I love that whole technique, it's dark in its own way and I think it heightens the impact of the lyrics. Especially coming from Yorkshire where everyone is "stiff upper lip" and repressed emotions, so putting something negative across in a light way is something I can really connect to. I don't think it's even particularly true of Green Day in general though, but it's something Bruce Springsteen and the Gaslight Anthem have built their careers around.
Blood Sex and Booze, I'd like to think, is at least partly humorous, isn't it? Wouldn't call the lyrics depressing, though.
Besides, depressing lyrics and uplifting music is an old trick, and it works.
A fucking Disneyland, on the other hand, is just plain creepy. Since obviously someone or something must be doing it with it.
I'm quite sure Billie farted at some point, within the last 2 hours. I felt in my soul. If that ain't news, I don't know what is. Also, I've been seeing posters all over Oslo, Billie's face is everywhere. I'll try to steal one and upload a decent picture later.
