  1. I sometimes feel as if people are really, really surprised when they find out that my favorite band is Green Day. My favorite genre is heavy metal, followed closely by thrash metal, and the remainder of my "favorite bands" list is comprised of groups like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Queensrÿche, Slayer, Death, Exodus, Testament, Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, Venom, and other groups that are not at all similar to GD in sound or image. I also tend to lean conservative on most issues, whereas Green Day's members are staunchly liberal. I sometimes don't even understand why I love them so much myself. I think that that might be indicative of Green Day's ability to appeal to people from all walks of life, though. They have fans from all backgrounds, which I think is fairly rare for rock musicians.

  6. I love this photo so much! I wanted to list all the body parts I find attractive in it but then I realized it would look like a beginner textbook dictionary so please consider this a reminder to enjoy the rare occasion of him having a visible chin and cheekbones. edit: didn't want to double post, so here is something I wanted to share:

  7. Top 20 Major Label Debuts by Indie Bands That Made the Leap 5. Green Day – Dookie No one makes adolescent boredom sound as cool as Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong. That’s why 21 years after its release, Dookie is still one of the most listenable punk albums ever made. Like its angrier older cousin Nevermind, Dookie carried a lot of weight when it was released, simultaneously propelling Green Day into the spotlight and punk into the mainstream. The band’s third album finally came to fruition when Green Day struck a deal with Reprise, which set them up with producer Rob Cavallo. With his help, the raccoon-eyed rockers managed to attain the Black Sabbath/Sex Pistols production style they were looking for while capturing the angsty adolescence that ultimately became the band’s staple. And when it comes down to it, the album’s youthful spirit is what makes it a classic. The album cover displays cartoon chaos, the title refers to the band’s post-tour-food diarrhea, and throughout the whole album, Armstrong drawls apathetic lyrics like “Twiddle my thumbs just for a bit/ I’m sick of all the same old shit.” Hell, even the name “Green Day” is a cheesy nod to the band’s love of cannabis. No matter the era, a pissed-off high schooler can find solace in Dookie’s perfect immaturity. –Danielle Janota http://consequenceofsound.net/2015/06/top-20-major-label-debuts-by-indie-bands-that-made-the-leap/

  8. More like 10 random well known pop punk bands of the 90s/00s. I don't believe most of them are "influential". Also completely ridiculous that the Offspring isn't there. Not bad! Especially when they really only narrowly fit the genre. And QOTSA and Rammstein are there so I'm happy.

  9. I always wanted Church On Sunday to go up a key during the repeated choruses at the end, because it would've been funny. And then they made my wish come true by doing exactly that with a song that sounds like it. Actually my favourite thing about Static Age . The surprise sax solo when they play it live is pretty cool too.

  11. I'm sure this is old news, but you can sing the chorus of Static Age at the same time as the chorus to Church on Sunday. My youngest aspiring singer son likes to demonstrate, every time I play either song.

  12. I just thought of something. Has Billie ever stated that he took the title of the song (Static Age) from the Misfits album? It seems likely.

  13. If you had thrown in Static Age you would have hit all my favorites from 21CB

  14. Surely they could've thought of a worse song than that? Even if you dislike the song I can't see how it could be considered anywhere near bad enough to be on a top 10 bad songs list. A weirdly mediocre list in general when so many ridiculously bad rock songs exist in this world.

  15. More appreciation for Beej in a white T shirt. He should definitely stick with V-necks and short sleeves
