That last photo needs to be burned and never seen again since it confirms hubbys theory that Billie doesn't have a chin.4 points

Nicely done, I like that they mention the nativity play and the London FBHT show Includes Know Your Enemy, WMUWSE and JOS. Doesn't include 21st Century Breakdown, Nice Guys Finish Last, Warning, Holiday, Redundant, Hitchin A Ride or Walking Contradiction. Fail3 points

Not certain but I think it was just mentioned during an interview/article by the writer as an interesting fact rather than being a quote/discussion. So I don't think which bands were on it has been gone into. But if we're speculating they used to talk about not liking lame 80s bands (saying they created Green Day's sound by knowing they didn't want to sound like that) so probably some of them in there, Billie specifically said they almost didn't want to play Madison Square Garden in 1994 because Bon Jovi was on the bill and made digs at them during the show lol. And he's said that he liked the Sex Pistols but PIL was shit so possibly them. And like you say maybe conservative type acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd (hearing one of their songs was inspiration for the song American Idiot) or Ted Nugent. They've also talked about disliking boring grungy/shoegazing bands of the 90s quite a few times, they made fun of Sonic Youth in the original HLAHG, and they've dissed Oasis and Hootie and the Blowfish. Otherwise I'd guess nu metal bands and lame rock bands in general, they certainly used to trash them a lot. Don't know exactly when he had the seat but if it was post 2000 then I'd pick Limp Bizkit, Staind, Nickelback and bands like them. Can't think of more off the top of my head but they used to make fun of other bands a lot so there's a lot of potential candidates . Sadly I doubt he'd tell if he was asked now.3 points

Or maybe they were rehearsing for when the new critically acclaimed album goes multi-platinum in many countries, spawning many hit singles, winning many awards for their music videos, a successful world tour, Billie winning sexiest man in rock, and them cementing their place as one of the best acts of all time.2 points

I have just, for the 30th time, watched that video that Jane posted on the previous page of Billie dancing with his family- and I have belatedly noticed the Xmas fairy lights in the background behind Billie. Perhaps their dancing was part of some bizarre family game.... or maybe they were burning off the calories from their Xmas dinner!2 points

I think my favorite from the whole set is 8th Ave. Serenade. I just love the way that during the chorus, the melody that increases with intensity as the words rise in intensity, until he sings "Before all the flames burn out", where the melody gently falls back at the end of the phrase to match the 'burn out'. Really lovely word painting with the music. I love the way Billie Joe sings it, and the counterpoint with the melody of the interesting background harmonies. I think the words are just beautiful, just a really great love song for those who have loved and been married to the same person for a long time. It has Beatlesesque/ Nimrod vibe to it. Just wonderful. I would love to hear him sing this live.2 points

Joan Jett for sure doesn't "give a damn about her reputation" I love her tho she's legendary. Like Billie Joe.1 point

Nah, they weren't angry at all there, the Trilogy largely didn't have much of any particular emotion (I still like it but y'know, it doesn't sound like Billie really meant what he was saying) and the sound was way too clean.1 point

I don't reckon it'll be as grand and dramatic as 21CB, I think we'll get something more raw, angry and generally fed up with shit.1 point

He (along with the rest of the band) was doing it pretty much up until American Idiot , they actually only started doing it a lot after Dookie. But yeah maybe he's more mature now , plus I guess they have to be more careful what with how things get blown up on social media.1 point

Didn't Billie also say how much he did not like Smashing Pumpkins? Also, in more recent years hasn't he kind of back tracked on some of those? I think he is more supportive of other bands now.1 point

I guess the disappointment with the trilogy comes from having the biggest expectations for them. I really agree with hating how it is produced, there is no "umph" in it. But we did get some awesome songs; Let Yourself Go, Stray Heart, DRB, Walk Away, 8th Ave, and so on. While i find a lot of it to be filler songs (especially Amanda, i can't really stand listening to that one, it does nothing for me) I guess i was happy to get these songs than none at all. I'll just assume they will be back and ready with the next album and it will be awesome because honestly it feels like the trilogy never happened. With the rehab, no promotion, the era was all a blur!1 point

TIL that Ted Nugent and Scott Ian like Green Day, which I find really cool because I greatly enjoy the music of both Anthrax and The Amboy Dukes. I've never really agreed with Green Day's politics, which I was reminded of by Billie's latest IG post. I actually thought that how Ted managed to put aside his political beliefs to propose working with GD, even though BJA turned him down, and how he admits that he likes them, even though that's not the most popular thing to say in much of the classic rock community, was quite mature of him. Well, maybe it's because, unlike a lot of GD fans (because many tend to be liberal and Ted does say some very inflammatory stuff sometimes), I actually like Ted Nugent. I think that the way the media treats him is a bit like how they like to sensationalize and take Dave Mustaine's words out of context to get more clicks. I've watched interviews with both, and I actually think that they seem like nice people. Getting back to Green Day, I almost feel certain that the album will be at least fairly political, considering the amount of politically-charged stuff that Billie has posted on social media in the last month alone.1 point

It's hard to believe some of the older songs, especially on Kerplunk and Nimrod were written by such a young person.1 point

