I like it! I always hoped for a Green Day rap song (ever since I heard Like A Rat Does Cheese - with the title and many of the lyrics quoted from classic gangsta rap songs - I knew the two things were compatible!) so it was a bit of a wish come true for me, and I think they pulled it off well with a good balance of rock and rap and Lady Cobra's seductive vocals and Billie's zombie like vocals going together nicely. Someone described it as "zombie punk rap", I think that's the perfect description. I'd really love them to collaborate with a properly well known/well respected rap artist next though. Lady Cobra raps but only as part of a strange experimental punk band so it's not quite the same thing, her vocals sound more like sultry talking and only just about qualify as rapping really, and although Nightlife does have a good rap beat to make it feel like more of a rap song as well, and is a great song, it'd be nice to see them go even further into the genre now that they've dipped their toes in it. Possibly unpopular!3 points

On the Lithium radio station, sometimes before they announce a GD song, they will flash 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee underneath. Then they will say a one-liner. The other day it was "From 924 Gilman to the Rock Hall, the punks have hit the big time.". Yesterday it was: "They helped shape an alternative generation." I know its silly, but I love hearing it.3 points

He sounds like a higher pitched, Dubstep-esque, autotuned version of a drunken Jack Sparrow. And Lady Cobra just didn't cut it for me. I'm glad you enjoyed it, though.2 points

I have a horrible cold, including a fever the last couple of nights, and all the times I've woken up in a cold sweat during the night I've immediately thought of "I woke up in a pool of sweat, at first I thought that I pissed the bed" , which has made it slightly more bearable.1 point

Would have been great to see them do something with the Beasties, I'm sure they would've been up for it too, unfortunately since MCA's death they're not continuing as a group though. But I guess you never know what the other members might do in the future. And something with Snoop would be great . I know Lil Wayne is a fan as well and have heard quite a few other rappers praise them so I think if they wanted to try something along those lines the opportunity would be there. Seems like there's a good chance they'd be open to it judging by Nightlife and I Run NY so I live in hope.1 point

Sure. They were on the printed set list but they didn't play either of those. Instead of King For a Day they played Uptight (still followed by Shout). And in the place of 8th Avenue Serenade they played 99 Revolutions.1 point

That was beautiful, perfect way to describe it! I would love to see them collaborate with a more established rap artist as well. They seem to have a relationship with Snoop, that would just blow my mind. I was hoping for a Beastie Boys song at Little Kids Rock.1 point

Your references are far too obscure for me, I've barely even heard of Green Day1 point

It may be a common theme but it doesn't mean he used it that way. Lines like: "I'm a rat inside a cage and I've got no destination" and I don't remember this one exactly but it was something like "I'm always lost give me directions and I'll still be lost" make me think that he feels lost. He did say in an interview that it was autobiographical I agree that he missed a chance with little boy named train. It should have been good but it's not. Nightlife is awesome.1 point

That is the exact point where let a smile appear on my face as I change the song. He must have been lost while writing the song. I'm sorry, but a topic like that would have made for such an amazing song. I feel like he blew the chance of a song with potential away. The lyrics seem nonsensical to me. The only two Green Day songs I dislike are Nightlife and Little Boy Named Train. Also, potentially an unpopular opinion, but I think Rest is one of the best songs on 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours.1 point

Driving happily to work listening to JOS - pulled over $150 speeding fine - officer what was your reason for speeding - answer - no reason just singing - by the time he had taken my details given me a stern talking to JOS was still playing - such an epic song1 point

They're really that type of song where you just enjoy the music and not so much analyze the lyrics. Hell, about 90% of the Trilogy are of the same category. Fixed.1 point

I just love the part in Misery when Billie is like, "Hell hounds on your trail now once again BOY"1 point

One of my favorite lyrics is "They found him in a Cadillac/bludgeoned with a baseball bat". The not-quite rhyme combined with the quadruple alliteration is fantastic.1 point

The number of past and present stories he has about pissing is way more than the average person has though. For one example during the 21st CB tour he told one about his wife informing him that he'd got up in the night half asleep and pissed in the closet and (might've been some artistic license with this part) "flushed" a hanger . There's countless others too, eg once on tour after a night of heavy drinking he dreamt that he'd pissed in his suitcase, then woke up in the morning and found urine in his suitcase. So I think in his case his real life experiences legitimize the line1 point

Every time I try to make some sense out of your music taste you say something like that It further encourages me to propose the theory that the song is about drugs and has nothing to do with love. He's having cold turkey and growing desperate, runs around his house looking for cocaine.1 point

Agree. And that's an interesting coincidence. Know what would be fun? If we'd both write that out as blog posts. I haven't seen an on-topic blog post on here in ages. Just realised my 20th Green Day anniversary is in ten days.1 point
