day chit chat before moving on to something else or ending a conversation to be a good thing though, better than nothing.1 point

Them knowing very little doesn't really lend itself to conversation though, with people who aren't fans at all it's easy because I can just avoid the subject entirely but with people who know a small amount trying to talk to them usually just ends up with conversation trailing into nothing fairly quickly because I run out of things to say on such a small scope.1 point

There's nothing actually wrong with just being a casual fan, it's just annoying to see someone and think "great, someone I can talk to about music" and then find you actually can't.1 point

I know this is probably impractical but go with me on this. I think they should play one album of their 11 (soon to be 12) in its entirety every night. They would pick randomly for every show and never repeat an album till they've played all 12. This album portion of the show would come in the middle of the overall set. When the chosen showcase album is played it is played much like they did Dookie at the Reading festival, meaning its played straight through with little time between songs and no "extensions" to the songs (hey-ohs etc...) This way at the very most it will take up an hour and 15 min (21CB) but averaging really only around 45 min for most of the other albums. By doing this you take care of all the singles from a particular album within the album section of the set. (Great for Dookie and American Idiot fans) That would leave two big set chunks (The opening set, before the album portion and obviously after the album portion) of probably 7-10 songs where they could plug in all the other popular songs that weren't on that particular nights album or any other random songs they might be feeling. Before and after the "album portion" those songs can have the traditional Billie Joe theatrics we've come to know and love. I know what your thinking what if I'm unlucky and get one of the Trilogy albums on my show? Too bad I say. There has to be some songs you like buried on each album. So allow me to try to make a mock set list using this concept. I'll build it around "Tre" (Shudder) and also add the new album in there. So I will mark slots with New Song since we don't know the names yet 1. Bang Bang 2. Stay The Night 3. Know Your Enemy 4. Letterbomb 5. New Song 6. St. Jimmy 7. 2000 Light Years Away 8. New Song 9. Hitchin A Ride 10. Basket Case 11. Brutal Love 12. Missing You 13. 8th Ave Serenade 14. Drama Queen 15. X-Kid 16. Sex Drugs & Violence 17. Little Boy Named Train 18. Amanda 19. Walk Away 20. Dirty Rotten Bastards 21. 99 Revolution (radios) 22. The Forgotten 23. Welcome To Paradise 24. Brain Stew/Jaded (no random cover mash ups here please and thank you) 25. Geek Stink Breath 26. Castaway 27. 21 Guns 28. When I Come Around 29. She 30. Waiting 31. Minority Encore: 32. 21st Century Breakdown 33. American Idiot 34. Jesus Of Suburbia Encore 2: 35. Wake Me Up When September Ends 36. Good Riddance. I know that seems like a lot of songs, but remember the album portion will be played straight through so you can round Tre up to about a little over 50 min of actual stage time spent playing the album.1 point

Maria is a fucking awesome song. Also I've just discovered the awesomeness of using YouTube to play Green Day at 1.25 speed, it's so fucking cool.1 point

Even if they do only know one song maybe they're wearing it because they like it and will later get into more of their songs. I don't get being bothered if someone is wearing a t shirt with the name of a band on it even if they've never heard of them. Doesn't affect your life in any way and just means the band came up with a cool logo/name that people like.1 point
