  1. I agree that it bothers me a bit that they borrowed that melody, but on the other hand, the best part of it that comes in the end is original. And after all, they gave Cooke a credit, so there's nothing morally wrong with it. Besides, the build-up is amazingly well done. All in all, it is one of the best songs on the Trilogy.

  2. You are right. My apologies. Smooth has three D-words and one F-bomb. I either got it and Kerplunk mixed up, or just plain couldn't count back in 2005 when I made the powerpoint. You are right. 3. Yeah it even says there's only a swear word in Knowledge and other than that Green Day don't swear in the "My Adventure With Green Day" story haha. Maybe Billie just pronounced some words so unclearly they sound a bit like fuck to some ears? A lot of complaints about it seem to be from people who think he's singing about a 16 year old (I don't know if they couldn't hear the rest of the lyrics or something). I love it! A romantic and nostalgic punk rock love story.

  7. What's not to like? The lyrics are fantastic, the solo is rocket-fueled, the pounding of the drums after each verse is like an assault, the video is probably the best they've ever done. Definitely in my top three GD songs.

  9. I saw this earlier on. It looks like the guy's got a pretty good handle on how Billie solos and he creates a pretty cool-sounding solo out of it.

  11. Nope, he's aged. His voice has changed, his attitude has changed, his hair color has changed. They've all aged well, but I disagree whenever people say he hasn't aged.

  12. Nice Guys Finish Last on GD Rockband sucks. I didn't know the song before I got the game, and the giant pause in the chorus always screwed me up so bad. I never knew there was supposed to be a "fucking" there until after I got into Nimrod.

  13. Jingle bells, Billie smells, Tre Cool laid an egg, Jason Freese cut the cheese and Matika got away.

  14. It's really quite bizarre when you consider how much more crafted, intelligent and meaningful the lyrics on Nimrod are compared to those on the Trilogy. Going into the studio without lyrics is probably the best thing he could do at this point.

  15. I can't get over that moment in Quatro when Billie says Nimrod is lyrically a nightmare and then claims he would never go to the studio without lyrics again, then describes how carefully he's working on the Trilogy lyrics. He seems to be sure he's working on a genuine masterrpiece or something. I think it's always interesting to see an artist to judge his own work, most people usually see their own creations differently than the audience and it helps us to understand the author's intentions. Such opinions usually explain a lot, but I just can't get how this idea could even occur to him.

  24. Wow, we've gone from Green Day to Shakespeare to Breaking Bad to Star Wars to Kevin Smith. That has to be some kind of record.

  25. That's ironic, because before he knew Darth Vader's name, he simply referred to him as "the black guy"

  31. Larry Livermore @LarryLivermore · Aug 13 What was the last lookout record band you saw live? (On the... — I don't know, probably Green Day or the Potatomen. Larry Livermore @LarryLivermore Many Green Day fans consider their newest trilogy of albums to contain the very worst tracks released in their catalogue to date. Plagued with lazy songwriting, including re-hashing chords and melodies and wrought with juvenile lyrical content. If you've listened, what do you think? Have you thought about becoming a rock critic? ask.fm/a/b2goin9c Larry Livermore @LarryLivermore · Aug 12 Would you like to play with Green Day at any concert? Been there, done that. They opened for us a bunch of times. Larry Livermore @LarryLivermore · Aug 12 It´s true that Tim Armstrong invite Billie Joe to be in Rancid? — Yes. Larry Livermore @LarryLivermore · Aug 11 Do you know if John Kiffmeyer regretted leaving Green Day? — No. Larry Livermore @LarryLivermore · Aug 10 Just watched another docu with you in, this time about Green Day. You said that Dookie didn't click with you as much as their first 2 offerings and that You preferred American idiot. What do you make of Warning and Nimrod? I think American Idiot is their best release, followed by the two Lookout records, followed by Dookie. The others come after that.
