  1. Yeah, this is daft. 1. Billie has never claimed sole credit for the vast, vast majority of the band's songs. The three of them all get credit for the music, and Billie takes credit for 99% of the lyrics because he's the one who writes them. It makes absolutely no sense to like Green Day songs but object to their writing process, because if it had been different the songs wouldn't have been the same. Being the principle songwriter of a band generally means you get the most credit. But no one has ever claimed Mike and Tre don't make significant contributions to the music. To suggest otherwise is pure conjecture and most likely completely wrong. 2. Billie is the frontman. That means he takes charge on stage. It's only natural that the lead singer in any band gets the most attention live, and it's even less surprising when you take into account his incredible stage presence. But that doesn't mean he's taking attention away from Mike and Tre. When I saw them on the American Idiot tour he introduced the whole band including the Jasons and Ronnie Blake SEVEN times. Go figure. 3. I don't think he's a douche. Sure he's undeniably pretentious in some ways and has been a real dick under the influence of dodgy substances, but in reality we know absolutely nothing about what he's like as a person. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. Good thing they don't perform purely for the entertainment of people watching shitty quality videos on YouTube, then. They've never done that. You can't make someone have a different voice. If any harmonies sound like him that's because they are by him. But pre-Trilogy Mike did more backing vocals than anyone. The suggestion that they're doctoring vocals so they all sound like Billie is one of the weirdest things I've ever read on here.

  2. I doubt his ego would ever allow this. I mean even Mike's backing vocals are mixed to the point it just sounds like Billie harmonizing with himself.

  5. Maybe they just can't fit an album's worth of songs and 35 minutes of hey-ohs onto a standard CD.

  6. He didn't sell it, he gave it to a lucky fan as a prize for writing an outstanding haiku. So it's OK

  7. Heres something that's going to rustle some Jimmies but its my honest opinion. Billie Joe as been a self centered ass who thinks the band is all about him ever since the end of the AI tour. The fame went to his head. (The height of this was during the 21CB Tour, he's gotten a bit better lately.)

  8. wait... why do we all hate governator so much

  9. I'm sorry, but I live in a world where Governator doesn't exist. Let me change what I just said: a complete album by themselves. Billie Joe Armstrong? Who's that?

  12. That interview was done very shortly after he finished up with rehab. Maybe afterward he felt like he could handle the occasional drink and realize his own limits. Ultimately, he's a grown man and is capable of making his own decisions. He doesn't owe it to any of us to never have another drink. He stopped the drug use he had in the 90's without any fans needing to persuade him or for anyone to feel pity for him. Drugs and alcohol affect people very differently. As Hermione said, some people decide they'll never drink again, some people can still drink without it becoming the problem it was before.

  15. We've closed the old Random Green Day News thread and here's a shiny new one. This time, please only use this thread to post the most teeny tiny, insignificant, truly "random" news, stuff that wouldn't get more than a couple of posts in response. Unless it fits that description, always make a thread for it! There's always room for new threads and we'd like to see lots of them being made so that more people hear about new articles, interviews, cool things etc and there's more space to discuss them. To recap, if in doubt don't post here, make a thread. Thank you Also please note: When posting an article don't just post a link with no description of what it is. Make sure to always include a few words to describe what the article is about and why Green Day is mentioned in it. Last but not least credit to @crock6000 for inventing and creating the original Random Green Day News thread

  17. Yeah that's basically my attitude. I'm glad he realized how bad the situation was by going through rehab the best anyone can hope for is that he's healthy and better knowing of those limits.

  18. Thats normal. Many actors and comedians etc are actually shy persons. It is normal to put on a mask when performing. And nobody is saint anyway. It is so wrong when celebrities are idealized as saints or whatever. They are people like us

  19. OK, maybe I should have specified. I never said attention-seeker, but douchey jackass. It's different. I guess what I'm saying is I wouldn't be surprised if I met him in real life and my dreams were shattered because he turned out to be an uber-jerk. I don't live in this alternate fangirl reality where I think everything about him is saintly. He's just hot. But that's it... I don't really think he does. Sometimes he comes off as super awkward and quiet, and then he just puts on the "frontman" yelling voice and persona during shows and interviews and such. So who knows, I guess.

  20. No it isn't. It is safe to say that they're lifelong friends as well as just bandmates though, best friends in the case of Mike and Billie, which is pretty rare. I doubt he's some kind of dictator over them! And as mentioned they all get equal credit for writing the music even though Billie could probably be credited for writing all of it on some songs (and therefore get all the royalties) if he wanted, which I think says a lot. If I hear evidence that his personality is like that other than the way their music sounds or his stage persona then I might believe it but otherwise I don't think there's any reason to assume it. Yeah exactly. They all have different roles in the band, pretty sure if they weren't happy with it they wouldn't still be playing together and good friends after so many years. But I disagree there . To me the fact that they don't take themselves too seriously to have fun doing tongue in cheek stuff like that is integral to the band and their shows. Plus it just makes it really fun and entertaining to be in the crowd watching them be silly and getting to join in with the show.

