  1. One YouTube video for Song of the Century ended with "Sing up the stars for meeeee".

  2. One of the things that defines Green Day and makes them great I'd say, the contrast and dark humour of depressing lyrics paired with a cheerful melody. "Throw me to the dogs, let them eat my flesh down to the wood, it feels so good" in the context of that song is kind of the opposite of depressing though , it's a sexual innuendo.

  3. I was wondering why this upset you, but then I realized: You thought this was a different thread! We have this thread and this thread for talking about Jesus. Have a great day!

  5. A good example of that is Chump - it sounds cheerful and light, but it's about random hatred.

  7. Come on, all sad songs don't have to be slow and the dark ones can sound cheerfully. If they did some of them would drop-dead boring and made lots of things sound the same. This technique broadens the variety of things you can do with your melody. Also it adds a certain feel I really love.

  9. I love that whole technique, it's dark in its own way and I think it heightens the impact of the lyrics. Especially coming from Yorkshire where everyone is "stiff upper lip" and repressed emotions, so putting something negative across in a light way is something I can really connect to. I don't think it's even particularly true of Green Day in general though, but it's something Bruce Springsteen and the Gaslight Anthem have built their careers around.

  10. Every time I listen to Stop Drop and Roll!!! I'm completely taken aback by how utterly fantastic it is. It's a shame it couldn't have been released as an actual Green Day album to give it a bigger platform. (It's also a great Halloween album for whatever reason, so it'll be getting a lot of spins this October.)

  11. Blood Sex and Booze, I'd like to think, is at least partly humorous, isn't it? Wouldn't call the lyrics depressing, though. Besides, depressing lyrics and uplifting music is an old trick, and it works. A fucking Disneyland, on the other hand, is just plain creepy. Since obviously someone or something must be doing it with it.

  12. I wanted to be helpful so I just Googled "Emenius Sleepus meaning" and it was the first thing that came up. Honest. But yeah you're all boring me to death.

  17. Just saw an old interview from when UNO came out. Billie says this line: "And then there's songs like Nuclear Family where I'm just like, I just write this shit and I don't even know what it means sometimes." Sounds about right, Billie.

  19. It's a pity though. Back then when he wrote most of the best lyrics of his career he sang them in a way that was nearly impossible to understand, and now when his lyrics would often be better if nobody got them, he sings them clearly
