  1. We have as much evidence that they are gonna break up as evidence they aren't: none.

  2. The fact that DookieLukie knows more about the band's internal affairs than Billie does.

  3. You and your cryptic words...nobody can ever be too sure.

  4. i've heard billie say some variation of the coffin thing, or something along the same lines, at every show i've been to (sheffield '09, wembley stadium '10, leeds fest '13).

  5. Actually, if he believes it then, to him, it's true. So that example is really lacking in its merit.

  6. Because they've constantly and consistently said they plan to carry on until one of them is "in a coffin" etc throughout their whole career, and they only ever say positive things about the future of the band? It's always possible that any band could break up of course as we never know everything and even they don't know what might happen in the future, but as it stands there's tons of evidence of them not wanting to break up and no evidence of them wanting to.

  7. There's something super off putting about those last tweets. If you don't know someone enough to know their names or you refer to them as 'green day bassist's daughter' or 'green day bassist' then you've got no business putting up photos of them.

  8. I think people also have to realize it's not like it was just some random critic shitting on them. My understanding is this is someone who actively got Green Day's closest friends to basically disown them. They got a lot of animosity from people they loved and the place they considered like a home and that guy lead the charge. It's more than just a bad review in some zine.

  9. I don't even see the problem tbh, if someone was an asshole their entire life that doesn't change just because they're dead.

  10. this is the most amazing conversation i've seen on here in a while on topic, i would be really shocked if green day broke up, but i wouldn't care if they did.

  11. They're honestly not gonna break up. They love what they do too much, I never had any doubt.

  12. I can totally understand your point of view as well. I guess I'm just more forgiving since I view song writing as a way for people to process their feelings, so I liken it to writing in a diary.

  13. You knew about the trilogy 10 years ago??? Why didn't you warn the band?

  14. Having one (three) unsuccessful album doesn't automatically mean they hate music and want to pack up. I think if anything they're gonna be more eager to prove themselves after the trilogy.

  15. Nah he's said it loads of times dating back to like the Warning era, it's kind of a thing he says. The point is you can find endless quotes from them saying stuff like that, about staying together and the future of the band being positive, but you won't find any quotes from them saying anything about the band ending, even just hypothetically saying if one day in the distant when the band's over etc. They always talk about the band in terms of it going on, and up to and including their most recent interviews they've only spoken positively about it. All the evidence points that way so there's not any particular reason to think the opposite, unless it's in an "any band could break up no matter what they say" kind of way.

  16. When I said "seemed tired" I didn't mean to suggest anything but the fact that they were actually tired But yes, you're probably right
    1 point
  17. To be honest, they probably seemed tired because they actually were tired - when the Trilogy tour started, it was pretty much constant travelling/playing/travelling again. Even Green Day need to rest sometimes.

  19. Yeah I'm pretty sure Ha Ha You're Dead was an extra song they recorded for Shenanigans, like so there was a new song to make it more worth having. Also when have the band said it's about Tim Yohannan? It's possible that it is but I'm not aware of them ever saying that. Could just as easily be a general song about spitefulness/hating someone so much you'd be glad if they were dead, like Pinhead Gunpowder's song At Your Funeral (written by Aaron but sung by Billie) released the year before.

  20. Interesting, German Wikipedia says Ha ha you're dead is the only song on Shenanigans that isn't an outtake or a cover.

  21. Everyone here scoffs at the idea of Green Day breaking up, and idk why. I'd love if they kept making music forever, obviously, but after this last tour, I just didn't see any evidence of enthusiasm or desire left. I think they'd all grown out of it. Should they go on? Yes. Will they? Eh doubtful.

  22. A couple of people on here reckon Green Day is gonna break up soon. This is based on how crap the Trilogy did and the Billie Joe's perceived ego. Personally, I don't buy it, but time will tell.

  23. If they play 80 at my inevitable first GD concert I'll lose my goddamn mind.

  24. I think a song is what you make it. I can listen to a song like that as a nice release of my anger. That's how I felt back in high school anyway. People pissed me off and that song was a good outlet for that. It's definitely really fucking harsh. But most of Green Day's songs I listen to and appreciate them for what they mean to me and how I can apply them to my own story. I think that's one of the best things about Billie Joe's writing.

  26. Let's be fair, there aren't a whole lot of standouts on it; "Ha Ha You're Dead" is the only one that would make my top forty GD songs. For a compilation it's not half-bad, but obviously it pales in comparison to most of their other work. Same reason why you don't often see people discussing the album-exclusive songs from The Beatles Anthology demo compilation.

  28. There's not enough Jason Freese in this thread. I honestly think he was the most entertaining member of the band on the Breakdown tour. The lack of saxophone at the most recent shows was a bit of a disappointment.

  29. Yeah, most notably in the Razorbacks solo but there's also The Grouch, She's A Rebel, Pulling Teeth, maybe Fuck Time, and quite a few on the first two albums.

  30. I adore Whatsername and it's the perfect closer to the album, and some of the lyrics are utterly haunting. But the way the album closes with Bille rhyming time with time really grates on me.

  31. I don't really see how the bass solo ruins it. It doesn't kill the momentum, it adds dynamic contrast. Anyway, I'd put Extraordinary Girl, St Jimmy and WMUWSE in the bottom three, and other than She's A Rebel I don't see how anything could go in fourth apart from Holiday.

  32. I honestly think Nuclear Family and Stay The Night is the best two song opener apart from Dookie.

  33. The Grouch, Redundant and Scattered is the best three song run on any Green Day album.

  35. The biggest fail was when I listened to Nuclear Family for the first time. I heard "I just want some action, so give me Mike Dirnt" instead of "give me my turn". Omfg
