Yeah exactly! Being vulgar and blunt is the whole point of that song so it's hardly a flaw. The lyrics, the music....it's a half fun and half creepy debauched mid-life crisis party.5 points

And your thoughts have taken their toll When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul Your faith walks on broken glass and the hangover doesn't pass Nothing's ever built to last, you're in ruins this and Did you try to live on your own? When you burned down the house and home? Did you stand too close to the fire? Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone this from 21 Guns definitely tops Well, don’t look away from the arms of a bad dream Don’t look away, sometimes you’re better lost than to be seen Don’t look away from the arms of a moment Don’t look away from the arms of tomorrow Don’t look away from the arms of a moment Don’t look away from the arms of love 21 Guns definitely has a bit of that vagueness to it, so it's a valid comparison but I think 21 Guns has far better lyrics and a far better composition4 points

It's a pity though. Back then when he wrote most of the best lyrics of his career he sang them in a way that was nearly impossible to understand, and now when his lyrics would often be better if nobody got them, he sings them clearly4 points

Yeah, the vagueness is the similarity I'm referring to. In terms of which is better it's subjective though, and you've just posted my favourite part of The Forgotten so it doesn't convince me . I really like those lyrics, simple and to the (very worthwhile) point about embracing the important things.3 points

But it has potential. If it had better lyrics and a bit more interesting arrangement, it could work. I think actually the cover you posted supports that point of view. And it just makes it even more embarrassing how much that song sucks as it is.3 points

Am I the only one who thinks that the Forgotten would be perfectly tolerable if it had different lyrics the music itself isn't really that bad, if you ask me.3 points

Homecoming is everyone's favourite Green Day song. Some people just don't know it yet.3 points

The thing I love about Tim is no matter how much he's at your throat in a conversation he'll always perfectly sincerely jump to your defense in another thread if he thinks you're in the right.3 points

I always believed stone was meant to be a metaphor for someone cold and uncaring.2 points

15.06.1991, Toe Jam, Long Beach, California, USA 13.03.1994, The Masquerade, Atlanta, Georgia, USA - this the gig Thibaut was talking about. Pennywise also played. But I have some serious doubts about the lineup - Tilt supported Green Day on that tour. Plus, official Offspring site list Mar. 13, 1994 date as: Mar 13, 1994 - Trenton, NJ - City Gardens - w/ Pennywise I think there were more shows but I'm not entirely sure.2 points

Funny to think that a big portion of these misheard lyrics are from JoS. As a matter a fact, I have my own: "Like the lonely bitches of a shopping mall." It makes total sense too.2 points

The Forgotten definitely isn't a lyrical masterpiece, but this part of 21 Guns Just makes zero sense and the entire of the Forgotten is better than this line. It's just bad. Like, what does "standing too close to the fire" or what it is metaphor for, have to do with a liar looking for forgiveness in the wrong place. And why a stone. Who would look for forgiveness in a stone? I get that it's supposed to be something that can't/doesn't feel emotions or something so it can't give forgiveness either, but stone is such a random word to use there and it sounds really weird. I don't care if this is an unpopular opinion or not, it's bad line, period.1 point

If Green Day wants to do piano ballads with really simple piano than you may as well give us some great vocal moments (See: Last Night on Earth). The Forgotten's vagueness could be forgiven if it came with some legit vocals1 point

Now that Green Day is broken up, I'm really upset that I didn't get better seats last tour. Oh well. I'll just have to wait until the reunion tour.1 point

I don't think the music is boring, I've never heard them go as full on classical and pretty as that before and I find that impressive. I also don't know how the lyrics can be considered "absurd", they're a bit fluffy in places but mostly simple. Bit like, say, the lyrics of 21 Guns.1 point

Gocha, I don't know much about what specific mics they recorded with. I know a lot of studios will fuck around with different ones though, also fuck those are expensive.1 point

How do you know the female dog was a werewolf instead of just...well, a regular dog? In which case, Jimmy would not be a werewolf per se but a man-dog hybrid. Or just a talking dog, who knows. Not to mention, there's also a likely possibility that 'Edgar Allan Poe' here denotes, not the famous author, but a second cousin of his twice removed who share the same name (1871-1961). This possibility allows us to push the date of St. Jimmy's birth forward to around the early-to-mid 20th century, at the latest. Assuming - contrary to your opinion - that the events of AI, as traditional understanding has it, occurs during the 2000s, we must then assume that St. Jimmy at the time of meeting JoS was either elderly or (as you mention) unaging/semi-immortal. That the fact that he can commit suicide may point that his 'immortality' consists of not being able to age or get ill, yet can still die by being killed - in a sense, kind of like Tolkien's Elves. Speaking of which, I think a more interesting point for scholarly research is JoS' parents: Rage and Love. There's the fact that their names are quite uncommon, and the fact that a Brad is named in the song. Did Rage (JoS' biological father) die early - which would mean that Brad is a stepfather of sorts to JoS? What are you talking about? Uno's like, invented around the 1970s or something...oooh, you meant the album.1 point

It always has been, tbh. I'd rather blast Nightlife in front if mt school than The Forgotten. The Forgotten is 10x more embarrassing. Lol no Out of all the people that give communism a bad name, you're like #41 point

I don't ever listen to Nightlife, but I'd prefer Green Day experiment instead of churning out plain boring songs like The Forgotten.1 point

As i listened to Extraordinary Girl yesterday, I noticed that the drum beat in the verse is more or less identical to Know Your Enemy. Fucking rip-offs! No, but seriously though, I'd never noticed before.1 point
