You really just like to shit on the trilogy any chance you get to. You're such a negative annoying fuck.10 points

It kind of sounds like Billie is just repeatedly sneezing in Platypus. "'Cause achoo, 'cause achoo, 'cause achoo!"4 points

It's better than the original studio version, but The Who's live version blows both out of the water. https://youtube.com/watch?v=R0JHM0Q8JKQ2 points

One thing that kind of irritates me when the iHeart topic is brought up: The iHeart rant wasn't directed at Justin Bieber, he merely mentioned him once during the rant - people just like to single that one statement out because they enjoy bashing Justin Bieber or seeing him get bashed in general. Saying the rant was about Justin Bieber (as the tabloids seemed to do) clearly misses the point, it was obviously about his annoyance at being told to leave the stage and during that he dropped a few names. BJ mentioned Usher during the rant too, but nobody talks about that.2 points

Does it annoy anyone else when folk say over online how 'awesome' Billie Joe's rant was at iHeart Radio 2012? Not that I didn't agree with what Billie Joe said, but I don't think it's 'awesome' at all to see someone under the influence of prescription pill addiction, as well as alcohol addiction, mentally breakdown in public. Even watching that footage now makes me feel...uneasy.2 points

I think it was in the Rolling Stone article, but I'm not 100% sure. He said that one night after a show, he was so out of it, he woke up in a park on the West Side Highway and didn't know how he got there. I think it was after the Irving Plaza show.1 point

We talked in the over 30s thread, I would never think you're a teen. I was talking about where my stance on protecting young and weird-ish fans comes from.1 point
-
Not the worst thing he did during that time - not even near. And nowhere near the things my schoolmates did. This is why I act like a mama (space) bear to teenage fangirls who may be a bit awkward. Whoever hurts them in my presence will face the consequences...or something.1 point
-
The good thing is he didn't pee on stage of spit in someones face - yeah I can't get over that today.....1 point

I said, in hindsight, you can see it. I agree that if I was at the concert, I might not have noticed anything, but looking back it is clear. He was off key almost the entire show. When he stage dived, it was back wards off of a 10 foot speaker. Mike and Tre were constantly shaking their heads at each other. Mike walked over to Jason at the end of the stage dive and said something. At the end of the show, Billie couldn't remember any lyrics and starting singing things like Mike Dirnt is a dirty whore. As Ceadog said, Tre looked scared. Also, I believe that this was the show that Billie said he woke up in a park on the west side highway and didn't know how he got there. That is really all I can remember off the top of my head.1 point

Maybe I guess if you were there you would think it was amazing (billie's huge backward stage dive). I had a friend at Shepherd's Bush concert (the one when the guys were late on stage because of "technical issues" - bullshit) she said she didn't notice anything & had a great time. All of it was not the impression I got - I got a guy spiraling out of control.1 point
-
The aftermath is cringeworthy, yeah, but I feel like people read way too much into the concert itself. Before the meltdown everyone was going on about how it was the best Green Day concert ever and so on and so forth; it was only after iHeart that all this talking about "I knew something was wrong" started. The breakdown is rather personal, yeah, but I guess I just don't see the rest of it. Granted, I haven't watched the proshot portion in ages.1 point

What exactly happens at Irving Plaza that's so sad to watch? As far as I can tell Billie got toasted and they played an awesome setlist.1 point

Probably, though I've seen Peter Doherty do worse - I think he once had a fight with the security people themselves because they tried to stop him doing something.1 point

Yeah I think we heard what the guy was doing from anecdotal evidence from people who were there. Glad it worked! I can still remember it without being able to watch it again, definitely gross1 point

Record Store Day 2015 John Roecker Oh they look so good and only a thousand copies!1 point

Probably still a bit of a gross little shit even if justified . I want to find that video now, I'm on the hunt for it.1 point

Never fear, my taste will never descend that low. Honestly, I don't even hate it at this point just because I'll so often forget it exists. I'll make a smarmy comment about it now and then but my heart isn't in it unless it's an active debate.1 point

Totally true, but between this album, The White Album, Tusk and Exile on Main St. I guess I'm just a sprawling album kinda person.1 point

That performance blows most performances of anything ever out of the water, to be fair.1 point

Probably because it was such a stupid comparison given the "1988" comment since Usher has been making music since 19871 point

Tre from the trilogy is listed as an honorable mention for a bad album from a good band. I think it's weird that they singled Tre out from the rest of the trilogy and how they chose to play The Forgotten, but thats just my opinion.1 point

ANOTHER AWESOME PIECE OF CONCEPTUAL ART FROM MARIE GALLERY. That aside, the first time I popped a pirate CD of Nimrod into my faulty diskman, I almost certainly heard "Cause I ate you!"1 point
-
On that note, I actually think their cover of Working Class Hero is actually better than Lennon's original. The more powerful instrumentation I think lends itself better to the message than the original, which to me is just kind of quiet and plodding.1 point
-
I couldn't disagree more! Not really interested in comparing covers to originals in terms of which is better but on its own I think it sounds great and Billie puts plenty of passion into it. I think it's the third best cover they've done after Working Class Hero and A Quick One.1 point
-
It's not from Nimrod As Ha Ha is produced by the band not by Rob it was recorded at Catbox not at Conway And Chris Dugan engineered it and not Ken Allardyce If I remember correctly Dugan started around Warning era1 point

I quite like "Sex, Drugs & Violence." Yeah, there are some terrible lyrics in it, but it's fun, Mike sings (notable considering it's a trilogy song), and the guitar solo is good. "Running wild like a runaway"1 point

Since we're on the subject of American Eulogy I just want to point out how awesome that verse is. The lyrics are good, but primarily the way Billie rattles off far too many syllables a line is epic. You just think he's gonna take a breath and he keeps going through the next chord change. That kind of delivery is really appealing to me, which is probably why my favourite album is the Manics' Holy Bible.1 point

This debate about using the N-word in American Eulogy reminds me of a story I wrote about a girl whose family sued a local school district for racial discrimination. Allegedly, students hurled the N-word on a daily basis while school officials sat by and did nothing. One administrator apparently even admitted she uses the word frequently herself. As I was preparing to write the story, I asked my editor if I should use the word "nigger," or write "N-word," or put "n-----," or some other censored form. He told me censoring the word diminishes the wrong these people did. He suggested I print the full word "nigger" when describing the allegations against the school officials, and I did. In printing "nigger," sure, I probably offended some people. But I wasn't printing it as my own words. I was printing it as the racist school official's words. The point is to make people feel uncomfortable by using the word in your quotation or paraphrase — to show how wrong it is when used this way. I think the same argument can (and should) be used for American Eulogy. Green Day obviously isn't saying it in the manner rappers or racist white people do. The band included it in lyrics as a quotation, while quoting a mentality the song is clearly against. The point is to make you uncomfortable by using the quote. Fuck, the phrase is even put in quotation marks in the lyrics, which rarely happens: Fight fire with a riot The class war is hanging on a wire Because the martyr is a compulsive liar, when he said "It's just a bunch of niggers throwing gas into the ..." So, yeah, my conclusion: The point of the lyric is to make you uncomfortable, but not with Green Day. You're supposed to be mad at the "martyr/compulsive liar."1 point

Again, you have to look at context. An offensive joke that endorses racism is very different from critiquing someone else's racist views.1 point
