  1. Difference with AI is, the guitars are layered multiple times, the sound is larger. So the effects simply allow Billie to be heard above the noise. But with the stripped down trilogy music, the filters get in the way.

  2. A couple things on his vocals: 1) The trilogy vocals suck because of the filter. It doesn't sound like Billie at all at some points. When they had stripped down production on the music before, his signature snarl could be heard easily. On the trilogy his voice is soft and not interesting. And there isn't much in the way of technicality like 21CB 2) Insomniac would lose points on vocals because the words are almost undecipherable, but once you know the words he's going for, it isn't too bad. Plus he has that incredible delivery on Insomniac, the seething anger of the words comes out in his vocals. Which is perfect for the album.

  3. You can watch him do the same thing he does on BIAB on a thousand videos from fans on Youtube. During that time period he was very capable of hitting those notes in the Shout medley It sounds identical Which is why I never bought the pitch correction claims Why would you think they would only pitch correct one song? It doesn't make much sense.

  4. Sometimes I have random moments, whether it's when I'm blasting Green Day in the car or watching their sets on YouTube, where I get this overwhelming feeling of happiness and I can't help but smile. This band's music has brought joy to my life for about 10+ years now and I'm so thankful for that. It's crazy to think that they were the first band I absolutely fell in love with back when I was going into middle school. Of course I went through times when I obsessed over other bands too but those were phases that came and went. Being a Green Day fan wasn't just a phase for me; they still managed to keep me happy after all these years. Now that i'm 21, I have even more appreciation for their music and the guys themselves. Even though I may not be a huge fan of their newer stuff, I'll always love and respect them no matter what and I can't wait to find out what else they have in store for us. Anyway, that's enough of my sappy thoughts for now I just spent the last hour jamming out to 1039 Smooth in the car, and it made me in a good mood, hence this post. Hehe. Also, I just want to say all of you on this forum are the best! I know I don't post often but I do know for certain that all of you are lovely people. <3

  5. On the Christie Road one I could be wrong on it but it sounds the pretty much same (well except in better audio quality) on the cell phone video as well

  6. Billie uses filters he has never used auto tune

  7. The filters on the vocals in the Trilogy seemed to take away their usual punch and Billie Joe's unique sound.

  8. One of my favorite live songs, based on vocals, has to be Road to Acceptance. Itty bitty Billie letting those sounds loose is enough to knock anyone over. It's not exactly my most listened to on the album, but when I think of young green day, I think of this song live.

  9. I have to disagree. No singer is going to mumble on purpose. Plus, he mumbles on all the earlier work, maybe not as much as on Insomniac, but he still mumbles. He has worked to become a better vocalist. During the Insomniac days, he did not have the capacity to record something like Foreverly. Unfortunately, all modern music will have some form of auto-tuning. I don't think the trilogy was as bad as others today. I actually heard more auto-tuning on BIAB. But, I agree 21CB was his best GD vocal performance. Foreverly however, was vocally amazing.

  10. I think they're great on the trilogy, really clear. He showed off what he could do with them more on 21st CB because it was that type of album but the quality is still there when used more simply/less ambitiously too.

  11. His vocals have got to be the best on 21st CB in technical terms. And what makes them the best overall is subjective of course but I love them best too Along with Uno Dos and Tre they're also my joint favourites

  12. listen to say "Shoplifter" then listen to Sweet 16. Billie's voice didn't change that much, the filters create that effect

  14. I will have to listen to Christie Road again, but one thing I love about Awesome as Fuck is it is pretty clear that they didn't do many corrections. You hear his voice cracking, just like if you were there. I would be surprised if they did one song.

  15. Isn't that what auto tune does, correct the pitch? I don't hear it on Restless Heart Syndrome. Listen to BIAB, the King for a Day/Shout medley. I hear it there

  16. The Ballad of Whilhelm Fink is 10 times better than Stay The Night.

  17. Dry Ice has been my favourite on 1039 since I first heard it in 1998, and that's not going to change. Pasalacqua and Road to Acceptance are close second, but...Dry Ice.

  18. I just feel like the 21CB vocals sounded fake or odd. I prefer Billie's classic voice in AI, Dookie, Nimord, and Insomniac.

  19. I've come to the conclusion that Christie Road is Billie's best pre-21CB vocal performance. So there.

  22. Video from Jingletown recording sessions of Matt Grocott is on youtube. Crappy quality and not that interesting but you can see Billie and Joey. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tx0Eh7JJsg
