  1. Well the song as a whole has meaning, about this "wild" girl and his intoxication with her, and those lyrics help to describe that. "She gave up on Jesus for living on Venus", she went from a more conventional lifestyle to a less conventional one, and "I'm drinking the Kool-Aid, I jumped on the grenade", he's totally into her/enchanted by her and jumped into this crazy lifestyle with her. The phrases themselves are kind of silly and fun but they do make sense.

  2. AI and Insomniac are pure gold. And I think 21CB has some of the best lyrics I've ever heard (See signature). Then there are good lyrics scattered through the rest of their catalog, some Billie could have accidentally backed in to but there is just too much evidence of him being a great lyricist

  3. Go away Billie doing vocals and harmonies really pisses me off. I hate it. Even on No One Knows at the end where Billie sings both parts it kinda ruins the song for me. Outside of the studio you can't sing two parts at once.

  4. Sure, playful. But I feel that with most songs on the trilogy in terms of lyrics they weren't really trying. Instrumentation was decent on all three at best IMO. I notice that in some songs the lyrics are awful, like "Makeout Party", but the instrumentation is great. It has some of Mike Dirnt's best bass work IMO. But in some songs the everything is just put together perfectly, especially "Lazy Bones". I find Dos to be the best of the trilogy. (And for me that's not saying much) The lyrics are some of my favorite Green Day has ever done, and I go as far as to say it's not of only the best of the trilogy, but one of the best Green Day songs of all time. I always recommend it to anyone who hasn't heard the album. Seriously, if anyone hasn't heard Dos, and this goes out to EVERYONE, if there's one song you can take from it, it's "Lazy Bones".

  5. And the whole thing is sung really differently (even though it's the same basic tune), sounds way rougher/rawer. And the instrumental bit has cool spooky noises in it. I love those lyrics! Simple and playful but still holding meaning.

  9. Since we're on the topic of Dookie, I think Having a Blast is an incredibly written song. I never realized what it was about but now that I do the lyrics really are powerful. I do wonder if the song was at all controversial upon release

  12. There's always a certain crowd that a song appeals/is understandable to. Just because this song has a significantly smaller crowd, it doesn't mean that the song is bullcrap. Not necessarily anyone could identify with the whole concept of American Idiot, even. It includes failing and coming back home again empty handed. Some people that recklessly left home in their youth not necessarily became burnouts, they might have turned out to be incredibly successful, and this is the point where even the most universal concept from Green Day fails to apply to anyone and everyone.

  13. When you first meet the person you love, it is easy to spend time together. There is a raw passion that comes easily. As you've been together for 20+ years, it gets harder and harder to find that passion. You are more concerned with getting the laundry done. To me this song is about rekindling that passion.

  14. You are so wrong on this one. I am at the same stage of family life as Billie and this song hits home so much. Billie has always written about things that mean something to him. Most of the time, they can transcend generations. This is a song that you are not going to get unless you are in the same stage as he is. I get it, I get it alot. Something that may be senseless to you, may really mean alot to someone else because they get where the lyricist is coming from. Everyone sees things differently, no interpretation is ever fact its always someones opinion.

  15. Yeah whether lyrics are good or you like them is personal opinion/taste, not disputing it. Just saying what I think they mean and that I like them.

  16. It´s so funny to me that after such a long time the Trilogy still is a subject to discuss. Seems, everything has been said and discussed several times in different forums since its publishing and arguments repeat themselves in new words and expressions again and again like a merry-go-round. So the Trilogy definitely is something to remember and provides for entertainment. But I can only say this because I don´t know anything about good or bad music. So it´s just a fool´s statement. And my favourite album at the moment is 21st CB. I must be a German Idiot.

