  3. It's hard to believe some of the older songs, especially on Kerplunk and Nimrod were written by such a young person.

  4. It's fine. I took a lot worse at school and so that was nothing by comparison. If you can take a punch square in the middle of the face and walk away with the sense their hand took the brunt of the force, you can take a load of humorous comments from people who disagree to the point of meme usage.

  6. An incomplete list to say the least. Also reminds me of what a shame it is that it doesn't actually say "Green Day" in the song.

  7. Hopefully we'll see some moves like this on the tour!

  8. I watched it again last night. I haven't watched it for a long time either but I really enjoyed it. I like it even more than HLAH.

  9. I agree, you can be any kind of fan you want with Green Day. That's part of the magic of this band. I think the Trilogy is pretty good, it deserved to do better than it did. With proper marketing and visibility I think it would have done better. I was just a casual fan at the time, not really closely following them but still enjoying their music when OH love first came out. I remember hearing Oh Love on the pop station and really liking it a lot! It caught my ear, I thought it was so good I bought UNO! That's just one example of how Marketing/radio play, exposure makes a big difference. There are some really bad, bland, meaningless lyrics on the Trilogy but some of the songs are as good as any classic Green Day. Brutal Love, X-Kid, Lazy Bones, 8th Avenue Serenade are a few outstanding examples IMO. Too many songs sound unfinished, with lyrics that you would use to "block" the melody until you came up with something better. It is terribly under-produced, with Billie's over-produced vocals and the guitars stripped clean for Every.Single.Song. I am hoping desperately for an artful, thoughtful album as far as production, engineering, mixing is concerned, with meaningful lyrics, from the heart. And crusty guitars! (and piano)

  11. You captured it well. It's such a simple but powerful song.

  12. I was thinking about that too. Those old songs are amazing, not so much for simply listening too, but as a testament to the brilliance of Billie Joe. I can imagine him sitting in Algebra or Biology class, bored out of his skull, his mind and heart a million miles away, creating those wonderful lyrics. At my High School job I'm sensitive to "those" kids, who hate school, who get nothing from it, but who are loaded with talent and creativity and potential, that the required high school classes don't nurture. As a music teacher I'm lucky because I get to give those kids they wouldn't get in the classes they hate.

  13. I think my favorite from the whole set is 8th Ave. Serenade. I just love the way that during the chorus, the melody that increases with intensity as the words rise in intensity, until he sings "Before all the flames burn out", where the melody gently falls back at the end of the phrase to match the 'burn out'. Really lovely word painting with the music. I love the way Billie Joe sings it, and the counterpoint with the melody of the interesting background harmonies. I think the words are just beautiful, just a really great love song for those who have loved and been married to the same person for a long time. It has Beatlesesque/ Nimrod vibe to it. Just wonderful. I would love to hear him sing this live.

  18. The trilogy had everything for me, it had it's fantastic songs, it's okay songs, and not too great songs. Of course that's bound to happen when you release 37 songs in quick succession. Overall I liked the trilogy but it definitely wasn't without it's faults.

  19. Caring about other people's fandom is useless anyway. Different people make different choices and just because our idea of being a fan is different from someone else's doesn't mean one approach is superior. For example, I'm a fangirl - it's something I like to do but that doesn't mean I'm uncritical of the band's work. Others may find either of this wrong.. but there's no right way to be a fan: critical, uncritical, emotionally invested or not - I don't care. Have fun the way you want.

  21. That is possibly the most ridiculous, thing I've ever heard. There is no rule that you have to like at least 1 song on every album. You can be a,fan and like as much or as little of any bands catalog.

  24. I think the Oh Love and Kill the DJ videos are ok, but nothing special and they could've been executed better. The main issue I have with Sam Bayer is the cringeworthy JOS and WMUWSE videos, awful awful awful. I do like the other AI videos, and they were just right for the album and the band at that time. But overall I'm not a big fan of the direction he takes Green Day in, it's too poser-ish.

  25. I don't mind the videos to Oh Love or Kill the DJ. I think the fit the theme of the songs fairly well. They are by no means my favorites, but I don't think they show a decline in Sam Bayers directing abilities.

  26. I loved the style of the 21st Century Breakdown video, it was really well done. Very artistic, creative, and complimented the song well. I hope they stick with something like that, or something with humor like Holiday or Walking Contradiction. Sam Bayer, no! Oh Love was just so bad, I don't want him near another GD video.
