  1. I can't choose an all time favorite album, but Insomniac has to be one of the best. To be honest its one of the deepest darkest albums green day made, and the anger in it, the frustration and the punk sound to it was much more than to Dookie. And you got that right, Brain Stew is in fact one of the weaker tracks. Might i ask, in your opinion what do you think are the stronger tracks in the album? Amen. You are one epic person my dear friend. Horseshoes and Handgrenades is by far one of the most energetic songs Green Day has ever written! The anger to it is fucking amazing! I go damn nuts when i listen to it.

  2. I imagine that the people who don't like it have a thought process something like this. "I don't like Caaaaastawaaaaay, going at it alone, I don't like Caaaaastawaaaaay, now I'm on my own. I don't like...oh, wait."

  3. It's my favourite overall, I mean I guess I can see why it might not be to everyone's taste, but you're right in that it's vastly underrated. It just surprises me that Brain Stew seems to be the most popular song on their when it's one of the weaker tracks on the album. A song featuring a female rapper? Oh.

  5. It's funny you say that actually, in one of the earliest interviews when the album came out they were asked which of the songs they enjoyed playing the most and Tre said H&H, and Billie looked at him and was like "really?". So you might be on to something He was really enthusiastic about East Jesus Nowhere in interviews when the album came out as well, it was the number one thing they got asked about and Tre was saying he couldn't wait until it was out as a single so it could make an impact and stuff. Shame the AI musical's success happened right before it was going to be a single so they swept it under the rug in a rushed double release with 21st CB and no proper video and then only promoted the musical and 21st CB songs that were in the musical from then on so there was never a chance for that to happen . Still annoys me lol, could've been so great if they'd released it earlier with a good video.

  8. You got me backwards. I have high respect for 86. And for that matter, Insomniac as a whole.

  9. Me too! It's utterly fabulous and on a par with the rest of their stuff musically and lyrically.

  14. Well, I don't like Horseshoes and Handgrenades, and Breakdown is one of my favourite albums. It just seems to be kind of overproduced for the style. And it's just Main Offender, which I never liked in the first place.

  15. Only in this thread! I've never seen a bad word against it on GDC other than a few crazy people saying they don't like it in here. Definitely one of the most well loved songs during the 21st CB era, everyone talked about how badass it was and wondered why they didn't play it live.

  16. Rest is great, I don't know why so many hate. I'm sure if GD play today, everyone would be praise that song. It is a better anthem stadium rock song than Oh Love to my taste. 86 is the song that resumes Green Day's stance about life. It could be a little bit poor in lyrics, but when you know all the story, the song gets an awesome twist. I find Sex, Drugs and Violence pretty interesting. I think that it represents a BJ's though about getting back in school and finish his last few year or years, but as a millionaire right now, is senseless. I lost the rest of my head and my ideas. Don't care 'bout it.

  17. I actually prefer Stop drop and roll to a few Green Day albums

  18. Nimrod isn't their best album but definitely has some of their best songs on it. Redundant, Scattered, The Grouch, Prosthetic Head and Uptight are all essential listening. The production is near-perfect too, probably only topped by Breakdown.

  21. It is a dream of mine to see Green Day play the following songs live at some point in the future: Dry Ice Jackass Private Ale At The Library Hearts Collide Stuart and the Ave 409 in Your Coffee Maker It's been pleasing to see the guys drop in some old school tunes into set-lists in recent years, but I still think they rely too heavily on Dookie and AI (I know, I know - most people know the songs etc, I get that - just speaking as a long-term fan :-p)

  22. Billie and Norah's "Kentucky" is being used in commercials for the Kentucky Derby this weekend. I saw a short ad during the Tonight Show.

  23. "Christian's Inferno" is more punk than anything on the Trillogy. As for energetic songs...title track, KYE (for all its faults), Murder City, Horseshoes and Handgrenades, The Static Age, American Eulogy... And the sadass ones are some of the most awesome ones!

  24. The 1st one with Tim Armstrong is taken somewhere in 2007. because that's time they were planning to play together. Somewhere in party, I guess. 2nd one also taken somewhere in the party, not sure where, what, when or why. The biggest I could find.

  26. Note: With the exception of some of the songs on Dookie these are all Green Day songs that they have either never played live or I have never seen them personally play live and would like to. Hence no AI, BOBD, Holiday, Minority, Good Riddance, etc. 1. Little Boy Named Train 2. Rusty James 3. ?Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl) 4. Misery 5. Uptight 6. Hold On 7. Brat 8. Green Day 9. 80 10. 30. I cringe everytime I read the Norwegian death metal "joke", it wasn't creative the first time anyone copied Billie's joke about their future and it's not now either (sort of saw it twice yesterday). So I wish Billie hadn't done it.

  31. I like Mike's voice better than Billie's. I also like John's drumming better than Tré's, in a way. I just feel that Tré's style is more suited for poppier songs and John's is better for harder ones. I can only dream of what Insomniac would have been had Mr. Sobrante percussed...

  32. The end of an era. Great new thread title, though--nice one, Tom. Unpopular opinion: Warning probably had the weakest single choices of their career pre-Trilogy. "Minority" is great, but the title track is too repetitious to be ideal; "Waiting", while great, is one of the album's weaker tracks; and "Macy's Day Parade" is a little too much of a downer to be a radio hit. "Castaway" and "Church on Sunday" would've been ideal.

  33. I didn't like the amount of times Billie used the word fuck on Uno or Dos, rather I think the amount of fucks he gave on Tre was just right.