  17. Pretty sure it was a reference to Amanda's (GDC's Amanda) fondness for smacking arses.

  18. What don't you like about it? I think it's actually quite musically interesting for Green Day...

  19. thx bby No, but seriously, thanks. I wanna talk about Tre for a second. Let me just say, it's a lot better than Uno. However, when this album is good, it's really good. When this album is bad, it's really damn bad or minor shit like chorus lyrics or just lyrics in general that take away from the song. "Missing You", for example. "I searched the room, I lost my head, I even looked under the bed" or something like that? It's not necessarily a bad chorus or anything. It doesn't have a problem like LOTAG where it just builds up to this "WOOOOOH" or anything. But I feel like I'm just being read a storybook or something. Maybe that's just me, I don't know. Everything else in the song seems to be fine, though. But when this album is REALLY BAD, it's songs like "Walk Away". The lyrics are surprisingly not that bad. But it has the same problem I have with "Know Your Enemy". Once you've heard the chorus, you've just heard the entire damn song. Seriously, this song is SO repetitive. Now, there's nothing wrong with repetition. Green Day did it perfectly with "Going to Pasalacqua". So what's wrong here? Honestly, I don't know. But this is also where personal taste comes in. Because that's what music is really about, right? Personal taste. Maybe it's the sense of emotion GTP provides? Maybe that I can slightly relate to it? Maybe it's because I think Billie Joe's voice has more of a melody on GTP than "Walk Away"? I really don't know. But of course, what's great about this album? Why, "Brutal Love" of course! Now, one might say the lyrics in this song don't make a whole lot of sense. But the lyrics totaly have to do with the message of this song? In my opinion, this song is about a struggling relationship and about how love can be just... Well, brutal. It's about how much your relationship struggles, you'll still have to try and stick to it. And here's also an example of very good repetition. This song might the most powerful ballad Green Day has ever done. It's no "Macy's Day Parade" or "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)", but it's just a great powerful song. Oh, and "Amanda" kicks ass. I could probably do this for every song on the album, but I don't wanna.

  20. Why do so many people like "Wild One" and say it's one the best in the trilogy? Come on, just look at this: "She gave up on Jesus for living on Venus" "I'm drinking the Kool-Aid, I jumped on the grenade" Lyrics are a HUGE problem with Dos. Not just Dos where it's the most prevalent, but the entire damn trilogy. Maybe a LITTLE less on Tré, but even Tré has lyric problems.

  22. I will agree with you that Kerplunk and Insomniac are better than Dookie, but it definitely does not suck! Same here! One of the best tracks on Dookie. I guess i'm in the minority when I say that the end of No One Knows with Billie overlapping vocals is probably my favorite part of the track! I just think it sounds really beautiful.

  28. I think that most people agree that the Trilogy is not the greatest work the band ever put out. However, almost everyone talks about how much they love certain songs, and how one song is a great lead in for another or how some songs are just plain fun. My opinion is that most people like the Trilogy more than they will admit. Since its my opinion, I guess it must be fact. Therefore, I conclude that you are a closet Trilogy lover. Absolutely not in the minority. I think it sounds just absolutely gorgeous. I will agree that he can't sing both parts in concert, but who wants to hear a song exactly the way it is on the album? I personally like to hear them mix things up.

  30. I cant even begin to tell you how much I agree with this. I think Brutal Love is the best in the Trilogy, it's not even wOrth debating but See You Tonight is a perfect introduction to Fuck Time. My second favorite Trilogy song. It's fun, it's true. Anyone with kids will know that your washing machine is a perpetual motion machine. As soon as I heard put your laundry basket down I was hooked. Love that song

  34. I understand that for many casual fans, the whole King for a Day, Shout, Hitchin a Ride, cover bonanza is an entertaining surprise for casual or first time concert goers, but I'd much rather remove that or a Know Your Enemy/BoBD type time slot in favor of some great live music. My dream show features precisely zero singles Castaway, Holden Caulfield, Cigs and Valentines, Shoplifter, American Eulogy, etc... Ooh the possibilities

  35. I see no reason why they can't do both in one show, it's really annoying when Brain Stew/random jam/Jaded gets half an hour a night. We need an official live version beyond Storytellers, at least.
