Warning is easily my favorite album, and I'd argue it's one of their best. I might put it on par with American Idiot. For me, it's the lyrics. There's some real poetry on that album that doesn't exist in any other Green Day album. I agree the music is disjointed, but lyrics have always mattered to me much more than music. So if you put some awesome lyrics in with some good music, I'm sold. Dookie is great for its music (lyrics are alright, but not much that makes me think "wow you actually need to analyze this a bit to understand it"), and American Idiot is a combination of the two (good music, meaningful lyrics).8 points

Hah, I didn't realize what thread I was in and thought this was a general statement not related to Green Day.5 points

It's about how people jump from one trend to the next, and they are "victims" of fashion, buying all sorts of clothes and accessories to stay with the changing styles.3 points

That's awesome. The "I don't care, if you don't care" reminds me a lot of Billie's accent more prominent in the 90s. The "I sound like an Englishman impersonating an American impersonating an Englishman."2 points

All I said in the first place was that according to GDA the Dookie videos from Instagram likely had audio from the Serbia dates and you started going on about GDT and how it's more reliable. Even if that is the case, it was never relevant to what was being discussed in the first place, and it came across as accusatory in tone.2 points

Currently, I'm relistening to Dos and I just got to Lazy Bones. I don't think I have seen anyone comment about the brilliance of the noodling bits by the bass in the verses and the guitar in the second verse. I love it so much2 points

Just like I said before, I think Green Day was at the top of their form around the Nimrod-Warning era (I'd also include AI in here). Musically it might be all over the place as Ceadog said, but I think that type of leeway allows the band to shine more than if they were forcing themselves to stick with one theme.1 point

Anyway someone could tell me how he plays the solo on Good Riddance live? Starting at about 1:56 and ending at about 2:06. Tabs or just a rough guess would be great1 point

Billie said he saw Tre wearing a t shirt that had "fashion victim" and bullet holes on it right after Gianni Versace was murdered and it caught his attention because it was such an extreme statement, and made him want to write a song called Fashion Victim. The lyrics aren't about Versace though, aside from the reference in that one phrase.1 point

I love Warning. It might not be their best album but it has some of the bands best songs on it (Blood Sex and Booze, Church on Sunday, Waiting, Macy's Day Parade among them) and I love the way Billie's voice sounds. I can see what the band was going for with that record and it's a shame that they never really took that sound any further.1 point

I'd actually put the opening of JOS up there, it's an odd one though because it sounds so much better when isolated it's unreal. And honestly, your top five list makes my top five list of your top five lists.1 point

I actually wrote RHS and then erased it b/c the runs in Church On Sunday are perfect ….. it's a very difficult list to make. I could see JOS up there for Dearly Beloved and Tales from Another broken Home but as far as lead vocal goes it doesn't quite make it up there I probably should stop saying "top: whatever" without at least thinking out a list from now on1 point

I'm pretty sure you have more than five top five vocals at this point But yeah, MDP is fantastic, and one of my funeral songs. Walking Alone is also brilliant, and generally massively overlooked. It has some great lyrics.1 point

Warning has some damn good songs. Castaway and Macy's Day Parade are top 10 GD songs for me. Church On Sunday and Minority are up there as well. Then there's the solid group of Deadbeat Holiday, BS&B, and Jackass. The rest isn't incredible for me. I only recently started liking Jackass. It's a very good album but I wouldn't say it should be considered better than AI,21CB, or Insomniac. But Macy's Day Parade and Castaway are pure magic. MDP is excellent vocally. The slow rise in key and some of the runs are just magical. Castaway has by far GD's best melody coupled with very good lyrics and a killer bass line. And I'm not a huge Nimrod fan, but Walking Alone is fucking fantastic and idk why it has taken me so long to realize it.1 point

I'm not big on Fashion Victim myself but I actually like Hold On. It's hardly classic Green Day but it's nowhere near Dos territory. Overall I think the album's consistently pretty decent, with one or two standout tracks.1 point

theres nothing cool in colours that make you vomit and vulgar unimaginative pictures screaming the word blandess on your face. Warnings cover is kinda dull too. Warning is their best. It has no downers like 21st CB or Dookie or Nimrod and i like it more since its more low-profile than AI. And it is lyrically their best too. So there.1 point

No cover art can be lamer than the Trilogys though. Warning is their best album.1 point

If you don't listen to the second half of FOD loud as fuck then you're doing it wrong anyway.1 point
-
One of the most annoying things about FOD, which is a quite enjoyable song otherwise, is that you have to change the volume when the loud part comes in. Because when you listen it on one volume, either the soft part is too soft to hear, or the loud part is so loud it hurts your ears. though come to think of it, I think that is probably one of the most popular opinions, but hey.1 point

Yes, they played the entire Dookie, right before our eyes. Love it how people don't believe it despite everything said in the thread, despite Vuk's full-length audience video and the fact that the audio from that video is to be found on this very website.1 point
