  1. Someone said to Michael Mayer on twitter today that they hope he can make the AI movie and mine through all the Hollywood bull shit and MM actually responded "I'm doing my level best" so there's that.

  2. We'll see I'd like a movie to be made since I wasn't able to see the musical

  3. I just want to see it good or bad because the musical never made it here.

  4. Yes, it is. I challenge any of the bafflingly large number of people in this thread who seem to like the song to tell me what's objectively good about it. None of the ideas in the lyrics are anything that Billie hasn't covered before, after, and more eloquently, and none of the music is anything that they haven't done before, after, and more interestingly. The only part of the song that is at all interesting is the "we want to go to heaven, but no one wants to die" bit, but that isn't enough to save what is otherwise a completely uninspired, half-assed attempt at a song. Hate on Nightlife, or Troublemaker, or Drama Queen all you want, at least those songs all try something new, even if they don't necessarily make it work. State of Shock seems like someone said to Billie, "write the most by-the-numbers, bland Green Day song you possibly can."

  5. False. All the production wizardry in the world couldn't make me enjoy Troublemaker.

  6. Still easier to transition to a musical film than a non musical film though . That's all I'm saying really. If there's any film role he could play well this must be the best chance of it surely? Especially as St Jimmy doesn't actually have that much stage time, in a musical film he might not be on screen that much and might have minimal non-singing stuff to do, being kind of a demon who pops up from time to time rather than a main character. And because he's that kind of character he's going to be more over the top and one sided than most of the others wherever and however he's portrayed, so being more complex and subtle like say Johnny is going to be less of an issue. Not saying it's guaranteed to be amazing, just saying there's a good chance he could pull this role off compared to the average role. And whether he's any good or not it'll be hugely entertaining anyway

  7. Frighteningly enough, I find myself agreeing with Tim. Stage acting is extremely exaggerated because you have to communicate to everyone, even the people in the back of the theatre, what your character is feeling; whereas on the big screen you have to go for realism and subtlety. Stephen Sondheim himself has said that it's extremely hard to do a musical properly on the big screen because "Why say with an entire song what you can communicate with a look?" If you compare the film version of practically any musical—Fiddler on the Roof, Les Mis, Sweeney Todd, etc.—to its stage version, the stage version will always be over the top in comparison because in order for the film to be successful, it has to dial the emotion back. That's also why a lot of film adaptations of musicals don't recruit the actors who originated the roles on Broadway.

  8. I thought people liked the JOS video. WMUWSE was the bad one IMO. I LOVED the rough and dirty feel and tone of the JOS video. It's exactly how I would want to see an American Idiot movie. Not based off the musical

  9. Yeah, sarcasm is incredibly difficult to convey just using words...

  10. I just meant my mind tends to wander during Longview. Nothing wrong with the rest of the album.

  11. I'll admit that this has happened to me at some point. I h8 myself. I guess that shows that it's not 100 percent shit, only mostly shit.

  12. y'know I was mostly joking about that I didn't expect anyone to actually take it seriously I know it's just a parody and I did laugh at it, but i guess its hard to sound sarcastic with just words haha xDI've done it twice before but before everyone just sort of got that i was joking

  16. In short, the only good thing about State Of Shock is the line Billie didn't even write.

  17. Cool that it's on the list, shame about the crappy write-up. How is that line in Basket Case a "gay joke"? It's about the gender of the person not mattering, not a joke.

  18. I noticed that in Stop When The Red Lights Flash, "I'm not the hurting kind" sounds like "I'm not the herding kind". Now imagining a dog being asked what kind of dog it is and replying "I'm not the herding kind" when listening to that line.

  19. Literally every song on Demolicious is better than its Trilogy counterpart. I loved it so much when I first listened to it that I went out and bought the vinyl immediately. It's a real shame about State of Shock, because it's so flat and boring and stale and ugh and everything surrounding it is bursting with life and passion that they somehow managed to iron out with compression and effects on 1/2/3.

  21. Ok.....here it goes..... I found myself singing along with Troublemaker when it came up on shuffle..... I enjoyed it too. Oh the shame.

  22. Eh, i'll stop short of saying I want this to happen, but I won't be upset if a movie gets filmed and released. I might even go see it. If they're going to dig into the past like that and re-record an album (theoretically), I'd much rather see how Kerplunk! would sound with a bigger budget.
