I listened to Kerplunk in full the other day. The last time I did that I was a total production snob, which I'm not anymore (believe it or not), and this time I was absolutely stunned by the overall quality of the album. It's absolutely solid. A few of my favourite songs have always been from Kerplunk (2000 Light Years Away, One For The Razorbacks, Christie Road), but seriously, there isn't a bad song on it at all. It's shot up my album ranking, anyway. No One Knows is fucking orgasmic. Oh, I'm 20 years late to the party? Sorry. *shuffles out*7 points

Did you turn up the silence, the heartache of your life? Sorry. Seriously though. It is quite the experience, especially when you listen to it "properly" as you describe.5 points

Anyways, She's a Rebel is a great song, and I hope it gets played live again someday maybe at an American Idiot 10th Anniversary show wink wink4 points

Brutal Love is probably the best song on the trilogy. Hopefully it stays a live staple in the future.4 points

After several months, I listened to 21st Century Breakdown in full again last night. It was a sort of mystic experience for me. I mean, I was shocked by how huge was the impact the record had to me; I just turned the lights out, closed my eyes and focused my attention on what the album tries to tell and on what Billie was thinking when he wrote the lyrics. Beside the fact that the story is amazing because of how simple and engaging it is, the real thing to me is that everyone can build his own imaginary castle on the solid basis the story gives us. I'm not going to tell you the paths my imagination went through last night, cause it would be boring and pointless, but I felt more or less like this through the album: full of anger and revolution desire from 21CB to Peacemaker/LOTAG, then sad and resigned from Murder City to 21 Guns, and then again full of hope and responsibility in American Eulogy and See The Light. I cried during Restless Heart Syndrome. No need to say that it gave me chills from the first song to the last, even though I listened to those songs hundreds of times now. I used to think American Idiot was way better, but I really don't know now. The great production which makes the songs epic, Billie's voice in certain parts and especially the choice of words he did (which is perfect, the album is without a doubt one of the best lyrically) made me think for a while about 21st Century Breakdown as their best album. I know for sure it makes your imagination have a blast like no other thing they have recorded. I'm sorry for the length, it was an experience I really wanted to share with you4 points

How can anyone dislike a song with a flushing toilet in it?! I listened to Kerplunk again today thanks to this discussion, and damn it's good. So many good basslines and melodies. Moar pls Green Day.2 points

Random thought: I just remembered the time I ate at Mike's Rudy's can't fail cafe and this guy in the booth next to us fainted. My friend wanted to help him because he probably had a heart attack, but he woke up and yelled at her. He left the diner and my friend followed him (to make sure he doesn't collapse on the street) In that moment a prostitute started hitting on him I guess that's what happens when you eat at Mr. Dirnst's Diner2 points

I'm calling you Cakey Lee Praxus from now on. Tbh that's a fucking awesome name.2 points

I just split the Sweet Children songs off on iTunes and gave 'em their own artwork, so they're separate from the album. Speaking of Kerplunk, time to drag this one out again: Christie Road is overrated. Is it really good? Of course. Is it one of their best? Hell, it's not even the best on Kerplunk by a wide margin.2 points

How anyone can dislike 2000 Light Years Away2 points
-
yes they are. see: GMT is the standard for timezones i dunno where i got this from but i always heard that christie road was about the place where billie (and co?) used to go smoke weed. so yeah, it's about escapism and boredom and coping with it by getting high at the eponymous christie road2 points

About girls probably. And those guitars are out of tune or something I swear. You are weird. Christie Road and especially 200 Light Years Away both are in my top 20. Very odd indeed.2 points

Brutal Love is so different for Green Day, yet amazing. Not in my top ten Green Day songs, but definitely in my top ten Green Day songs that don't feel like Green Day songs2 points
-
OK still people get harassased if they speak wrong language to be honest but I meant that diversity of one particular language causes no harm and the more diverse vocabulary people use the better and more colourful the language gets there has never been worse idea than the standardising of the spoken language/vocabulary ( Which luckily couldnt succeed anyway)2 points

Oh come on. Who doesn't want to pretend they're British every now and then?2 points
-
Fuck ye I see where you're coming from, but if they didn't, then all we'd have of the album are shitty vinyl rips which would be even worse quality2 points

I didn't realize (with a z) that you were at the show. I figured you were probably at a 2009 show, but I only knew for sure that you attended a 2013 show yeah, my jokes are pretty shite2 points

No I like records that are well produced, don't get me wrong. And I will listen to shit songs if the production is good. But it works both ways, in that if a song is good I won't let the production get in the way. Some of my favourite songs sound like they're being played through a biscuit tin.2 points

You're doing it wrong. I think "She holds my malachite so tight so never let go" is an incredible line for a 19 year old to write.1 point

Was reading the trash that is The Sun's "Fabulous" magazine. It included an interview with former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt which contained the interesting fact that "Kimberly's first crush was Billie Joe from Green Day"1 point

To be fair though, "Our romance is a love trance, and now we'll never part" is a far cry from "Oh baby, baby, it's fuck time."1 point

Good thing he's not the authority on everyone else's opinions then Banning vivisection and his welfare programs were pretty damn good if we're being honest. Shame about the whole Jew thing.1 point
