  2. I think 99 Revolutions is the worst song on the trilogy (possibly unpopular), but I agree that it's amazing on Demolicious (definitely not unpopular). Blew my mind to hear it sounding so awesome. I don't think most of the other songs are better though, just cool in a different way. Which I suppose is the point of hearing demo versions. My thoughts exactly! It's like he's singing the song to himself rather than with an audience in mind so it sounds so personal. It's wonderful.

  4. I won't go that far, but I will say that that sound is far more interesting then the one found on the trilogy. Even if you'll never be able to fix the lyrics on these songs, it is sort of comforting to know that their songs have the ability to be at least partially redeemed with a simple switch in production values.

  5. Billie uses a Boss Blues Driver and a Boss EQ pedal, both of which are dealt with off-stage by the guitar tech. There's also a channel switcher between the Dookie modded Marshall head and a clean head. Jason has an MXR Phase 90 for BOBD, as well as a Gibson ES335 he has with an acoustic pickup, which runs through a Fishman acoustic pre-amp which is rack-mounted off-stage. He uses the acoustic simulator for BOBD, King For A Day, Jesus Of Suburbia and Minority. There's also a rack-mounted Chandler Little Devil Compressor which is just used for boosting during solos. Jason does have a few pedals on-stage, not sure what though beyond the wah. For anyone who's really into this kind of stuff, I'd really, really recommend setting half an hour aside and watching this. I found it absolutely fascinating. To get this back on track, because none of this has anything to do with Unpopular Opinions: The demo version of 99 Revolutions is one of the best things they've ever done.

  6. Well then. Oddly, the bits of American Idiot where the guitar plays on its own actually have more gain than the rest of the song. That's how they get the crunchy "radio" sound, then during the rest of the song the guitars are relatively clean. Quite an anomaly really, although the same goes for Holiday.

  7. You're all overlooking the fact that Billie doesn't operate his own pedals, his guitar tech deals with them off-stage.

  8. Actually I meant the very beginning of the intro, when there's only the guitar playing, it's clean

  11. The guy who is currently playing Johnny did an interview recently and mentioned the show would be open for licensing to anyone who wanted to do it. So it's not put on by AI, just licensed by them.
