  1. I remember once arguing with some of you over here that whether Whatsername is a dull song. I wonder why I thought so negative about it? So I must take my words back and agree that it is one of the best songs from AI that really sends chills inside and yeah, IT IS a powerful song with great music and lyrics!

  6. Listening to Insomniac (again, it's been at least once a day all week) I've just really noticed Tre's cymbal work in Jaded, it's so cool. And now Westbound Sign too, I can't un-hear it now.

  8. Maria is a fucking awesome song. Also I've just discovered the awesomeness of using YouTube to play Green Day at 1.25 speed, it's so fucking cool.

  9. Agreed. And yeah sadly I think 99 Revolutions is the only one that's particularly likely to stay. Hoping they'll keep doing Brutal Love before Good Riddance at least occasionally though.

  10. To me, it's one of their best songs, period. Everything about it is perfection, especially Billie Joe's vocals. He delivers those beautiful lyrics from his heart.

  12. Interview on June 28, 2015 Show with Jason Freese of Green Day on TNN Radio in Laguna Beach, CA starts with Green Day songs at 58:27 interview starts at 70:24 - interesting interview about the band touring. http://www.kx935.com/podcasts/june-28-2015-show-with-jason-freese-of-green-day/

  14. I like quizzes! I was also amused by the last one. The very high scores on most of them indicate it must be mostly Green Day fans doing it, which makes me feel sad about the lack of Redundant knowledge (the terrible At the Library scores were less surprising)

  16. Yeah but they did talk about his other work as well. He would be most well known for GD though - I enjoyed the interview.

  18. Wait, so you guys are gonna let this thread just fucking die? One of the funniest creations that I need made into a coffee table book for my own amusement? Not on my watch! BUMP TO THE FUCKING TOP! EDIT: Well WTF, right on page 100. It was on page 99 of the thread, I thought it was on 99 of the lot of threads. Oops. Still has been a while. It's pure hilarity. Even the title of the thread is ridiculous, like my frame of mind when it was started. Don't worry, I'm clean as a whistle now. A dirty rusty whistle, but it's a whistle none-the-less.

  22. A lot of people say that they don't like the lyrics of the trilogy because they're about sex (cringe) and they're flat... But I beg to differ. I mean, wasn't that the point of the trilogy?, just making a bunch of fresh songs that are mostly just for fun because they were tired of making albums like AI and 21CB. And it's not like they were senseless sex tension songs, like even the silly ones like Troublemaker and Fuck Time are so well made that it's just fun to listen and sing along to, I think that's pretty awesome, that they managed to make songs about fucking withouth being cringy and feeling like they were in a midlife crisis like tons of peole claim. And even though the trilogy was all about just making fun songs, they managed to come up with songs like Brutal Love, Lazy Bones and X-Kid.

  23. Yeah I'm pretty (bloody) sure. I remember debating it on here but on listening to it more closely you can hear it's "but it's". And listening to the musical version confirms it I was devastated to find this out

  24. I don't think Billie wants to perform X-Kid live due to personal reasons. Walk Away and Stay the Night are better bets IMO

  25. Agreed, 21CB is an amazing opener. I guess we might get Brutal Love or X-Kid, but I don't think any of the Dos tracks will be played again outside of a FBHT gig.

  26. I'd also love that! Especially 8th Ave Serenade, hidden gem of a song.

  27. Oh yes, to me the line sounds like "Actually, are you bumming around, yeah you're crying on Michael Jordan" And speaking of Dos, although I know it says "You make me feel like I'm at home" in Stop When the Red Lights Flash, I choose to believe it says "You make me feel like I'm not old" because it sounds like it and I prefer it . Similarly to how I still pretend it says "it's pretty bloody sad" in Favourite Son despite now knowing it's really just "but it's", because whether it really says it or not it's literally the best thing about the song.

  28. Speaking of "Ashley," I'll never be able to unhear "crying on Michael Jordan" instead of "crying on my cold shoulder"

  31. Didn't realise this thread had been inactive for several months, outrageous. Still one of the most long lived and successful threads in GD Chat history! Anyway since my mum heard Ashley and mistook "Ashley" for "actually" that's all I can hear.

