So the liar doesn't like the smell of raw ham?4 points

I remember I once liked the Forgotten..... then I sobered up He could be using "stone" as a refrence to The Rock. Billie is looking for forgiveness from Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson as he lied to him about dieting or something.?4 points

I always took the 'stone' to be a headstone, asking for forgiveness too late from someone they'd lost. Never given it any thought as to how that might fit with the rest of the lyrics mind...3 points

"I don't feel strange, it's more like haunted" pretty much sums up all I think is wrong with those lyrics. "I can’t quite put my finger on it But it’s like a child that was left behind" First he says he does not have a clue what it is, and then he uses a metaphor that only makes things even more confusing. "Like losing faith to our abandon" And what the heck this even means? Is it the same Abandon who causes those scars that they "share"? I appreciate good poetry and good allegories and metaphors when I see ones, but to me the Forgotten just feels like a bunch of metaphors and aforisms that may sound deep, but actually have nought substance. The chorus is lyrically decent, but to me it seems to be more like your usual "seize the day"-stuff and nothing special. Where in the world did my mind go, as our spirits walk on earth equivocal but examious these sonorous words I blurt Once I used to make some sense but then I bought a rhyming book now it all sounds so abstruse but to me it all seems off the hook Do I make a sagacious impression Like the first man on the moon Don't ask what that stands for Or you gonna look like a fool.3 points

I think most people agree, but pretty much everyone has different ideas of what songs would/should be on the one album.2 points

Dammit why didn't I think of that? Could not think of a good analogy there at all! Why didn't I "Just Bring It" to the table?!1 point

Yeah but lying about what, why he's asking forgiveness, why it's relevant to mention in the first place, etc.1 point

The completely out-of-character snarkiness in this took me aback.1 point

I always looked at the line like the "liar" is looking for forgiveness in the wrong places, and looking for forgiveness that he's not going to get anywhere.1 point

Speaking of 21 Guns, I like the live version of 21 Guns better than the studio...1 point

And your thoughts have taken their toll When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul Your faith walks on broken glass and the hangover doesn't pass Nothing's ever built to last, you're in ruins this and Did you try to live on your own? When you burned down the house and home? Did you stand too close to the fire? Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone this from 21 Guns definitely tops Well, don’t look away from the arms of a bad dream Don’t look away, sometimes you’re better lost than to be seen Don’t look away from the arms of a moment Don’t look away from the arms of tomorrow Don’t look away from the arms of a moment Don’t look away from the arms of love 21 Guns definitely has a bit of that vagueness to it, so it's a valid comparison but I think 21 Guns has far better lyrics and a far better composition1 point

Am I the only one who thinks that the Forgotten would be perfectly tolerable if it had different lyrics the music itself isn't really that bad, if you ask me.1 point

It only really struck me yesterday how incredible the lyrics of Jesus Of Suburbia are. Obviously loads of people love the "home is where the heart is" line, but every single verse speaks to me on some level. For a song with so many lines to be so consistently great lyrically is just mindblowing. There's just so much that seems to get overlooked due to its length. Plus the craftsmanship in putting so many "soundbite" type lines together and making it not seem over the top is admirable.1 point
