Since I'm kinda getting tired of all the opinions on the Trilogy, I'm gonna post a different opinion. Now I don't know if this is really unpopular or not, but I believe Nimrod is one of the absolute best albums Green Day has ever made. It is up there with American Idiot in my book. I have such an emotional connection with about 5/6 of the songs on there (and then of course there are songs like King For a Day, which is just fun).4 points

If I asked you again would you tell me the same?3 points

In addition to it being on the Rock Against Bush Vol. 2 CD, it is also on the Japanese versions of American Idiot as track 14 and on the 21 Guns CD and vinyl singles as the b-sideAnyways, as it's not often people on here get to hear a "new" Green Day song, I hope you enjoy it!3 points

Not sure exactly how to word this but my favorite songs are the ones where Billie writes about his marriage/relationships in an apologetic type of way like Worry Rock, Church on Sunday, Scattered, Redundant and such. I really relate to him best when he's in that mode and just wants to make things right for his past mistakes.2 points

I don't know what to tell you besides I just disagree with you. I feel like the trilogy is 37 classic GD tunes, I connect to the lyrics, and I feel that Mike's signature basslines are more present here than the three previous albums. The harmonies are different, and while I prefer Mike's harmonies, I think Billie does a fine job with them. I have no major issues with the production, at times it could be better but it doesn't detract from the music, and on certain songs I think the production and clean guitar tone really work.1 point

How. How is something that is soooo far from anything Green Day's ever been "pure Green Day"? I swear I'll be posting this til I die but the trilogy lacked everything that made their previous work standout. Mike-Billie Harmonies Basslines Billie's iconic sneer A coherent theme/message Lyrics that could easily form a connection with a majority of listeners. Top notch production (Referring more to their latter work here) Maybe, instead of having some of my favorite lyrics in my signature, I should just put really bad ones from the trilogy to make a point.1 point

and I respect the right for you to tell me my opinion is wrong So happy to see other trilogy lovers here! Its kinda rare lol1 point

LOL Seriously, if I put every song in the trilogy in order, in a playlist, I could listen to that bastard the whole way though and have a blast just singing along to every song. Demolicious makes some of the songs even better!1 point

Well he'd never done growling on record before, so that fulfils the diversification aspect. Whether it's actually any good or not is another matter.1 point

Ahh Nimrod . My joint favourite along with the trilogy and 21st CB (I'm greedy). It's perfection, including (here comes the unpopular opinion part ) Last Ride In and Take Back. Even though the songs are really varied I think they still succeeded in making it cohesive, it's very subtle but there's a retro/surfy feeling running through it which is cemented particularly well by the interlude of the really retro/surfy Last Ride In in the middle and makes the whole thing flow together despite it's twists and turns. And the absolute beauty of it is it's variety, of which Take Back is one of the most extreme examples. Can't fault the album.1 point

Yes! I like it too. I've no idea why. Call it a guilty secret. Love Nimrod. 3rd Favourite album for me behind AI and Dookie. Brilliant album.1 point

Nimrod. is definitely the album of theirs that I'd take to a desert island with me. And it's definitely their best album to just listen to on the radio while driving around on a summer day. So much fun. I still say it's their best-produced, actually. The vocal filters on 21CB are nowhere near as bad as they are on the Trilogy, but they still are distracting, and the compression can be annoying. Plus the bass gets buried in the mix. On Nimrod., all of the instruments are perfectly balanced—the bass doesn't dominate but is still quite audible, and Tre's drums sound magnificent—especially on "Hitchin' a Ride" after the "1, 2, 1-2-3-4" in each verse, the kick is incredible. It's less flat than both Dookie and Insomniac without becoming overcompressed. The only song on the album that I don't like the production of is "Nice Guys Finish Last"; it still feels a little flat for whatever reason.1 point

Because it actually does He can write songs based on experiences or thoughts he's had any time in his life, not just now. On American Idiot he wrote about being a teenager coming of age and past experiences with girlfriends as well, the inspiration for a song doesn't always have to come from the here and now. He's mentioned in an interview that a lot of the stuff on Uno Dos and Tre is just his thoughts/fantasy (as well as stuff inspired by other times and people in his life). I see it as kind of like a "what if", what if he gave into the temptations of drugs, sex etc, the rock and roll lifestyle, what would the good and bad consequences of that be. But I mean a song like Stay The Night wouldn't even have to be a fantasy thing, it could be based on early times with his wife for all we know! He's always dipped into the past and his imagination when writing songs, they're not just 100% factual documentations of his current life.1 point

Same. I think it's one of their best, but I can't form any sort of attachment to it.1 point

I really admit the Demo version is really growing on me. The first time I heard that I thought the fancy guitar was a little unnecessary, but on second thought, maybe the version on Uno was too stripped-down. Oh, and about State of Shock again: I think that song really proves that Billie tends to be better singing about himself and his personal problems or opinions. I don't know, "I'm going into a state of shock" or "I'm too tired to be bored, I'm too bored to be tired" just strikes me as being more (I don't know the right word to use here) 'authentic' than "Wanna be your troublemaker" or "Someone kill the DJ."1 point

Come to think of it, Billy Joel in that picture looks like a cross between Billie and Jason. Again, not exactly a meme per se, but I found this real funny. This picture is not altered in any way. Now this picture on the other hand, is altered.1 point

The only way it could possibly work would be to do a The Wall type thing—no dialogue, no singing. Just play the album front to back with quality actors doing their best to channel emotion without saying anything. And look how well that worked for the "Jesus of Suburbia" video.1 point
