There's nothing wrong with not liking something because you don't connect with it personally though . It'd be silly to say it was a bad song for that reason but to just not like it for that reason is fine, you can't help why you like or dislike something.3 points

Don't you guys get it? Malachite's a green stone. It's official: 2000LYA is not just a song about masturbation, it's also about weed.3 points

that's why I said after I've said it before but I can't really understand the hate for A Little Boy Named Train, especially the demo. The lyrics tell a good story and the harmonies and instrumentation are pretty cool.2 points

How can anyone dislike a song with a flushing toilet in it?! I listened to Kerplunk again today thanks to this discussion, and damn it's good. So many good basslines and melodies. Moar pls Green Day.2 points

It's ok, when I first heard Brutal Love I thought it was a Green Day song.2 points

y'know it sounds like they're playing after smoking two tons of weed and that's where the magic of the song comes from1 point

Something random that I've been wondering about Billie, I've wanted to wait and ask him personally if I ever got the chance again, but I'm too curious to wait that long... So my question is... Does Billie Joe still have his tonsils???1 point
-
ikr, so selfish of him to express an opinion on something green day related in a thread made for sharing opinions on something green day related!1 point

Yeah, whether you like or dislike something and whether you think it's good or bad are two different things. You don't need to justify liking or disliking something.1 point

He said he preferred 1039 songs to 2000LYA, not that the latter is a bad song.1 point

I literally don't understand how anything else could make sense, and it's a great line with the eye interpretation. Good thing Billie doesn't write for you personally, then1 point

Random thought: I just remembered the time I ate at Mike's Rudy's can't fail cafe and this guy in the booth next to us fainted. My friend wanted to help him because he probably had a heart attack, but he woke up and yelled at her. He left the diner and my friend followed him (to make sure he doesn't collapse on the street) In that moment a prostitute started hitting on him I guess that's what happens when you eat at Mr. Dirnst's Diner1 point

The problem with Strangeland is not the song itself or the lyrics. It is just a bloody bad recording. plus the lyrics of Christie Road with their escapism and vivid imagination of some hiding place strike a chord with me so there. That line "We'll always seem to find our way to Christie Road" seems to suggest that no matter what the enviroment is, the singer and his lover (or maybe only himself, the plural can also be there just because pop songs are usually about "us" even if the singer may only mean "me".) always find their way to that place, real or not. And after all whether it is a real place or not doesnt matter and the thing that matters is the state of mind. ...... It all sounds very fancy but maybe the song is only about weed "Smoked my boredom gone Slapped my brains up so high" Still, I like to think it as one of those classic escapistic songs. Dunno if that makes sense Also, the mention of mother suggests some kind of authority. LIke that the authorities are against that escape from the cruel reality (though most likely its weed again) But it can directly be about weed/boredom/ whatever but by reading between the lines you can sense it all adds up to something bigger.1 point

Jeff Matika @jeffmatika · Jul 4 Another JW episode VERY SOON!! “@frikimexi: What about The Jeff Matika Show? @jeffmatika” R.I.P. Tommy Ramone: The 9 Best Covers of Ramones Songs Green Day, “Outsider” Green Day songs are recognizable not only by Billie Joe Armstrong’s distinctive voice, but also by a certain quality to their melodies—a quality somehow presaged by this anthem for the outsiders of every punk generation. http://www.vogue.com/culture/article/remembering-tommy-ramone-1952-2014-cover-songs/#11 point

I listened to Kerplunk in full the other day. The last time I did that I was a total production snob, which I'm not anymore (believe it or not), and this time I was absolutely stunned by the overall quality of the album. It's absolutely solid. A few of my favourite songs have always been from Kerplunk (2000 Light Years Away, One For The Razorbacks, Christie Road), but seriously, there isn't a bad song on it at all. It's shot up my album ranking, anyway. No One Knows is fucking orgasmic. Oh, I'm 20 years late to the party? Sorry. *shuffles out*1 point

well that basically answers everything, I mean, it's Wikipedia Just been thinking lately about it, and I'm really disappointed that they don't play Walking Contradiction live anymore. It's a great song live, especially since they up the tempo when they play live.1 point

All the excitement of being alone on an album cover would be too much for Jason. Even being together with the band on Cuatro made his heart flutter a little too hard. In all seriousness, they probably realized he's nowhere near recognizable enough to put solely on the cover of something.1 point

Posting this here, too Billie Joe with Michael Mayer, Rebecca Naomi Jones, & John Gallagher Jr.1 point
