Literally zero evidence to support this opinion, we've been over it before in here. Any "evidence" is absolute rubbish that's judgmental and contrived. The man could be an ass, he could be a saint. But to pretend we know anything is silly5 points

Uptight is one of their best songs ever, and certainly one of the best choruses. Why wouldn't they repeat it ad nauseum?3 points

For my first Green Day show back in 2005, I didn't actually get tickets until the night before. Loads of my classmates had known they were going for months, and the day before the gig they all felt so sorry for me that they played American Idiot on the steel drums in a music lesson. Unforgettable.3 points

I watched the entire Jesus of Suburbia music video for what I think is actually the first time and I actually don't think it would've been so terrible if it wasn't for the cheesy emo acting/image. I like the concept... it just wasn't executed right, especially for such an epic song. Also, never realized the girl is the same girl (in the same yellow dress) from the Whatsername video footage.3 points

I'd say let's wait to hear the next Green Day album before saying Billie lost his writing abilities... I think he wrote the trilogy as meant for fun and not all serious and for him fun and not serious is repeating words over and over... Edit not to give excuses or anything...2 points

Please read the verses for excellent lyrics . Having a repetitive catchy chorus (which in this case is even repetitive for an extra good reason) and verses with more complex/clever lyrics is a pretty standard way of making a song. Just because the song was inspired by that story is doesn't mean it's supposed to tell that story. It isn't and he's never claimed it is. It's about feeling lost and trying to work out your place in life. Also I think the version of the story you've posted (from GDA) is wrong. The bolded "[Train's]" parts have been added, Billie didn't say that, he said Pretty sure he meant the parent of Train is the person who was born a hermaphrodite, and their penis was cut off by their parents, ie Train's grandparents had Train's parent's penis cut off, as was a standard thing to do with people born hermaphrodite in the past. Then because of that when Train's parent grew up and had Train they decided not to label him as one gender or the other (as they'd had done to themselves very violently) and let him decide himself instead. That really should be changed on GDA, it's incorrect. A parent couldn't just decide to cut off their baby's penis because they felt like it for goodness sake. Proper quote in full:2 points

OK, so here's some other examples of shitty repetitive choruses: Let Yourself Go, Troublemaker, Stop When the Red Lights Flash, 99 Revolutions, Walk Away... Or are they all being "ironic?" Doesn't mean I don't like some of the songs, but you can't argue their choruses aren't exactly inspiring.2 points

I remember reading about the backstory of A Little Boy Named Train and thinking the song was gonna be really interesting, and then being utterly disappointed when I heard the song.2 points

Great find! (Tried to get it w/o watermarks but no luck. *cries*) It's by photographer Scott McDermott of "Billy Joe Armstrong" according to his site. Here it is in a larger size, as well as another photo:2 points

I went through all the lyrics and made a list of songs with repeating choruses. That's how much I love you guys Why Do You Want Him Don't Leave Me Sweet Children Best Thing in Town All By Myself 86 Westbound Sign (The best Green Day song ever) Platypus (I Hate You) Haushinka Take Back Warning Money Money 2020 Are We the Waiting Favorite Son Governator Christian's Inferno American Eulogy Hearts Collide Let Yourself Go Kill the DJ Troublemaker Oh Love See You Tonight Stop When the Red Lights Flash Makeout Party Missing You Walk Away 99 Revolutions Know your enemy doesn't have repeat in the chorus, just the verses, so I didn't include it, same with I Want to Be Alone and some others. and yeah, dat trilogy1 point

You know you don't HAVE to use GDC if it's such a negative experience, right? Not being easily influenced by other people's opinions also helps.1 point

I was referring more to that chorus being repeated ad infinitum toward the end of the song.1 point

My point was though, that while irony was one way of approaching achieving that message, I think it's also a lazy way. Billie used to use great intelligence and wit to convey irony/satire/whatever you wanna call it, and the fact that Kill the DJ has such great verses makes the chorus even more of a let down. Like, if he could write great stuff for the verses, why not for the chorus too? Billie's writing just got too simple and lazy on the Trilogy. Alyssa pointed out earlier the amount of songs whose choruses consist of the same repeated line, and I just don't understand what's happened to Billie's writing.1 point

I disagree. The lyrics in 21CB are more complex, but they seem distant and lack emotion. AI had simpler lyrics but very relatable and powerful metaphors.1 point

Expanded like less annoying songs? They totally had potential to make awesome music that Green Day couldn't (Roshambo, Transistors Gone Wild, Supermodel Robots) but most of the album is wasted on ridiculous songs...it just makes me angry cause I feel like that album could've been much more. Oh and I never had anywhere to post it but I think the Network is related to the music of the Horror movie they wanted to make. It was about technology going crazy and all that stuff and the Network does have similar themes.1 point