  32. Even if they do only know one song maybe they're wearing it because they like it and will later get into more of their songs. I don't get being bothered if someone is wearing a t shirt with the name of a band on it even if they've never heard of them. Doesn't affect your life in any way and just means the band came up with a cool logo/name that people like.

  33. There was soundcheck audio, but it was lost over time. If you go to the show's orignal 2009 thread and PM some people that had it, maybe since all the older members are coming back now, you could have some luck and find someone that still has it Here's the download thread where you can find the other part of the soundcheck and there should be a link to the original thread in there

  36. I think they will play some, but there will be significantly less set time devoted to them than during the 99 Revolutions tour. I don't think Billie will play X-Kid. He doesn't like to perform 'personal' songs like WMUWSE (toward the end of AAS they never played it fully), Lazy Bones (only once played live during a secret gig pre-release) and X-Kid. Personally nor musically was the Trilogy-era an apex for them, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Oh Love, Carpe Diem and Stray Heart bite the dust. Stay the Night will stay I think, but only time will tell.

  38. Quiz! Complete The Green Day Lyrics With a new Green Day single, 'Bang Bang', set to be released on August 11th, Billie Joe and the boys are back, back, back. Amazingly, the group first formed 30 years ago in 1986, and in their three decades they've masterminded snot-nosed punk classics (1994's 'Dookie'), a state-of-the-nation concept album (2004's 'American Idiot'), a side project (The Foxboro Hot Tubs) a stage musical (2010's American Idiot) and an ambitious trio of albums (2012's '¡Uno!', '¡Dos!', and '¡Tré!'). Oh, and they also had a starring cameo in The Simpsons Movie. http://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/complete-the-lyrics-quiz-green-day 15 '90s Song Lyrics You Sang All The Time (Even Though You Had No Idea What They Meant) 7. "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" by Green Day Every high school student in the '90s and early '00s played this song as a sign off to their friends during senior year, Bustle noted that the song was actually about getting dumped. https://www.romper.com/p/15-90s-song-lyrics-you-sang-all-the-time-even-though-you-had-no-idea-what-they-meant-15451 Popular music and the loss of anger “Every single era has had escapist music: In the 1950s, there was the pop that came after Little Richard,” says Billie Joe Armstrong, singer and songwriter of Green Day, arguably the last major rock band to turn fury and indignation into a top 10 album with 2004’s “American Idiot.” "Music goes through these cycles, but this happens to be the longest cycle I remember without someone breaking through on a meaningful level." “After the turbulent ’60s, you got ’70s schlock -- quiet and boring [music], lots of earth tones -- then punk came around. Music goes through these cycles, but this happens to be the longest cycle I remember without someone breaking through on a meaningful level; someone who really has something to say.” “Ignoring it, that’s their statement,” says Armstrong, whose kids are now 18 and 21. “That’s their anger. You’re making me angry, so I’m turning my back on you. They’re done dealing with it all. They’re like, ‘I’m going to binge-watch zombies eating each other.’ ” Adds Armstrong, “It’s come to the point where artists are backed into a corner where there’s really no other place for them to go. You look at what’s happening with the news, and everything that’s going on in the world, and it’s kind of like ‘The Walking Dead.’ it’s coming right at you. You better write something about it.” http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/la-et-ms-music-anger-20160629-snap-story.html

  40. Everyone has different "favourite songs" off the trilogy. That's why a single album would've been a terrible idea.

  43. Am I the only one that didn't want the trilogy to be a single album with the "best songs"? Listening to the entire trilogy for the first time was a hell of a ride. I was pretty satisfied with all that sweet sweet Green Day greatness.

  44. I have to add that I disagree with the thing where people say being more critical/less fangirly/not liking all their albums makes you a better fan as well though. I've seen that idea put about on here as often as I've seen liking everything makes you a better fan. Both are equally annoying . Like, the most annoying thing about trilogy hate was how some people who didn't like it acted like they must have more discerning tastes and be a better fan because they expected more of the band while those who liked it were obviously just blindly liking anything the band does and lesser fans because of it. Neither liking more nor liking less of a band's output makes you a better fan. I'm certain there were people who competed over who was a better fan before that. And they had "fangirls" when Dookie came out too. From what I've seen they (along with most bands) have always had plenty of embarrassing fans.
