  1. Something in the water today? Hell naw Panic Song ain't expendable. Some of the best lyrics they've ever produced. She deserves better than to be put beneath Sassafras "We get it Billie you like to waste time" Roots

  2. Why is Panic Song expendable? It's unique amongst the Green Day back catalogue, features some of their best lyrics, and the release of tension when the verse finally comes in is explosive.

  5. "Flat" is a good word. While I do enjoy Dookie, it will never be a "favorite" album of mine for myriad reasons, and this is one of them.

  6. To be fair I actually quite like the buried vocal sound, especially when the backing vocals are louder than the lead so we get to hear more of Mike. The chorus of Having A Blast sounds more like Mike taking the lead than backing, and it's awesome.

  7. I'd go so far as to say that Sassafras Roots is the second best song on Dookie, behind When I Come Around. Yeah, I went there. Also, ever since I heard "Whoa, Christian's infertile" I can never listen to that song the same again.

  10. Thanks! I think it's just that his hand movement looks strange/tapping like.

  13. I... I like it... Most-hated? I dunno, I'd say Extraordinary Girl might be the most-hated. But it's probably second place, you're right. But personally, I think She's a Rebel is great! It's so poppy and catchy, and like you said, it's a real pick-me-up in the album and depicts Whatsername's character well! It's always been one of my favorite songs. It's simple and accomplishes what it needs to in the narrative of the album. There are definitely many hints of Warning-esque things in the trilogy songs. There's a big parallel. Not sure why they really regressed to that sort of sound again because it wasn't exactly popular before... but then again, they were convinced it was a "new sound," apparently. Uh, EXCUSE ME? I knew you'd come to rescue this thread. Everyone else is dumb.

  18. That's what makes AI so special, even its weakest songs serve a purpose for the narrative. Not only does AI have fantastic individual songs it has a strong and coherent theme/story which makes it an even more fantastic album.

  19. Not exactly a Green Day reference per se, but today (May 4th) is Greenery Day here in Japan. Which coincidentally is also Mike Dirnt's birthday. ...Yeah, there's only a very vague connection.

  20. I know She's a Rebel is probably the most-hated song on American Idiot, but I like it and it fits the story. If you think about it, it's the only happy moment throughout the whole story. Jesus/St. Jimmy is happy for a brief time, while he and Whatshername first get together. In the the next song, he feels like dying, she is sick of crying - things start going bad. So I think, while it's not the greatest song in world, it serves the story well, and gives the characters at least a bit of hope in the midst of pain and heartbreak. On an interesting note, the song is also sort of about the statue of liberty.

  22. I can't choose an all time favorite album, but Insomniac has to be one of the best. To be honest its one of the deepest darkest albums green day made, and the anger in it, the frustration and the punk sound to it was much more than to Dookie. And you got that right, Brain Stew is in fact one of the weaker tracks. Might i ask, in your opinion what do you think are the stronger tracks in the album? Amen. You are one epic person my dear friend. Horseshoes and Handgrenades is by far one of the most energetic songs Green Day has ever written! The anger to it is fucking amazing! I go damn nuts when i listen to it.

  23. It's my favourite overall, I mean I guess I can see why it might not be to everyone's taste, but you're right in that it's vastly underrated. It just surprises me that Brain Stew seems to be the most popular song on their when it's one of the weaker tracks on the album. A song featuring a female rapper? Oh.

  25. Whoa, Christian's inferno Whoa, Christian's inferno Whoa, Christian's inferno Whoa, Christian's inferno It really adds to the message and emotion of the song in such a creative manner, doesn't it? I sat through another hour of that album and I never found out why Christian was inferno.
