  1. We also shouldn't forget that the band sounded infinitely better with Butch Vig behind the desk than they ever have with Rob, but I guess that's just a matter of personal taste.

  2. As much as I like a good conspiracy theory, why would Rob Cavallo sabotage the band that probably made him the most money of his career? He is first and foremost a business man and he is there to make money. He would have lost millions of dollars by deliberately sabotaging them.

  3. Judging by interviews at the time I think there's a good chance he was pretty messed up on drink/drugs and going through personal problems during other instances of him stripping off in the 90s too, have to say I find it a bit silly to treat photos/videos from iHeart as a totally sacred and solemn thing but photos/videos from every other time he was messed up on stage and going through personal issues to whatever extent as just fine and dandy. In any case there's no requirement to spoiler anything in this thread unless you want to, there's no rule that "revealed" photos have to be attractive to be posted.

  4. I don't think changing the producer necessarily meant that they were not getting along with Cavallo. What if they just wanted to sound different and thought Vig was more capable of making them sound like they wanted to? Not everything has to be so dramatic And when it comes to the production on trilogy, whether one likes it or not, one must understand it was surely a collective decision and nobody alone is to blame. Besides, I don't find the production on the trilogy as bad as people say it is.

  5. "Never attribute to malice what could have come about through incompetence or indifference." I have no problem believing Cavallo didn't give the Trilogy 100% of his talent and ability—it's not at all hard to see that, especially when the project is so different from what the band envisioned—but I don't buy that he deliberately went out of his way to wreak destruction on the three albums. Not to mention if it were simply a matter of being irked that the band had left him, why not sabotage them on AI? Sure, he was still executive producer on Warning, bu the band definitely shafted him after having him produce three albums for them, one of which was their breakthrough.

  6. Nice end to a great series of articles, even if he couldn't take the time to verify the spelling of the name of the song. http://www.popmatters.com/post/187717-united-states-of-rage-and-love-green-day-whatshername/

  7. http://www.greendaycommunity.org/topic/91778-billie-joes-handwritten-trilogy-lyric-sheets-w-alt-lyricstitles-a-few-new-songs/ There's the handwritten lyrics of Gabriella (the link above) and part of the lyrics ended up as the bridge of Amanda. "I'm not playing with your mind, unless you think I am", or something. I don't know if they ever performed it, or anything, though.

  13. I've taken to mentally categorizing albums by ideal time to listen to them (the things I do instead of actually focusing on my schoolwork...). For Green Day, here's what I got: Spring: 39/Smooth, Kerplunk, Uno Midsummer: Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod Late Summer/Autumn: Warning, Stop Drop and Roll, Dos Late Autumn/Winter: American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown, Tre There really isn't ever an ideal time to listen to Dos, but I had to put it somewhere.
