  1. Graham you shameless rep-baiter That's ridiculously blatant response And also ridiculously great

  2. All in all, the conclusion is that the best thing that could happen is if Mike wrote the lyrics for their next album instead of Billie the Horny.

  4. If someone claims that than they're insane, I think. Billie has proven consistently capable of capturing moments in time with an ease and simplicity that is unrivaled. He's done it without ever even graduating high school. He's written hit songs for 20+ years and his catalog is over 200 songs deep, with a stunning number of lyrical gems. It is very very unlikely Mike could do this (and that isn't a knock against Mike, because essentially nobody else can) His ability to channel his own emotions into his songs while still leaving room for listeners to come away with their own understandings is second-to-none.

  5. I really want Mike to write more too and think he's a great writer, but to be fair--Oscar Wilde wrote a hell of a lot of bad poetry, but as his best stuff was utterly brilliant he's still a far greater writer than, say, an author of mysteries who never wrote anything bad but never wrote anything transcendent either. Now, I don't mean to belittle Mikes contributions, as the stuff he's written is among their best and I'd love for him to write more, I'm just saying that we can't necessarily say he's better than Billie solely because he hasn't faceplanted and Billie has.

  6. And he doesn't even get two pictures. Dammit, Lady Cobra.

  7. It's far easier to look like a great lyricist when you've written like 5 songs. He's never had to write to fill an album. Not saying he couldn't be great, but we don't really know

  8. I hate that Mike is on the cover of The Shite Album so much.

  9. No he's not, Foxboro are fronted by The Reverend Tinchy Stryder.

  10. Yeah I was alluding to the idea that a lot of people think that and maybe that's why it wasn't mentioned yet (although I personally like it). But turns out he didn't write it anyway.

  11. And Mike came up with the name Sassafras Roots. Not sure how that's relevant, but whatever.

  12. Let's not forget that Misery was a Billie/Mike/Tre collab and it's easily one of their best songs lyrically.

  13. The entire Trilogy was not bad, DOS was. There are some very good songs on Uno and Tre, maybe not brilliant, but very good. You cannot compare Mike and Billie as songwriters sheerly based on the volume. It is statistically impossible for Billie not to have written a bad song considering the amount he has written. All great composers have written dogs, Billie isn't the only one. He has written more brilliant music than bad. Mike's songs are good, not necessarily brilliant. Plus, if Mike did write a dog, I think that everyone would feel comfortable telling him it sucks. I'm not sure anyone would have the guts to say that to Billie.

  14. I love Green Day. I love Keplunk, Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, Warning, American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown and Tre. I like Uno and 39/Smooth. I hate Dos. Happy?

  18. His lyrics are good but don't get praised that often? He hasn't written that much and it probably isn't known by that many people that he's written anything to be fair so I can see the reason for the lack of recognition, but I agree what he has written is great and would love to see him write more. Billie said the same thing about him a few years ago actually so pretty sure the opportunity is there, I guess he just isn't as interested in songwriting. I like Billie the Horny's lyrics as well though

  19. There's an author, Joe Hart, who incorporates Green Day into his writing on occasion. He is from Minnesota and seems to be a fan. He's an excellent writer, I recommend checking him out if you are into the horror genre. Just now came across this paragraph from the novel "Lineage": "Lance reached to the dash and turned on the radio on, letting the sounds of Green Day pour out of the surrounding speakers..... By the time Billie Joe Armstrong quit telling everyone where he would be found when he came around, the city of Duluth rose up on his left..." He's done similar things in other writings. Always makes me smile.

  21. I love Mike's voice. Sadly his potential was being wasted since Governator pretty much sucks as a song. One of his rare vocal spotlights and then a song like that

  22. Panic Song and Homecoming were collaborations. I will throw in one of my favorites, Emenius Sleepus. So, there ate two Mike gems. Billie's had 200+. Can't compare.

  25. Mike has written some very, very good lyrics. However, there is alot more that goes into being a great lyricist then just a few songs. Most great lyricists are able to write consistently great songs over a long period of time and are able to get inspiration from a wide variety of subjects. Sometimes taking inspiration from very trivial subjects and adding profound lyrics. Who knew such great songs could develop out of a kid sitting on a couch jerking off or not being able to sleep? A large portion of Mike's songs seem to center around a similar subject. The songs are beautifully written. It seems that the songs he has writing credit on, that are different were co-written by Billie. He definitely has the potential to contribute more, songwriting wise, but I don't think he has proven he has the capacity to become a full fledged songwriter.

