  1. It kinda annoys me when fans try to deny Green Day are pop like it's some sort of terrible thing. Yes they are a rock band but there's no denying the fact that they have elements of pop in their music, and there's nothing wrong with that.

  3. It annoys me as well. Any artist is in the business to be successful. If they say they aren't they are liars. If all they wanted was to play good music, they would become tax attorneys and play to crowds of 200 people on the weekends. GD adapted to become successful and that is by adding elements of pop. Nothing wrong with that, as a matter of fact, it is too be admired.. Plus, just because you are pop, doesn't mean you are bad. There are plenty of good pop artists out there. Of course there are some that really suck too. I don't care what genre you call an artist, if the music is good, I listen.

  4. It's weird but some of the obvious filter effects on Demolicious actually sound cool. Overall though, it seemed that the band was having a lot of fun when they recorded the demos. The random guitar noodling, random grunts and vocal...things?...from Billie like he used to do on Insomniac, etc. It adds a lot of life and energy. Then they recorded the final versions like robots. Even the "sayoooh" at the start of Missing You sounds genuine on Demolicious and completely boring and forced on the Tre version.

  5. Dookie and their other mid nineties albums are actually produced pretty cleanly, they don't have a raw/demo-like sound. When they made Dookie they originally wanted it to sound really raw and mixed it that way but they found it didn't sound good so they changed their mind and mixed it again. It's very clear/clean sounding, as are all the albums that followed. I don't really associate Green Day with a particularly raw, punk sound, they've always had that pop influence (even on the first two albums, which sound rawer due to the resources that were available to them at that time but still have a large amount of pop elements in the music).

  6. so many of the demolicious recording are just so much better, when I listen back to the studio versions, it really makes me ask why they changed it? Its just so much more Green Day. It sounds...beautiful haha?

  7. Mike throws a load of extra fills in and it sounds awesome.

  8. The vocal filter on the Makeout Demo is pretty sexy to be honest.

  9. I could almost forgive the lyrics if it was on Kerplunk. But this was written by a 40 year old. Not one of his most inspiring efforts.

  10. Back when that was in regular rotation, I teased my friend about how it's her and Dejan Petković (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dejan_Petkovi%C4%87). That was my way to mask my crush on Billie Joe.

  11. No. It claims to be written by Laurie L, who is a fictional character made up in tribute to Larry Livermore. The author published it in the Tales Of The Blarg fanzine and it was lifted from there and included in the Kerplunk booklet.

  12. Brain Stew is thought to be a nickname for James Washburn, a friend of the band. Jack Acid were a Gilman band in '91. Gravy was Mike's cat, who died shortly before the album came out.

  13. That raw, punk sound probably ruins 1,039 SOSH for me. I tried listening to some of it some time ago (after a lot of time, maybe year or more tbh) and my ears were aching.

  14. That's just reminded me that when I bought International Superhits it had a black tray instead of a clear one for some reason. And one day I noticed that there was a pattern on the paper underneath where the CD was, I could see it through the little hole in the middle of the sticking up bit of plastic that holds the CD in place. And I took it apart and found this photo hiding underneath . That was great.

  16. That would take away the impact of when he does go up the last time he sings it. I think he's taking the piss! Putting on a snotty voice in imitation of how people (sometimes including himself) whinge about the old scene being gone. He makes legitimate complaints about the loss of it in the song but I like to think he's also acknowledging that hanging on to it and resisting change too much can be a negative/lame thing.

  17. Well, for starters, it's an entirely different recording than the one on Uno....

  20. I've listened to the acoustic Stay The Night twice. I just can't get through it, I hate it. As for the other two songs, I just think the Trilogy production actually suits them.

  21. Sex drugs and violence, 99 revolutions, angel blue, missing you and baby eyes are far better on Demolicious in my honest opinion
