Castaway just excels at all of the things that make a pop-punk song good. First, there's the obvious melody. The vocal melody flows up and down each line and word brilliantly, showcasing why Green Day's melodies are so good. The words just fall at the right places in the melody. Then there's the bassline, which is one of Mike's best. The drumming is fast-paced and upbeat, just like the song. And the lyrics are quite good. The strength in the words though is just how well they sync with the melody. An example: "I'm on a sentimental journey Into sight and sound Of no return and no looking back or down A consciences objector to the War that's in my mind" "I'm riding on the night train and Driving stolen cars Testing my nerves out of the blvd. Spontaneous combustion on the Corners of my mind" Both lines follow more or less the same vocal melody, but the way the two underlined parts fall is just incredible writing. And that verse melody flows in to the chorus seamlessly, the mark of a great Green Day song. Castaway is #2 in my favorite GD songs list, but I of course will allow that is not their best, because it really isn't anything beyond what we've come to expect, so I can understand not loving it like I do.

Minority best attribute is seeing it live, even though the studio version is great.

Minority was one of my favourite songs as a child, mainly due to the video. Misery is also excellent.

Don't you dare compare Castaway's chorus to KTDJ's Castaway's main strength is of course the other worldly verses, but the chorus doesn't let it down. I especially the extra snarl Billie puts on the last "Castaway"

Billie not singing every song??? Hmmm not sure if I like that. As long as he gets to stand there and look pretty, I might let him take a break. The only opening act I will allow is the Foxboro Hottubs.

I like 86 for the message, the song has never been that amazing. Though the anger really comes through his snarling delivery, especially live.

Plus if they named it Insomniac they couldn't release the brain-shaped single. My first advice is to listen to SD&R, because you said before it no longer does anything for you and that needs to be cured. Failing that, just listen to what you've got, but louder.

Is there a video of Billie talking about Goat Island from the AI era (possibly after)? I think I recall one of him talking about yelling at the boat but I could be totally wrong.
