  1. In the first verse, the repetition is clearly intentional. It's a curt observation, meant to be overly simplified. You can't look at only the last two words and judge a rhyme scheme, either. Because the second verse has a pay off and it's the line: "Or did he hide away from hopes Behind a smile and smoking dope" This is a pretty good line for an 18 year old, which reads to me as auto-biographical, even though he's referring to another person, he's talking about himself as well. There's also: "It makes me wonder when I grow to be that age Will I be walking down the street begging for your spare change" That's not only a good rhyme, but an impressive fit syllabically, he really did a good job fitting all those words in to the melody. And then the continuation from this line: "Or will I grow that old? Will I still be around? The way I carry on I'll end up Six feet underground And waste away..." With "away" being a bookend on the "soft a" sound of the pre-chorus. Then "on" falls as a near-rhyme with "around" in the song and it's internal, another impressive fit with the melody. It's not their best lyrically, but I respect the hell out of any 18 year old who can fit words in to a melody the way he does, and this scheme/lyric is a pretty good one. That's not true, phrases ending in the same word is a useful and valid technique. The problem with "Whatsername" is the fact that the sounds prior to the last word also don't work together and there is no obvious meaning to the repetition device. With Android, it certainly makes more sense and is also separated by another phrase. *retweets*

  2. But the line about not turning back time is so poignant, because it shows the narrator knows what he had, but he still wouldn't want to go back and do it all again... Isn't there any other way to fix it? Actually, y'know, despite being a grammar nazi, the double-rhyme doesn't even bother me that much. It took me 9 years to notice it because the song is so good.

  3. They probably wouldn't let an underage in anyway. It's a pity though, must've been a show of a lifetime. Seeing FBHT is almost as good as seeing Green Day at a small venue imo.

  4. I've been praying for this the whole day. Yesterday's show gave me more hope that I'll one day hear my favorite old songs live. I love Uptight so so much.

  5. I'm listening to Nimrod and it just reminded me that everything about Reject gives it a fucking badass attitude.

  6. That line in Whatsername bothers me so much, because it's the only thing wrong with an otherwise perfect song.

  7. A fact is that that's what is usually expected from them, so I guess it's not easy to balance the craziness and keep it different from a Green Day show withought acting it so it doesn't look strained.

  8. Yeah, it's definitely not imperative for them to be trashed in order to put on a good show.

  9. The craziness is something I'd miss about them, but I personally don't really need that for a good gig experience.

  10. Yeah, they'll likely be less...crazy, but for me it's all part of the general gig experience - no matter who it is - to have to stagger out of the venue with numb feet, battered arms and smelling of other people's alcohol. It's not exactly nice, but it's part of the package.

  11. I see, at least you would know you didn't have a chance. I hope they will, but their shows would be different (or rather Green Day like) now. Honestly I'd love to see them withought having to smell beer in my hair for a week so no problem

  12. Yeah, I doubt I'd have got in but even so I would've wanted to at least try. Maybe they'll come back some day...

  13. Yeah, I know I was damn lucky to be at Brixton but I still want to see them somewhere really tiny, like when the Foxboro Hot Tubs played The Garage (I was 12 and it was a Sunday night, my parents wouldn't let me go no matter how awesome it would've been).

  14. Exactly. When I learned there was a show last night first thing I felt was happiness mixed with envy. I want to see them at a smaller venue. I've been waiting for about 5 years now so I'm really desperate to see them now. Reading through the Gilman thread hurts

  15. I'd forgotten that! Damn, all this talk of them playing live (and the fact that I'm listening to the HoB gig right now) makes me want to see them RIGHT NOW.

  16. Green Day played it in Irving Plaza 2012 so there's a chance - it's not so super rare as Stuart.

  17. So do I, it's fantastic and it'd be bloody brilliant live. I've always wanted to hear 409 In Your Coffeemaker live, Sweet Children played it so I'm hoping one day I'll see Green Day do it.

  18. They've only just started playing Stuart & The Ave, maybe in 2017 they'll start playing Reject and Uptight.

  19. It's so funny. I always enjoy it just for the laughs. Toilet flushing. My theory is that it symbolises the wasted (down the drain) life. I love that song. It's a shame it's never been played live and is so overlooked.

  20. I'd totally approve of a Nimrod-esque album for their next one.

  22. Troublemaker's lyrics are deliberately silly and crass so they don't make me cringe, they were knowingly written to be that way. (Some of) Android's are just really awkward and it wasn't deliberate, they're meant to be serious, which is what creates the cringe We're not going to agree about all the rhymes but yeah there's some good lyrics too, and he makes some intelligent and thoughtful observations in the song. There's just a few lyrics and rhymes in there that jar with me.

  26. Repeating words is actually quite a good thing to do for artistic effect and emphasis, but you can't rhyme a word with itself. That's just... awful. Hence, my headcanon for that last bit is "Forgetting you were mine / Forgetting you, but not the time."

  27. I like opening with something upbeat. I like Brutal Love as an ending more than a beginning. But, you are still missing F(Woo) Time, unless that is my private encore??

  34. I just thought of another one. In Dry Ice I always thought that Billie keeps saying, "she is the pain that's in dry ice" which actually makes a lot of sense
