  5. Sweet 16 better than JOS? Listen, I try not to go with the mainstream, I try to be more into punk, And I definitely prefer Green Day's first 3 albums to any other. But no song in Green Day's entire catalog can top Jesus of Suburbia. You may like Sweet 16 better, but that doesn't make it a better song. Like, I admit that Green Day's first two albums have average, lame songs. But I love them. Clearly, some people don't know how to separate their opinion from their judgement Mike wrote both, only JAR was on the demos that have surfaced. Emenius Sleepus is about a different person though. That's a good question though. because it was so personal, maybe Mike just wasn't ready to put it on there yet, or maybe they just wanted to save some hits for the next album or release, cause y'know, they already had 5 on Dookie.

  6. Billie Joe on Gibson Guitars! http://www2.gibson.com/News-Lifestyle/Features/en-us/Green-Day-on-a-Gibson.aspx Ever since Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong bought his first Les Paul junior back in 2000, he's been hooked. Since then he's rarely seen on stage without one. Throughout the past decade, Billie Joe has played various Les Paul Jr's, a Les Paul Special, an SG, and his acoustic signature Gibson Billie Joe Armstrong J-180. Armstrong has even gone so far as to play old Green Day songs, that were originally recorded on other types of guitars, on his LP Jr. So let’s take a look at Billie Joe live on stage with his many Gibson guitars! Read on!

  7. How convenient that the writer separate "mind" and "fuck" so as to make it "fuck America" which is entirely different than "mindfuck America".

  11. jakevance 13 months ago Green Day - Live at Gilman St. I like this one a lot. It's is a Kerplunk-era bootleg with early live versions of Longview and When I Come Around (titled, at the time, Better Not Come Around).

  12. Yes, he was. But just the rant doesn't justify that

  13. Not that he wasn't still speeding balls at that show.

  14. Why is this even a discussion? In what way is it ok to discuss what meds he may or may not have ever been on. There will be speculations at times on other websites but I don't see why it needs to come here. It's just tacky and insensitive.

  16. I don't think there's anything sudden about it, he's always joked about that kind of thing (along with any other subject). This quaaludes thing in particular sounds like a joke if it was said because he forget Jeff's name for a moment while joking around introducing the band on stage. Who knows if the rohypnol mention was referencing anything real but it was said in an extremely light hearted context so I don't really see any point in speculating that it might've been when there's at least a good a chance that it wasn't.

  17. Wasn't he joking about rohypnol? He was probably joking about quaaludes too, like "oh I forgot his name, I must be on something!". During a light hearted interview or moment in a show I wouldn't assume it was anything more than a joke without knowing, seems an unlikely situation to make a serious confession.

  21. honestly i think gdc was much scarier/less friendly back then. people were really harsh on 'noobs' and such. the nature of this thread is obviously going to spark disagreements, and therefore debates. that doesn't have to devolve into full out arguments, and i don't think it has at all. everyone in here should remember that just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they're attacking you

  22. I get what you're saying here, but at the same time.....most of what you're talking about isn't all that "dark". As part of the youth of this era that the album and play are meant to depict, I agree that it should be taken seriously, as substance abuse and mental illness, in particular, are serious issues. But at the same time, this isn't exactly Breaking Bad territory. I daresay the people in high school now seem far more jaded than when I was a teenager (though I believe the musical depicted the characters as twenty-somethings). And we all still found ways to goof off and have fun and laugh at things. These characters come from broken homes, and they do have very adult problems to deal with, but they're still very much supposed to represent the common man/woman. That's what makes the narrative, the characters, and the lyrics so widely relatable in the first place. If you've ever seen or read the Perks of Being a Wallflower, I'd say that would be the most appropriate tone for something like this. Maybe a tad more visceral, due to the heroin usage and the sex scenes, but otherwise in the general ballpark. With some singing and dancing thrown in, of course

  25. I finally put my finger on what bothers me about the song The Forgotten. It's otherwise beautiful save for the fact that it makes zero grammatical sense to say "Where in the world's the forgotten?" If he had sung "Where in the world ARE the forgotten?" the song would be instantly improved by 100% because it would be referring to lost souls. Saying "Where IS the forgotten?" implies that "the forgotten" is a singular noun and makes it sound like he's searching for his missing copy of the book "The Forgotten" as opposed to a group of forgotten people. I have no idea what Billie means in this song because that phrase has the worst syntax ever. I also have a sad pathetic feeling that Billie WANTED to communicate what I want him to be saying, but he actually just doesn't know how the English language works. Stay in school, folks!

  27. that's not true, State of Shock really fits the album, and as it is a demo, it looks and sounds like a demo, don't forget, it's a demo, all demo sounds like a demo. cause they are DEMO!!

  31. Oh yes, I agree. I just hate how there's a dynamic on here of the "OMG HE'S RELAPSED!" people and the "HOW DARE YOU SPEAK OF IT" people. I just wish there was a happy medium, y'know? We can talk about it without everyone having a shit fit. I'd never claim to have a clue what's going on in that brain of his, nor do I care, as long as he's happy, his family's fine and the band is still together and touring on occasion.

  32. Yes, but at the same time there's nothing wrong with discussing the concepts maturely without assuming we know all the answers, because I've never claimed to.

  33. That interview was done very shortly after he finished up with rehab. Maybe afterward he felt like he could handle the occasional drink and realize his own limits. Ultimately, he's a grown man and is capable of making his own decisions. He doesn't owe it to any of us to never have another drink. He stopped the drug use he had in the 90's without any fans needing to persuade him or for anyone to feel pity for him. Drugs and alcohol affect people very differently. As Hermione said, some people decide they'll never drink again, some people can still drink without it becoming the problem it was before.
    1 point
  34. Yeah, that's not a promise to anyone though. He may well have meant it was his last drink before he got help with not drinking to excess and any time he feels like drinking to excess or for the wrong reasons he can think of that. Or not drinking at all might have been a temporary plan only to last for a certain amount of time which has passed now, or his plan might have changed. His business really, whatever works for him.

  35. yes. Waiting as a song tells how he waited for an audition. Macy Day Parade= night of the living dead= zombies= masks. Then American Idiot basically tells the story how he never became a Slipknot member though he tried and whatshername is his bitter goodbye. Trilogy on the other hand is Billie revealing his faith in God, (trilogy= holy trinity). and finally turning away from devilish masks. In Forgotten he still offers his forgiveness. "Dont look away from the arms of bad scream". Since Slipknot is both bad and they do scream.

  36. Technically only a part of it was. Billie Joe tweeted about it a few years ago. "The 1st verse of scattered was written in 1992. 2nd verse was finished in 1996. Everything comes back at some point".
