Seems to be an unpopular opinion in this thread but I find stating your opinion on an album as if it's a fact and talking down to those who disagree about it as if your taste in albums is objectively superior so they have to justify their inferior taste to be quite arrogant and unnecessary. And yeah, Green Day isn't famous and unpopular bands sell out 70,000 seat stadiums When I first heard their early stuff it was kind of like that for me because I'd never listened to rough sounding recordings like that of any band. So it was quite a shock having been used to top quality recordings from them and I had to get used to that sound so that I could actually appreciate the songs instead of just noticing the rough finish of them. Doesn't take long though and worth doing!6 points

Billie and Norah's "Kentucky" is being used in commercials for the Kentucky Derby this weekend. I saw a short ad during the Tonight Show.5 points

I don't see how an album containing 21st Century Breakdown, Know Your Enemy, East Jesus Nowhere, Viva La Gloria, Christian's Inferno, East Jesus Nowhere, Peacemaker, Last Of The American Girls, Murder City, Little Girl, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, The Static Age, American Eulogy or See The Light can be considered slow moving. It only has four slow songs out of 18 on it, and one of them (Restless Heart Syndrome) is one of the best things they've ever done. If you want a punk album, Green Day aren't exactly the right place to start. I don't think they're trying to sound like anything in particular, and I don't understand the logic of disliking music because of what it isn't trying to be.3 points

You have the entirety of NimrodJimrod's back catalogue to work with and you couldn't use your imagination just once?2 points

Yeah, "not famous" was the wrong phrase for me to use; "not relevant" would've been better.2 points

It's an outrageous claim to say that Green Day isn't famous. They might not be popular now, but Green Day has already built a huge reputation and fame. Everyone knows who Green Day is.2 points

I don't think it's simple enough to just say he "wrote it about his father." I'm pretty sure he knew what he was doing, placing a song about September on an album that would be described as anti-war that was released in 2004, just shortly after 9/11. It would be interpreted as being about 9/11, as well as any other bad things that happened in September, despite what it's original inspiration was.2 points

If your using punk as an excuse then the only GD album you like is Insomniac then2 points

21Cb is better than the trilogy by far. I mean Billie's vocals and the harmonies are enough to put it miles ahead of the trilogy.2 points

expand their music to keep on keepin on! 1. The Trilogy was a reduction, not an expansion. Their still doing well as a band 2. HA! The Trilogy tanked, as you're well aware. unless your as successful as them i would say dont judge them! 3. I absolutely loathe that argument. I can't cook, but I know a shitty burger if I eat it. a famous band 4. They're not really famous at this point, hate to break it to you. you all love green day so stop hatin on em so much 5. We love them, but it's not a blind love. We're allowed to dislike stuff they put out rather than slavishly devoting ourselves to everything Billie vomits out, and quite honestly that makes us more discerning and better fans. Also, that spelling made my eyes bleed.2 points

You're welcome! TBH, I hadn't even known about that event. You're welcome! Unfortunately, I can't get that pic you requested w/o watermarks. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.1 point

Yep. Karl Marx was a massive Green Day fan. But yeah, to say they're not famous anymore is ridiculous, but I suspect troll mode was fully engaged.1 point

1. The point of this thread is to spark arugment/debate...no? 2. Why is more punk inherently better? 3. GD is one of the biggest bands in the world but punk ain't what got em there. 4. Don't ever call the trilogy punk. Ever.1 point

It's one thing to like an album over another album but to say it's cause it's not punk enough is just I can't think of a nicer way so I'll just say dumb1 point