  22. After listening to it for a while, I think I can safely say I think Demolicious is the best thing they've released since American Idiot... If they took State of Shock, Ashley and Oh Love off of it and substituted X-Kid, Lazy Bones and Amanda it'd be damn near perfect for me... maybe switch Stop When the Red Lights Flash and Fuck Time for Little Boy Named Train and Makeout Party, too. I'd like to hear both with the new guitars. But yeah, condense the trilogy down to those songs and basically you realize how much the rest is basically garbage. Especially with that shitty mixing.

  25. Well an F natural overall would make it D major. But the fact that it only appears in those 2 notes every other bar is weird. So yeah, you're probably right. It's probably just an abnormal chord progression.

  26. What photos of him with a drink? Besides the PBR he sprayed at FBHT, I haven't seen anything. Just curious.

  27. Demoliscious is probally the closet Green Day will ever have to a live in studio album... Billie's been talking a live album for the last 10 years now and every album seems he backs out on it the trilogy was set up to sound like it was live

  28. Yeah, that's not a promise to anyone though. He may well have meant it was his last drink before he got help with not drinking to excess and any time he feels like drinking to excess or for the wrong reasons he can think of that. Or not drinking at all might have been a temporary plan only to last for a certain amount of time which has passed now, or his plan might have changed. His business really, whatever works for him.

  29. Just sounds like an attention seeker talking shit tbh. Acting crazy on stage as the Rev doesn't mean he was drunk, he quite clearly wasn't from everything we've heard from people who went to the show as well as from seeing videos. And as far as if he has the an occasional drink that's no one's concern anyway, sorting out a problem with drinking too much doesn't always mean never touching any amount of alcohol ever again.

  34. From NME. 33 Lesser-Known Classic Albums From Bands You Love 2 of 33: Green Day - Nimrod. 'Dookie' is, of course, Green Day's 'Nevermind'. The band's 1994 breakout was an enormous success and took away attention from the following records 'Insomniac' and the experimental 'Nimrod'. Release a top-class record and whatever comes next is always going to be judged against even more harshly.

  37. Throwback Thursday: The First CDs We Bought Green Day will forever hold a steadfast place in my heart, as their critically acclaimed seventh studio album, American Idiot, was the first CD I ever declared as my own. After some hefty amounts of incessant coaxing toward my mother, I found myself indubitably adrift within the vast expanse of the records’ soaring, yet angst-laden vocal patterns and radio-ready punk-rock infused instrumentals. American Idiot had me enthralled; it had me consumed; it had me in love. I’ll never forget the way “Are We The Waiting” and “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” tugged at my preteen heartstrings, or how Tré Cool’s fills in the title track first inspired me to get behind a drum kit. While some may be hesitant or embarrassed to admit American Idiot helped kickstart their journey into music, it’s something I will never deny. —Tyler Sharp http://www.altpress.com/features/entry/throwback_thursday_the_first_cds_we_bought

  38. Green day mentioned here: http://www.punknews.org/article/55009/interviews-stacey-dee-bad-copbad-cop Bottled Off: 10 Bands Who Suffered Worse Fate Than Macaulay Culkin's Pizza Underground After several days of rainfall, the 1994 Woodstock site was a veritable swamp, leading to the festival being nicknamed ‘Mudstock 94’. Conducted live on television, Green Day’s set ended in a full-on mud fight between Billie Joe Armstrong and the crowd, who were already caked in mud before the punk band’s set commenced. The show ended in a near riot, as Billie Joe pulled his pants down onstage and directed a slew of obscenities at the mud-covered human diaspora. Bassist Mike Dirnt was mistook for a psychotic fan by a security guard, and would leave the festival minus two front teeth. Meanwhile, the band’s equipment was peppered with dirt yet the calamitous event only boosted Green Day’s profile, driving their album Dookie up the charts and instilling the band as masters of infamy. http://www.contactmusic.com/in-depth/bottled-off-ten-bands-who-suffered-worse-fate-at-the-hands-of-the-audience-than-macaulay-culkin-s-pizza-underground_4227346 Green Day also mentioned here: http://noisey.vice.com/blog/we-talked-to-the-guy-who-wears-a-new-bands-shirt

  40. Throwback Thursday: The First Music Videos We Ever Saw I can confidently say that Green Day were the vessel for my first music-meets-video experience, with their explosive 2004 single, “American Idiot.” My 10-year old self was enthralled by frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s seemingly imperturbable punk-rock persona and rebellious overtone—not to mention his physical appearance in the video influenced my apparel choices for many years following. Nevertheless, it was watching the band in this video (and the scenes of them rocking out in that weird green substance—seriously though, what is that stuff?) that aided in kickstarting my travels in music, the same one I’m on today. —Tyler Sharp http://www.altpress.com/features/entry/throwback_thursday_the_first_music_videos_we_ever_saw
