  1. Just because they took meth it doesn't mean they were meth addicts. Sometimes people use drugs without becoming addicted to them. I'm still confused by what they mean by "speed" and "meth" though. Both words refer to types of amphetamines but here "speed" means pills while "meth" means crystal meth that you smoke and is much more harmful, but Green Day seem to use the two words interchangeably. Can "meth" mean speed pills? Because surely they weren't smoking crystal meth? Pretty sure that was mostly in the early days up to around Insomniac times though. I think I've read Billie saying something like he switched to alcohol around Nimrod times (and the fact he went from speed-skinny to chubby with a beer belly supports that ). And yeah the Megadeth thing was definitely a joke.

  2. It is possible, I know someone who did. He said he "no longer gets stoned" in this interview Hermione linked me to around AI time, so I assume he'd stopped most things by then. Wasn't that a joke? I remember him tweeting "just kidding but I am watching Megadeth" or something afterwards.

  9. Totally agree! Would've been a shame to hide it away at the end too. Sorry to disappoint you but it's so not a popular opinion

  12. Nuclear Family would actually be a pretty good opener, I reckon. It works well as an album opener, at least, which is more than can be said for Brutal Love.

  14. Are We The Waiting isn't mentioned, but here's one example of that trip being talked about: From here: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/green-day-and-the-palace-of-wisdom-20050224 I found that because I remembered red wine being mentioned and googled it. I know it was mentioned in quite a few other interviews/articles as well, including him saying walking around at night looking up at the lights of the city during the trip helped inspire Are We The Waiting. There's probably more to be found in scans of 2004/2005 articles on GDA.

  16. Greenday June 3 Raining in Los Angeles - or June gloom. Been a few years since I've seen cloud like this in LA. Shot Green Day at lunch time and you know they are easy, and friendly. Spent the rest of the day with Dave Mustaine. I thought I could moan, Dave beats me hands down, but you know what, I always have a good time with him. He even asked after "Big Nose", photographer Peter Cronin (another great winger of the 20th century). I left Dave as he drove back to San Diego in the early evening rain. http://www.rosshalfin.com/diary/june-2009/diary-june-2009.php

  18. He must've failed geography. San Diego is nowhere near the concert he saw with BJA in San Jose. (This article says it was May 19th show...which was in San Jose).

  19. I read somewhere, I think it was in the Cometbus book but Im not sure. Anyway I read that they went to parties and people would tell them to do meth so they did but they snorted it like coke. I didnt know you could snort meth.

  20. Billie did take meth (I'm assuming they all did). He wrote about it in songs and talked about it in interviews. It's a seriously addictive substance but he has never admitted to being a meth addict. Then again he never fully said what he was using other than perscription meds after iheart. Who knows if there was other stuff. It's hardly shocking and who really cares. Most of us got into the band knowing they did hard drugs and whatever. Hey it's their lives. We have to assume they know how to handle themselves. They aren't dead yet lol. Anyway here is an example of one interview where he mentions using meth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o25_Mjsw_I&feature=youtube_gdata_player

  23. actually, it's more energeric than many trilogy songs. The lyrics are not special, but I think it would work live, because we wouldn't focus on them so much as on the album. What I can tell from the Quatro live recording, Loss Of Control is a pretty good live song. I'm not sure if it would work as a starter, but I wouldn't say so about any Trilogy song.

  28. I am going to preface this by saying that The Who is my second favorite band of all time. Their pedestal is only slightly lower than Green Day's. I would say that A Quick One was a style influence for Jesus of Suburbia, not that it comes from that song. Trivia, A Quick One is the prelude to Tommy, it introduces Tommy's parents. It is rare that I think a cover is better than the original, but in this case, I think GD's version is far superior. In The Who's version, I find the song to be very disjointed. Even though it is one song, with multiple parts, there still needs to be some continuity. It does not even flow as a medley. To me it sounds like a bunch of different sounds thrown together with very little thought of the flow. Also, the energy level is very subdued, which makes listening to a 9 minute song rather difficult. I never actually liked the song, even though I love The Who. I think GD fixed all the things I did not like about The Who's version. They increased the energy level and made the song flow as one. To me, it sounds like one song with several parts, not a mix of different sounds. I think it is interesting that Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend take on GD version is so different. Roger loves it and Pete hates it. Whatever their feelings are, it is clear that the GD version made an impression on them.

  30. I'm quite sure Billie farted at some point, within the last 2 hours. I felt in my soul. If that ain't news, I don't know what is. Also, I've been seeing posters all over Oslo, Billie's face is everywhere. I'll try to steal one and upload a decent picture later.

  31. well actually, the firsr Green day song I loved, I got to know thanks to Surf's up (THANK YOU, SURFING PENGUINS!!! XDDD) I spent HOURS to find it (it's not even one the official tracklist XD cause of "blasphemy"...) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N41QJ0VCs68 and a coulpe of days ago when Friday 13 was on I heard this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5U3JuzTZZY I screamed so loudly I didn't even hear the end of the joke XD

  33. Not sure if this counts, but I'm a journalism student (I work at newspapers) and I'm constantly finding myself subconsciously slipping Green Day references into my stories... or resisting the urge to. Science story about space? 2,000 light years away. Sleeping pills story? Insomniac. I tried to make a headline for a photo of an environmentally-friendly event "Green Day," but then I realized I'm probably the only one who would find it clever. It's becoming problematic...
