  1. Well that was a thoroughly well-reasoned and thoughtful critique that addressed all of his points.

  2. It's the only thing your comments are good for, tbh.

  3. Well since no one else (besides Tom) is defending the beautiful gem that is Macy's Day Parade I suppose I will. It is hands down one of the best songs in their catalog. It doesn't quite match Good Riddance because Good Riddance has a better riff and lyrics that are timeless. But what it lacks in guitar creativity it more than makes up for in it's absolutely beautiful building resonance. The song begins slowly and in a low key then builds gradually with each verse. Accompanied by these ever so faint strings that are just barely noticeable. But they build with Billie's voice. As does the tempo. It all builds together and creates this wonderfully simple and slightly nostalgic feeling. Then I realized what it took To tell the difference between Thieves and crooks A lesson learned to me and you This^ is probably my favorite vocal moment from Billie ever. The run on "you" is spectacular.

  4. St. Jimmy is strong because of how tight it's played on the album. When they play it live it goes a little too fast and it becomes sloppy, which takes a way a lot of the strength and power of the song. Becomes more of a generic fast guitar song, then.

  5. And bingo was his name-o. I usually include this caveat in my obligatory bullet points on why the Trilogy is sub par, but it fails to do anything for GD's sound. If they truly were returning to their pre-concept album days, then you would expect an increased focus on what earned them success, which includes everything that you said. But it doesn't do that. It doesn't advance GD's sound as ALL of their albums from 39/smooth through 21CB had, and it doesn't include much of what made them a successful band to begin with.

  6. Holy shit, I never realized that before. Shows how much I listen to it.

  7. I think that kinda works with the theme of the song though, slowly going crazy with your mind eating away at you.

  8. I'd argue that, at times, Warning is a more politically-charged album than American Idiot. I will never understand the "political sellouts" argument in reference to AI. Warning had plenty of songs with a theme of societal criticism (Warning, Macy's Day Parade, Minority), which in my opinion is what "political" music is all about. It makes for a pretty fluid transition into AI. Their progression as a band isn't exactly surprising. Don't most of these obviously valid points contradict that statement? The defining "Green Day" characteristics (harmonies, bass lines, clever lyrics, distorted guitars) aren't in the trilogy at all, and therefore it is hardly a "return to its roots."

  10. Yeah, I don't think they've said anything. Stupid people arguing with false points. Great, now that I watched that one 5sos video, youtube thinks I want to subscribe to every boyband vevo channel. Fuck off ye twats.

  11. But Mr Whirly had a catastrophic incident. Can't you at least try to be nice to him?

  13. Brain Stew really needs Jaded to complete it. Together, they're my favorite song on Insomniac.

  15. It's funny because all of you are disagreeing with Seagull and saying his opinion is stupid and that he's trolling, yet you keep egging him on and getting all offended. Good Lord, ignore him!

  16. No, cause then we call him out, and get rep from other people that dislike him. Rep is life -Adam

  17. Well, at least you put Rest in the proper position.

  18. This is getting ridiculous. If Steven has that intention of keeping reiterating his opinion with not much depth and certainly with nothing new to say, could we just ignore him? Like, there's been so many pages wasted already. That conversation (if it even deserves to be called a conversation) leads absolutely nowhere.

  22. This entirely. And just the lyrics overall are amongst the best Billie has ever written. Maybe not the cleverest or most complex, but just simple, to the point and utterly fantastic.

  23. As far as I understand a real fan is one who agrees with Steven. I should have a grade in ornithology.

  24. AI (the single) is important. To deny that is simply an individual looking for ways to be controversial. Warning was a commercial flop. The band was on the cusp of retiring. The public simply wasn't interested in Green Day anymore. Then, in the middle of an era where Bush was POPULAR (he got re-elected, btw), Green Day release their first single, American Idiot. The song immediately captured the public's attention, amassing radio play and sales in large quantities. AI was the first GD song to be featured on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at 61. Bottom line is, the song made an impact. Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alienation. This line garnered a lot of praise from critics everywhere. AI served it's purpose perfectly. It got GD back on the map, it captured the public's attention. It made a statement.

  26. St Jimmys not my thing either, its not bad, but that kind of Green Day songs do not appeal to me. Too fast. Too derivative.

  28. No, they've never made any comments about it. Some foolish person on tumblr decided to add some fake captions to some random screencaps of Billie being interviewed, of him saying how great 5sos are. Really bad ones that don't even sound like him. Maybe that's where that false info has come from. Or they might just be talking shit.

  32. This must be a joke, seriously. You're entitled to your opinion but to say Green Day are sellouts because they made an album that had huge worldwide success, is just dumb.
