  1. The whole thing was just embarrassing. Glad the man got his act together.

  2. Does it annoy anyone else when folk say over online how 'awesome' Billie Joe's rant was at iHeart Radio 2012? Not that I didn't agree with what Billie Joe said, but I don't think it's 'awesome' at all to see someone under the influence of prescription pill addiction, as well as alcohol addiction, mentally breakdown in public. Even watching that footage now makes me feel...uneasy.

  3. On that note, I actually think their cover of Working Class Hero is actually better than Lennon's original. The more powerful instrumentation I think lends itself better to the message than the original, which to me is just kind of quiet and plodding.

  4. I loathe their cover of Like a Rolling Stone. One of the fantastic things about the original is that all the instruments blend into a cohesive whole but you can pick out one thread in particular and listen to it in isolation as it does its thing for the whole song--the liquid organ riff, the piano, the lead guitar, bass, rhythm guitar, Bob's voice. In Green Day's cover the whole thing is just utterly buried under a wave of guitar. Also, let's face it, Billie is better than Dylan technically when it comes to vocals but he can't come close to the passion Dylan put into his vocals on this particular song.

  5. It's better than the original studio version, but The Who's live version blows both out of the water. https://youtube.com/watch?v=R0JHM0Q8JKQ

  6. It's been longer than I can remember since I listened to it, so I found it on YouTube to refresh my memory, and I agree with you after the first 10 seconds or so. It'd be perfectly fine if it was a Green Day song, but it's not, and it loses what makes it such a great Dylan song. Plus there's a glaring absence of "PLAY IT FUCKING LOUD".

  7. Why is this being discussed again? It's like beating a dead horse. He got the help he needed and seems to be better now. Isn't that all that matters?

  8. I couldn't disagree more! Not really interested in comparing covers to originals in terms of which is better but on its own I think it sounds great and Billie puts plenty of passion into it. I think it's the third best cover they've done after Working Class Hero and A Quick One.

  13. Instrumentation-wise how could anyone think Breakdown isn't their best? Probably followed by Warning and then Tre. But Dos is way down. It's exactly the same kind of setup as Dookie but without the good songs.

  14. Since we're on the subject of American Eulogy I just want to point out how awesome that verse is. The lyrics are good, but primarily the way Billie rattles off far too many syllables a line is epic. You just think he's gonna take a breath and he keeps going through the next chord change. That kind of delivery is really appealing to me, which is probably why my favourite album is the Manics' Holy Bible.

  15. "Spazzy" was different because of the context though. In American Eulogy the context of "nigger" is derisive of those who actually use the word to demean black people, whereas the use of "spazzy" was straight up offensive as he was just throwing the word around like it meant nothing.
