Here you go. "please tell green day and their producers that I have written a song that I think will become a major hit for them and respond to me as soon as possible!"6 points

Seriously though, how can anyone not like Stay the Night? Trilogy aside, it's a wonderful song. And when put alongside a lot of shit songs on the trilogy, it then appears even that much better. You can actually tell that there's some soul and heart in it. To me, the song doesn't seem like some desperate hook up song ("stay the night with me, pretty girl") or anything like what most songs about this topic imply. The "we're only young tonight, there's no time left, come home with me tonight" theme is so popular in music today, and I feel like Stay the Night does it so much more poetically than any of the others, and with deeper meaning. It makes me think of two people who must separate for some reason, and truthfully only have one night left together and they'll never know what could have been because of some sort of outlying circumstances. Not a one night stand type thing. You can really feel that emotion, an almost desperate sadness, in the live version from Demolicious. And that bridge breakdown. Jesus. Christ. Especially the full version on Demolicious, or the version at the end of Cuatro... it's so wonderful! It's amazing to hear what came of the song that first surfaced on YouTube in 2010 from the soundcheck. I fell in love with it the minute I first heard it, and it's one of the few songs that wasn't ruined as a finished product on the trilogy. #preach'd4 points

(I would call this off topic but it is random thoughts so save your complaining.) Recently ( as of last 3-6 days) I've been on a huge crazy for Kerplunk. Don't know why.3 points

Last night, I was riding in my dad's jeep with him, and the windows were down, the breeze felt great, the scent of charcoal filled my nose as we were driving through neighborhoods, and When I Come Around came on the radio. I thought to myself "We could get in a horrible car accident right now, I could die, and I'm perfectly okay with that". All of my senses were being positively stimulated, and I just felt great. It was awesome3 points

That drop into the coda of Brutal Love is epic. Obviously most of the song is unoriginal, but the bit they did write is fantastic. I still find that falling melody every bit as spine chilling as I did when I first heard it.2 points

I will be going next Sunday to check them out in Market Deeping. Says on their website that their gigs this summer will include a band from California. Any guesses as to who that might be?1 point

I feel bad because for a couple of weeks I didn't really listen to Green Day that often. However, I'm back listening to them right now and I feel like I appreciate them more than when I listened to them religiously everyday. Like taking a break from them kinda gave me a greater appreciation of them. Also, I have been listening to the acoustic version of "Stay The Night" fairly frequently. I just can't get over how good Billie's voice sounds in it!1 point

EXACTLY. People seem to miss a vital part of the lyric that changes the whole tone of the song into something deeper (the pre-chorus, obviously). It's just perfect, and I guess on the surface it can seem a bit shallow but when you look into it it's actually really emotional. It was absolute perfection for me when it came out because it just connected with me on so many levels. And yeah, that breakdown is easily one of the best musical sections they've ever done. It just feels so epic, Mike actually showcases some creativity with the harmonics, and the rhythm in general makes it kind of euphoric but without being cheesy.1 point

Frighteningly enough, I find myself agreeing with Tim. Stage acting is extremely exaggerated because you have to communicate to everyone, even the people in the back of the theatre, what your character is feeling; whereas on the big screen you have to go for realism and subtlety. Stephen Sondheim himself has said that it's extremely hard to do a musical properly on the big screen because "Why say with an entire song what you can communicate with a look?" If you compare the film version of practically any musical—Fiddler on the Roof, Les Mis, Sweeney Todd, etc.—to its stage version, the stage version will always be over the top in comparison because in order for the film to be successful, it has to dial the emotion back. That's also why a lot of film adaptations of musicals don't recruit the actors who originated the roles on Broadway.1 point

Yes, it is. I challenge any of the bafflingly large number of people in this thread who seem to like the song to tell me what's objectively good about it. None of the ideas in the lyrics are anything that Billie hasn't covered before, after, and more eloquently, and none of the music is anything that they haven't done before, after, and more interestingly. The only part of the song that is at all interesting is the "we want to go to heaven, but no one wants to die" bit, but that isn't enough to save what is otherwise a completely uninspired, half-assed attempt at a song. Hate on Nightlife, or Troublemaker, or Drama Queen all you want, at least those songs all try something new, even if they don't necessarily make it work. State of Shock seems like someone said to Billie, "write the most by-the-numbers, bland Green Day song you possibly can."1 point

Cool that it's on the list, shame about the crappy write-up. How is that line in Basket Case a "gay joke"? It's about the gender of the person not mattering, not a joke.1 point

http://www.guitarplayer.com/artists/1013/the-top-5-guitar-vandals-of-all-time/47808 The Top 5 Guitar Vandals of All Time #5 > Billie Joe Armstrong Just like Caleb Followill, Greenday main man Billie Joe Armstrong sort of became an accidental guitar vandal when he had his now infamous meltdown that led to the cancellation of a number of Greenday shows and a stay in rehab. Reportedly upset over having his band’s set cut short to make room for a longer set for Usher, Armstrong went on a tirade that was capped off by the singer smashing his beautiful double cutaway TV-Yellow Gibson Les Paul Junior to bits. It hurts to see such a beautiful instrument being destroyed, but we take solace in the fact that Armstrong was able to get the help he needed and has since resumed work with Greenday and taken the band around the world on a highly successful tour.1 point

8 Great LGBT-Themed Alternative Songs: Green Day, The Smiths, And More 1. Green Day - "Coming Clean" (1994) Though there appears to be a gay joke in the lyrics to Green Day's "Basketcase" ("I went to a whore, he said my life's a bore..."), there's actually some truth behind this line. Billie Joe Armstrong may never have actually visited a male prostitute, but he did struggle to come to terms with his bisexuality, something that he sings about in "Coming Clean" from Dookie. http://www.musictimes.com/articles/7031/20140627/8-great-lgbt-themed-alternative-songs-green-day-the-smiths-and-more.htm1 point

5 Underrated Follow-Ups To Classic Albums: Pink Floyd, Green Day, and more 2. Green Day - Insomniac (1995) Green Day is one of the rare examples of an indie band that actually improved after signing to a major label, though many fans cite the band's major label debut Dookie as its last (or even only) great album. However, Green Day's 1995 follow-up Insomniac is just as good, despite the fact that it's often seen as an obvious step down. Though it's a valid criticism that Green Day didn't progress musically between the two albums, Insomniac is more streamlined and concise, not to mentioned that "Stuck With Me," "Geek Stink Breath," "86," and "Walking Contradiction" being among the band's best songs. http://www.musictimes.com/articles/6654/20140608/5-underrated-follow-ups-to-classic-albums-pink-floyd-green-day-and-more.htm1 point

I thought Billie was just being Billie and was shouting gibberish, maybe something about food (I'm pretty sure I heard a 'jello' there). Speaking of Rusty James: 'foggy knives and rusty chains.' EDIT: I just remembered. G-L-O-R-I-A "The jello hard I ate." Billie's attempt at Yoda-speak, ladies and gentlemen.1 point