  26. It's not haha, but the idea that praising the band a lot is unusual/worth commenting on is a new one. It never used to be thought of as at all unusual to like all of the band's albums on here, so it's just kind of weird to be considered to stand out in any way just for liking a Green Day album And actually I don't think it is at all unusual, so just saying everyone should feel as free to express their love for anything Green Day's done as they are to express any dislikes

  27. I wouldn't go *that* far. Oh yeah, SDR is a great record, but Dos is the more recent and thus the more indicative of his current abilities. And I still don't get why disliking three albums is considered hating Green Day.

  28. Lmao . He openly admitted that they were the Foxboro Hot Tubs shortly after the band emerged though, it's not like The Network, so the point stands

  29. Maintaining creative control and writing good lyrics, are two different things. Even John Lennon had some missteps. Billie just put all of his on one record. We should actually thank him, we can just skip Dos instead of just skipping tracks. He made it much easier for us. I must maintain a bit of fangirlism and defend Billie a bit. He has given us 20+ years of some amazingly inspired, creative and imaginative lyrics. And he has been able to do it over and over again on a multitude of subjects. However, there was some serious messed up shit going on in his head when he wrote alot of these songs. I will give him a pass, he just better not do it again.

  30. Yeah some Mike written Frustrators stuff would be cool! I suppose if he had the burning need to write stuff he probably already would write stuff for other projects if not with Green Day but it's nice to have seen a little of what he can do and to know there's always the opportunity for him to do more.

  31. Mike is a far better lyricist than he ever gets credit for anyway, so yes.

  32. Man, the trilogy is awesome. I'd take Makeout Party over No Pride any day. Just a lot more fun imo.

  33. Billie's been horny his whole life. He just wrote about it more eloquently in the past.

  34. Or decent songwriting. After all everything comes down to the quality of the songs. And since lyrics have always been important when it comes to Green Day, let's do a comparison: Hey, you got yourself a pretty little mouth I think I wanna rub it the wrong way Do you wanna spin a bottle, play a game of chicken? Well, it's a tongue twister till your lips are bleeding Oh, anyhow, anywhere Kiss me there, oh kiss me there Oh, scream and shout, truth or dare Kiss me there, oh kiss me there Oh, you're so precious, you're a fucking delinquent Well I got myself jonesin' and I need some fixin' It's a makeout party on another dimension And it's gonna get crowded with some bad intensions Oh, anyhow, anywhere Kiss me there, oh kiss me there Oh, scream and shout, truth or dare Kiss me there, oh kiss me there VS I'm just a mutt And nowhere is my home Where dignity's a land mine In the school of lost hope I've panhandled for a life because I'm not afraid to beg Hand me down your lost and founds Of second hand regret You better swallow your pride Or you're gonna choke on it You better digest your values Because they turn to shit Honor's gonna knock you down Before your chance to stand up and fight I know I'm not the one I got no pride Sects of disconnection And traditions of lost faith No culture's worth a stream of piss Or a bullet in my face To heck with unity Separation's gonna kill us all Torn to shreds and disjointed Before the final fall

  35. And they also seemed to forget that when you only use A, E, D and G for half your songs having 37 songs on one record might not be the best move in terms of keeping the listener engaged.

  36. One thing I find awesome about Green Day is that even though the basic Green Day trademark sound is always recognisable, their sounds has never been absolutely the same on two albums, they have always added something new. No two Green Day albums sound absolutely the same. Every new album has introduced something new. That really makes them stand out since it would have been very easy just to repeat that same pop punk sound of Basket Case eternally. That is in my opinion very big big asset. Most of the bands I deem great - I mean, really great - have done so. With the Trilogy they, in some ways, ignored that principle and went backwards instead. The sign of this is that the best songs on the Trilogy (like Brutal Love or Kill the DJ) are also those ones that sound most dissimilar to the general sound of the Trilogy. Those songs were bold moves, fresh moves, and not just regression.

  40. Well, it would be bad thing (because they're not that great), if it was anything like One Direction. I'm sorry but where are we finding a song like "16" "Paper Lanterns" or "Going to Pasalaqcua" on a One Direction album