An incomplete list to say the least. Also reminds me of what a shame it is that it doesn't actually say "Green Day" in the song.1 point

It's fine. I took a lot worse at school and so that was nothing by comparison. If you can take a punch square in the middle of the face and walk away with the sense their hand took the brunt of the force, you can take a load of humorous comments from people who disagree to the point of meme usage.1 point

Caring about other people's fandom is useless anyway. Different people make different choices and just because our idea of being a fan is different from someone else's doesn't mean one approach is superior. For example, I'm a fangirl - it's something I like to do but that doesn't mean I'm uncritical of the band's work. Others may find either of this wrong.. but there's no right way to be a fan: critical, uncritical, emotionally invested or not - I don't care. Have fun the way you want.1 point
-
I have to add that I disagree with the thing where people say being more critical/less fangirly/not liking all their albums makes you a better fan as well though. I've seen that idea put about on here as often as I've seen liking everything makes you a better fan. Both are equally annoying . Like, the most annoying thing about trilogy hate was how some people who didn't like it acted like they must have more discerning tastes and be a better fan because they expected more of the band while those who liked it were obviously just blindly liking anything the band does and lesser fans because of it. Neither liking more nor liking less of a band's output makes you a better fan. I'm certain there were people who competed over who was a better fan before that. And they had "fangirls" when Dookie came out too. From what I've seen they (along with most bands) have always had plenty of embarrassing fans.1 point
-
This is the kind of stuff that I HATE about Green Day fans (and probably a lot of fan bases.) Opinions don't make you more or less of a fan. Why does there have to be a competition over who's a better fan? Who fucking cares? The Green Day fanbase started getting like this in 2004 with all the fangirls competing for Billie's love and for image reasons, and I thought people would have outgrown it by now.1 point

Except they didn't go back to their roots. Their roots were distorted guitars, mike-billie harmonies, wild drum fills/bass lines. They had clean guitars, billie-billie harmonizing, almost no good drum moments for Tre and even fewer bass moments for Mike.1 point

I think the Oh Love and Kill the DJ videos are ok, but nothing special and they could've been executed better. The main issue I have with Sam Bayer is the cringeworthy JOS and WMUWSE videos, awful awful awful. I do like the other AI videos, and they were just right for the album and the band at that time. But overall I'm not a big fan of the direction he takes Green Day in, it's too poser-ish.1 point

Or, maybe because a 37 song trilogy with tiny guitars, overproduced and uninspiring vocals, mid-life crisis induced lyrics about themes that hardly even seem connected to Billie Joe Armstrong, and absolutely zero room for Tre and Mike to show their talents was, y'know, a bad idea. Exhibit A: "Where did you come from? Where have you been? Looks like you fell into the trash bin" From A Little Boy Named Train (shockingly, not nominated for record of the year) B: "Sex, drugs & violence English, math & science, Safety in numbers Give me, give me danger" From SD&V C: "Oh, anyhow, anywhere Kiss me there, oh kiss me there Oh, scream and shout, truth or dare Kiss me there, oh kiss me there" From Makeout Party D: "Where in the world’s the forgotten? They’re lost inside your memory You’re dragging on, your heart’s been broken As we all go down in history" and "Well, don’t look away from the arms of a bad dream Don’t look away, sometimes you’re better lost than to be seen Don’t look away from the arms of a moment Don’t look away from the arms of tomorrow Don’t look away from the arms of a moment Don’t look away from the arms of love" From the inimitable "The Forgotten" E: "Wanna be a Troublemaker Wanna be a Troublemaker Wanna be a Troublemaker Wanna be a Troublemaker Hey! I like your BMW I like your BM-excellent tits With a tattoo of a pig sniffing glue" From Troublemaker F: "Hanging out all by myself, at least I make good company Hey, isn't that a whatshisface that I see walking down the street I'm gonna hide in the shadows 'cause I really got nothing to say We never had anything in common and I never liked you anyway" From Loss of Control G: "Everything that I want I want from you But I just can't have you Everything that I need I need from you But I just can't have you" From Stray Heart Alright, there's what I am going to consider evidence of cliche, lazy, or subpar lyricism in the trilogy. There's many more examples, but there's a start. Now, if they had been making melodies/harmonies as tight as Kerplunk/Dookie or the instruments matched the level of Insomniac Warning or Nimrod, then maybe I'd let the lyrics go, hell I listen to music with far worse lines than this, but I've certainly come to realize Green Day are a standard above the norm, a HOF band that is worth more than the trilogy displayed1 point

The only things I saw wrong with the Trilogy were the fact that the lyrics were mostly shite and half-arsed and that the supposedly "Clean, Stripped-down" sound they were going for sounded to bare, as well as Billie's vocals being ruined by the numerous effects (not falling into the old filters trap) added to them and making them sound really flat and dull. If they ditched a few tracks to make no more than a double album, left Billie's vocals alone and stuck some distortion and drive on the guitars, it would have worked for me. Plus, Sam Bayer shouldn't have directed the video for Oh Love since it might fit the song but the video is just a bit awful IMO and a better job could have been done.1 point
