Can we get some love for the hidden gems on Kerplunk such as "One of My Lies", "No One Knows", "80", "One For the Razorbacks", "Words I Might Have Ate", "Private Ale", "Android" and the Sweet Children songs?
I'll accept that it's perfect for the song, but you all know how I feel about the song There's no denying it's one of the best basslines of all time, and is obviously instantly recognisablable, but I still prefer Sassafras Roots. It's so much more fun and energetic.
And yes, I'm leaving "recognisablable" in this post because it's one of the best autocorrects ever and my new favourite word.
The Longview bassline captures the essence of the song perfectly. It is just as repetitive, brain melting and occasionally annoying as it should be. For the song is about boredom, frustration and repetition. So the bass part suits it perfectly. It isn't that spectacular when you take it out of its context but as it is it's perfect.
The volume is blown out so that the waveform is too big and certain frequencies are cut out of the mix. Cymbal crashes cut out, guitars are compressed together, etc. It also mixed out the television noises you hear on the HD Tracks/vinyl version of Homecoming. Once you've noticed it it's really unpleasant, and as everything is loud it takes a lot of nuance and dynamic range out of the music.
Green Day mentioned in this article on 20 bands overdue to play in Indianapolis. http://www.indystar.com/story/entertainment/music/2014/11/01/styles-niall-direction-beyonce-rihanna-kanye-u2-stones-indianapolis/18308267/
Corey Taylor from Slipknot did an interview with Larry King and was asked what he has on his iPod and one of the bands he mentioned was Green Day. Found that really interesting.
