For some reason the first image that came to mind was him singing Wannabe by the Spice Girls. "I wanna-ha, I wanna-ha, I wanna-ha, I wanna-ha, I really really really wanna zig-a-zig Führer."4 points

As many of you may know, FXX is airing The Simpsons in its entirety including the movie. Two of the writers of the film - David Mirkin and Al Jean - were tweeting tidbits about the movie. I tweeted to them and got a response back from Al Jean. I asked, "How were Green Day in terms of recording lines and then the theme song? Were they thrilled to be killed off? Al Jean, "We flew up to SF to record them and they were really cool. Amazing guitar collection!" Here's the link to our twitter conversation: https://twitter.com/AndyJardy/status/505507416667357184 Just thought this was worth mentioning. Pretty neat to hear from one of the writers!3 points

The main problem of his one-liners is that they usually turn out pretty dull.2 points

He didn't run out of ideas. He just decided to write songs about things in his life that aren't so serious. Fuck time is so awesome for this same reason. It's simple.2 points

I can't get over that moment in Quatro when Billie says Nimrod is lyrically a nightmare and then claims he would never go to the studio without lyrics again, then describes how carefully he's working on the Trilogy lyrics. He seems to be sure he's working on a genuine masterrpiece or something. I think it's always interesting to see an artist to judge his own work, most people usually see their own creations differently than the audience and it helps us to understand the author's intentions. Such opinions usually explain a lot, but I just can't get how this idea could even occur to him.2 points

Darn, I wanted Dookie Lukie to assess my self-worth for me before he got suspended. Now I'll never know how to attain wealth irl.2 points

The unfortunate difference between you and Jesus is that you exist. Now seriously, stop derailing this thread and be gone. Yeah ok.2 points

"And you're always cracking the same old lines again" That line describes perfectly the posting strategies of some of the members. Really, get over with it all ready .2 points

These are awesome! The vocals are what really make me love them. She's a fantastic singer. And I've always just loved bare acoustic guitar.2 points

"I wanna choke you till you're blue in the face"? honestly? Simple maybe, but represents exactly what I usually hate in rock lyrics. I have no problems with the subject of the song but that one sentence is kinda horrible in many ways.1 point

Nah, but It's really close to the original.1 point

Listening to the Florence covers, and I think they're really cool. Idk if they're the best covers I've ever heard, but I always enjoy listening to artists change up the songs a bit. With her delivery and the stripped down set up, the quick melodies and lyrics that you don't necessarily catch when GD plays it shine through. I actually think the Grouch cover is comparable to the original. Worry Rock is actually better, I think.1 point

They played it at The Bridge School Benefit gig, I'd link it but I'm on my iPod.1 point

It could also be argued that Green Day should be higher on the list. I know its not the greatest source, but last year Green Day was the second most popular artist world wide on Last.fm. Plus I think a big issue with the latest live concerts not selling out is due to very little people having any idea they are doing anything. Like at Soundwave, if you didn't see the poster or happen to catch the ad it is very unlikely people would know they were even on the lineup and the band hardly promoted it and the media focused on other bands as the guys didn't want to talk to the media, since iheart. Same with trilogy sales. The list is pretty messed up. As there are bands who would have a hard time even half filling a small headline show in most places. I think they are more referring to biggest bands in their office not the world. I mean Biffy Clyro, come on huge in the UK, in Australia they are small venue tour out here next week and no shows have sold out. I hear they are not that big in the US either. Then there is You Me At Six, not even close to Biffy Clyro in their home, however they seem to have more overseas support. They are pretty big here, doing a small - medium tour here starting next weeks, some shows are sold out (including their biggest venue) and one sold out within 24 hours, but they constantly say they have a lot of trouble in the US, and are only now doing a small headline tour. Never heard of Black Stone Cherry. The Pretty Reckless, they are still small enough to be playing warped and couldn't even headline a small tour in most places around the world. Then there is Paramore, huge in the US, Australia and I assume the UK, not sure on Europe though, I know they had a lot of trouble there before but the new album may of changed that, so thats a maybe. A little further back on the list there is Jimmy Eat World, I thought I heard they were having a lot of issues because they got dumped by their record label and didn't know if they would release a new album, then they released Damage but it didn't sell all that great. I mean Uno and Dos did better and it only beat tre by 1 on the billboard top 200. So their list really conflicts with attendance and sales. So it is most likely bands they like the most in the office, or what they are exposed to the most in the mags.1 point

Denial is a wonderful thing It's weird Gene is one of the biggest fucking douche bags around (I dunno who's bigger one him or Lars...) but I loved that show on A&E that he had1 point

This fucking thread, omg... Pure GDC gold. Once he compared himself to Jesus, I was crying real tears. What unpopular opinions were we discussing again? Jesus' existence? Star Wars fanboy behavior? Seems relevant.1 point

"She" is my favorite recording on AAF. Billie's vocals and Mike's bass are just perfect. "Going to Pasalacqua" is a close second, though I can't decide if I prefer the AAF version or the one from Jaded in Chicago.1 point

Florence + The Machine's Nimrod is better than the original (which is my second-favorite GD album, so that's saying something).1 point

I am sick of oversexualisation of the society and describing sex as the ultimate reward, health device, key to happiness and whatever. Seriously, media, fuck off. In this context, it's even more offensive.1 point

*sigh* Somebody get the Kerrang people a world map and a calender. Yes, it is a year since Green Day played in England but guess what...there are other countries too *gasp*. Also (Kerrang folk may need to sit down for this part) there are TWELVE months in a year not six. Six months ago Green Day were in a place called Australia where they played gigs (still with me Kerrang?). So maybe they should change their little attention grabbing headline to "lost five or six months depending on if we decide to recognise Foxboro Hottubs as a band in their own right for a change" (which of course is even more amusing as Kerrang themselves wrote about GD taking a break in March...). Kerrang being pathetic as usual.1 point
