  1. I agree something seemed a bit off at Reading. But at Brixton a few days earlier Billie was on fire. It's unfair to decide he's lost it or whatever based on one performance. We've come to expect a hell of a lot from him and the fact is even the best performers in the world have off nights.

  2. Indeed, and that time the label was *completely* justified--I'd read the last few pages of the Confessions thread were I you. I can't tell if I want to slap you or think that was an awesome pun.

  3. Well I was also called a troll for having differing opinions on the Feminists thread but that's a whole different story Green Day are just trying to keep up with modern music styles by dropping the bass.

  4. Such argument from authority. Very fallacy. Wow. Seriously, saying "they're professionals, they know what they're doing" is possibly the worst argument you could make. Professionals fuck up all the time; if that weren't the case, there would be no such thing as a bad record, which there are plenty of. Also, if we aren't allowed to complain about anything because "an artist makes music for himself", you have no right to constantly complain about AI. Of course, that argument is bullshit for reasons I shouldn't have to spell out, but I'll spell them out anyway: they're selling that music to us. If they're marketing music to us, we should expect to be pleased with the product. And if not, we have every right to complain.

  5. I'd rather take sober, a bit more boring Billie than a hyper-active Billie on drugs. Besides, I don't see that much difference. And its only natural that shortly after the rehab he wasn't yet as good as he used to be. A rehab is a hard experience.

  13. There is such a thing as "bad production" when the vocal effects are too loud. They tried to do a "live-sounding" album and it sounds totally unnatural.

  14. I don't get at all why people get annoyed by the word "bleed" in Drama Queen. I mean, it's something that naturally happens, and I think most of Green Day fans are open-minded enough not to care about it. It could even mean something very different, like "she's old enough to suffer" or "she's old enough to be offended". It just doesn't bother me at all, help me to figure out what gets to you so much please.

  16. I don't think he was always drunk when playing live before. I haven't noticed much difference between "before" and "after", probably because whether he was under the influence of anything or not and loads of other factors besides that which might affect his performance have always varied a lot between shows so there's always been various differences between them. I can see your point about crowds at festivals, but at Reading bands often play whole albums, seems to be kind of a tradition (and a well liked one). Plus Dookie itself has 3 or 4 hits on it, adding that to the rest of the songs they played there must've been a fair few reasonably well known ones, with or without Dookie there still would've been some that lots of people knew and some that lots of people didn't.

  21. Something surprising happens at the eleventh hour of SATELLITE FLIGHT, however, and it bears mentioning. The sci-fi synths drop away, as does the dead-eyed chest-puffing. Cudi sings—sweetly, modestly, and in tune—over nothing but some guitar, finger-picked with athe level of skill that suggests a deep study of Green Day's "All By Myself" Review from Pitchfork Mag of Kid Cudi's Satellite Flight references All By Myself. Caught my eye because the idea of anyone studying All By Myself in depth amuses me.

  23. I don't know anything about production but I know I've always loved Uno Dos and Tre's. You can hear every instrument/bit of singing/element of the music so clearly, which I've craved but not got on other albums. I enjoy it.

  24. True true, although there is a point where bad production is a fact rather than opinion, the trilogy production isn't that bad in the grand scheme of things but for Green Day it's pretty weak.

  26. Best/Worst of VMA Performances: http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20302134_20627757,00.html?stitched#21209874 Green Day, ''Let Yourself Go'' Leave it to the sole punk band on the bill to paint an X on the ground and call it a stage. Playing a loud-fast bruiser from their forthcoming album ¡Uno!, Green Day kept it classic: no neon pyramids,no dancing lips, just the best bad attitude of the night. (''Who wants to be on TV?'' sneered Billie Joe. ''Let's go!'') Extra points for wearing that Pussy Riot t-shirt, backup guy. B+ "backup guy"

  27. I think the "daddy's little bundle of joy" line is just as creepy, the whole chorus is. If it was meant literally and sincerely, like he was talking about a daughter or something, then it would totally make me cringe. But since it's meant to depict something creepy (young women being exploited) it's appropriate that it's creepy, so it doesn't.

  28. The guitars are too low and clean, the bass doesn't cut through enough, the vocal filters are too high and the snare is a bit weak.
